It's not all George W. Bush's fault, but I can think of a number of things he did to hurt and not a damned thing he did to help.

And private health insurance coverage continued to decline.

Both sides in a legal case over same-sex marriage benefits say recent developments in similar cases could prompt a resolution for an Ontario County couple.

David Harmon, an associate professor of history at Finger Lakes Community College, is suing the college for refusing to grant health benefits to his spouse, Kevin Mayer.

Gov. David Paterson’s counsel told state agencies in May that a recent state appellate court ruling required them to recognize gay marriages legally performed elsewhere — or risk discrimination claims.

Paterson was responding to a Feb. 1 ruling by an appellate court that backed giving spousal health benefits to a Monroe County couple. Patricia Martinez had sued Monroe Community College after the college refused to provide health insurance to her spouse, Lisa Ann Golden. Martinez and Golden were married in Canada, where same-sex marriage is legal.

UPPSALA, Sweden, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- A Swedish study of women who snored has found that snoring is a health risk that appears to be associated with high blood pressure and diabetes.

Eva Lindberg and Malin Svensson of Uppsala University Hospital found that women who snore are not rested when they wake up, The Local reported.

"Snoring has been considered a medical problem only if it is associated with repeated interruptions to breathing. Our results show that snoring in itself can give negative health effects," Lindberg told Upsala Nya Tidning.

The researchers tracked 400 women ages 20 to 70. They found that one-seventh of the women who snored reported being so exhausted they fell asleep unintentionally during the day.

Mostly, it's a pretty good deal to be rich and famous in America -- unless you come down with a dreaded disease and someone leaks your medical information. What do you do? What can you do?

As Christina Applegate discovered recently, the options are limited.

She is just the latest celebrity to find her medical troubles in a tabloid. Patrick Swayze, Britney Spears, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Dennis Quaid, George Clooney, Farrah Fawcett -- all in recent years have seen information from their medical records, or those of loved ones, spread in the press and on the Internet -- without their permission and sometimes in violation of the law.

Sometimes leaks stem from happenstance.

"I've been at the doctor's office and had another person in the waiting room call and report that I was there -- I think it's appalling," says actress Jennifer Garner.

clipper's remarks: It seems there is a growing majority that would like to see the current system of Health Care abolished in favor of a Single Payer system run by the federal government.

But, there are also many who do not want this to happen, i.e., insurance companies. In 2007 Insurance lobbyists paid $446 million to keep things as they are.

Health care is a major money-making scheme for insurance companies and unethical doctors who manipulate the system in their favor.

Higher taxes for complete coverage for all or higher insurance premiums for the few who can afford it? Which system do you want?

You wouldn't know it from the candidates' debates or reports on the major television networks, but a majority of Americans favor a government-run health insurance system similar to Canada's.

Those lining up to support single-payer health care include medical professionals, business people, and many Republicans. Dr. Rocky White has been all of those things.

An estimated $25 out of each $100 spent goes to paperwork, profits, and executive pay and bonuses.

55 percent of Americans, according to a CBS News poll conducted in September. In another poll, 64 percent said they would be willing to pay higher taxes for a national health care insurance program.

Most advocates for single-payer agree that money in politics is the greatest obstacle to change.

"Both McCain's and Obama's plans for health care are lousy," he says. "Although both claim they're not taking lobbyist money, somehow this money is getting through. They are each supporting health care that keeps the insurance industry involved."

Older Vietnamese Americans Suffer Higher Rate of Mental Health Problems

Vietnamese Americans who came to the United States as political refugees are suffering from higher rates of mental health problems than non-Latino whites, an indication that many Vietnamese Americans are experiencing lingering effects from the Vietnam War, according to a UC Irvine Center for Health Care Policy study.

In the first analysis of its kind for Vietnamese Americans in California, researchers found that Vietnamese Americans over 55 were twice as likely as whites to report needing mental health care, but were less likely to discuss such issues with their doctors.

In general, Vietnamese Americans have assimilated quickly in the United States and have achieved success in business, education and politics. The study offers a contrasting view of the tough adjustments refugees have endured.

The John McCain Campaign is hoping to ride the shallow message of don't vote for Barack Obama because he's young and popular all the way to the White House.

But this inch deep and very shallow campaign is also concealing some huge vulnerabilities of John McCain. Buried in the 1500 pages of medical records released by the McCain Campaign is information that McCain attempted suicide twice, yet his campaign won't release his full mental health records to the public. This is a serious issue that the McCain Campaign hopes to skirt; his full mental health records after years of physical and psychological abuse by his North Vietnamese captors and whether McCain is currently receiving any psychiatric care or medications.
