One-time Hollywood A-lister Andy Garcia -- who impressed in his supporting role in the otherwise forgettable "Ocean's Thirteen" -- sported a topless and furry look while in southern France for the Cannes Film Festival May 19, 2008. The hirsute actor was spotted getting some sun poolside at the Eden Roc Hotel in floral swim trunks and with a chest full of thick hair. Who needs UV protection when you have a sweater?

"Amphibian horror" isn't a movie genre, but on this evidence perhaps it should be. Harvard biologists have described a bizarre, hairy frog with cat-like extendable claws.

Trichobatrachus robustus actively breaks its own bones to produce claws that puncture their way out of the frog's toe pads, probably when it is threatened.

"Some other frogs have bony spines that project from their wrist, but in those species it appears that the bones grow through the skin rather than pierce it when needed for defence," says Blackburn.

The biennial celebration of facial hair is open to everyone. The host for this event is the South Central Alaska Beard and Moustache Club which is committed to making the WBMC 2009 the biggest and best ever. Major sponsors include the Anchorage Convention and Visitors Bureau.

This week the hirsute world celebrated the World Beard & Moustache Championships. But the tech industry must have some possible contenders.

Contestants line up in Brighton.

this weekend I came across several hundred pioneers of the art who put everybody to shame. Yes, it was the World Beard and Moustache Championship, which I managed to get down to - spotting all manner of adornments along the way.

It got me thinking, though: surely there are some technology titans who can give these bearded fellows a run for their money? Answers on a postcard, or in the comments. I'll get pictures of good suggestions and add them here.

Flower

Size	Large
Form	Excellent form, especially for an A. swazicum hybrid. Basic star form flowers but with broad, overlapping petals.
Colour	The flowers open deep reddish pink and slowly fade to a solid reddish pink: the fading detracts little from the flower attractiveness. (Its difficult to classify this color-could be classified as a red hybrid too)
Throat	Pink with a deep magenta region deep down the throat- an A. swazicum characteristic. Anther tails just coming out of the throat, loosely clumped.
Comments	One of the best new complex A. swazicum hybrids- superb flower size and form, bright clear color and a highly floriferous plant.

Plant

Form	Very good plant form with relatively compact growth.
Leaves	Medium large yet well proportioned leaves are grayish green and mildly hirsute. Though the A. swazicum parentage is obvious, because of its complex parentage the leaves are broader and open faced.
Other	Overall compact growth and good foliage add to an already impressive flower display. Does not seem susceptible to spider mites.

Overall Conclusions

Collector	Outstanding A. swazicum hybrid, one against which all future hybrids must be compared. A must have for all collectors and breeders.
Floriculture	Exceptional choice as a pot plant. Compact, well branched plants with attractive foliage will bloom in 10cm and larger pots, giving lots of color. This one is definitely in my Top 20 for pot plant use.

Breeding

We haven’t seen any pods set on this one but haven’t tried hand pollination yet; all our material is being used for rapid multiplication.
