Contemporary studies show that, out of a list of eight reasons for having sex, having a baby is the least frequent motivator for most people (Hill, 1997). This seems to have been true for all people at all times. Ever since the dawn of history, women and men have wanted to be able to decide when and whether to have a child. Contraceptives have been used in one form or another for thousands of years throughout human history and even prehistory.

Many of the earliest methods of family planning were based on sexual behavior and are still used by millions of women and men around the world.

Continuous Abstinence

Outercourse

Withdrawal

Fertility Awareness-Based Methods

Lactational Amenorrhea Method

Barrier Methods

The Condom

The earliest known illustration of a man using a condom during sexual intercourse is painted on the wall of a cave in France. BOOK - The Lanark Society Settlers

by Carol Bennett.

In 1820 and 1821 a group of several thousand Scottish people moved into the New Lanark Settlement in Ontario under the auspices of the British government. These people were given land in the townships of Dalhousie, Lanark, North Sherbrooke and Ramsay. In this book the author outlines the conditions which existed in Scotland at that time, the way in which this group emigration was handled and what the people found when they arrived.
A large section of this book is set up as a genealogy. Also included are lists of English and Irish settlers.

Consequences of Deforestation on Easter Island

The history of Easter Island, its statues and its peoples, has long been shrouded in mystery. Some have suggested
that aliens marooned on earth planted the statues as signals to their fellow aliens to rescue them. Others have
said that the statues were constructed by a great race of guilders that were stranded on the island and built them
before being rescued. Still others are convinced that an ancient society with the capability of flight constructed
them along with the Nazca lines in Peru. However new evidence based on pollen analysis supports a much simpler
theory, that the Easter Island inhabitants destroyed their own society through deforestation.

Easter Island is a prime example of what widespread deforestation can do to a society. As the forests are depleted,
the quality of life falls, and then order is lost. The example of Easter Island should be enough for us to reconsider

Such is the kind of recklessly distracted impatience that makes Mark Bauerlein fear for his country. "As of 2008," the 49-year-old professor of English at Emory University writes in "The Dumbest Generation," "the intellectual future of the United States looks dim."

The way Bauerlein sees it, something new and disastrous has happened to America's youth with the arrival of the instant gratification go-go-go digital age. The result is, essentially, a collective loss of context and history, a neglect of "enduring ideas and conflicts." Survey after painstakingly recounted survey reveals what most of us already suspect: that America's youth know virtually nothing about history and politics. And no wonder. They have developed a "brazen disregard of books and reading."

<clipSource>http://www.latimes.com/features/books/la-et-book5-2008jul05,0,3980465.story</clipSource>

China Bans Reincarnation w/o Permission!

clipped by: chouxette
clipper's remarks: Aw shucks!

Clip Source: www.mindpowernews.com

China

It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty, but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness. What we choose to emphasize in this complex history will determine our lives. If we see only the worst, it destroys our capacity to do something.

It is that long-term change that I think we must see if we are not to lose hope.
