If you think the recession has hit hard where you live, consider the little Northern Illinois town where almost half the working age adults are out of work. It's called Pembroke. CBS2's Mike Parker reports.

Imagine a community so deep in the hole, the government has fired the police force and closed two of three elementary schools. It's happened in Pembroke, a little town of some 3,000 in eastern Kankakee County near the Indiana border.

It's a town where these days, many folks don't rebuild after a fire. The charred remains just sit there.

Payton says the unemployment rate is 46 percent and the median income is just half the statewide figure. Payton says his goal right now is to create jobs in a place where businesses don't seem to want to come, and the young people mostly want to leave.

1. The ability of insurers to destroy people's lives over pre-existing condition clauses, recissions, and lifetime caps on their coverage will end.

2. Everyone will finally be covered, with subsidies for low and middle income people. That is a very big deal, something that a lot of us have been fighting for our entire lives.

3. The "doughnut hole" screwing over senior citizens on their prescription coverage will be fixed.

5. Creating the insurance exchange will provide lower prices and more choices for many people.

6. It does provide immediate help for the un-insured, even before the public option and insurance exchanges are in place.

7. It extends coverage for young people wanting to stay under their parents' coverage up to 27 years old.

12. Makes it easier for early retirees (55-64 years old) to get health care coverage.

DIY walnut treasure chest

Walnut Treasure Chest

You will need:

a walnut
3/8" - 1/2" brass fittings (from the miniature dept of a craft or hobby store)
small drill
small estucheon pins
epoxy glue
small pieces of velour

Clean and smooth the inside of a perfectly split walnut. Holding the 2 halves securely together, use a small rasp or grinder to somewhat smooth and flatten a small patch on both "long" sides of the shell. this will help you to position the hinge and latch.

Hold the hinge in position against the shell and mark the holes. Drill a tiny hole at each mark. Reposition the hinge, lining up the fastening holes and secure with a little epoxy glue - be very careful not to get glue into the hinge itself.

Repeat the process for the latch on the other side.

Tap a small estucheon pin through the holes and bend over the excess on the inside of the box and secure with a dab of epoxy glue.

Cut two pieces of velour in a circle, a bit larger than the rim of the nutshell.

Secure them into the walnut halves with a little glue

This card is pretty easy to make: the initial triangle starts out as a 4x6 piece of cs and I cut it from the center at the top to each corner at the bottom making a triangle, then I lay it on my base cs and draw the center triangle and then lay the pattern piece beside the triangle I just dre, trace it and do this on both sides of the center triangle. From there you decorate as you choose. Don't forget to score between the three triangles on the base. You can punch a hole in each end piece and tie a ribbon through the two punches to make it stand. U.N. inspectors found "nothing to be worried about" in a first look at a previously secret uranium enrichment site in Iran last month, the International Atomic Energy chief said in remarks published Thursday.

Mohamed ElBaradei also told the New York Times that he was examining possible compromises to unblock a draft nuclear cooperation deal between Iran and three major powers that has foundered over Iranian objections.

The nuclear site, which Iran revealed in September three years after diplomats said Western spies first detected it, added to Western fears of covert Iranian efforts to develop atom bombs. Iran says it is enriching uranium only for electricity.

"It's a hole in a mountain," he said.
