BERLINO - Un professore di geografia dell'Università tedesca Mainz, Hans-Joachim Fuchs, sostiene di aver messo a punto un nuovo sistema in grado di rallentare, se non addirittura bloccare, lo scioglimento e l'arretramento dei ghiacciai. Il metodo si basa sulla cattura di particolari venti freddi che si formano sui versanti delle montagne e di indirizzarli verso i ghiacciai in pericolo, così da raffreddarli.

Lightning hits 91 spectators at racetrack

OSLO, Norway - A lightning bolt struck 91 auto racing fans at a racetrack in Norway Sunday, and 45 people were taken to hospital with minor burns, police said.

"No one was seriously injured," police officer Hans Eng told the Associated Press. "But some of them will stay in the hospital for observation."

The lightning hit a hill where spectators at the rallycross were sitting. Rallycross is a form of sprint-style automobile racing on a closed circuit.

The race, a national championship, was called off after the incident.

Eng said 16 ambulances and three medical helicopters were brought to the scene at Flisa, about eight kilometers from the Swedish border.

The injured fans were taken to four different hospitals.

"I've never seen anything like it; spectators fell off their seats," a witness, Roar Bringaker, was quoted as saying on the Web site of Norwegian paper Verdens Gang. "People got scared and ran. It was chaotic."

I wonder if Nancy Pelosi along with Obama's ACORN organization are signing these illegals up to vote for Obama? And we thought the Republicans where the only ones who stole elections! Do I hear a collective DUH?

A new study warns that fraudulent votes by non-citizens, including illegal aliens, could swing this year's local and national elections.

"When you learn that half of the 9/11 hijackers were registered to vote, that's when you realize that the honor system the country has for its voter registration system is broken," explains Hans von Spakovsky, a visiting scholar at the Heritage Foundation and author of a new report titled "The Threat of Non-Citizen Voting."

The study says tens if not hundreds of thousands of non-citizens, including illegal immigrants, are registered to vote nationwide. Former Federal Election Commission member von Spakovsky points out the U.S. expects individuals, when they register to vote, to comply with the law and not register if they are not American citizens -- but people are clearly breaking that law and there is no way for the government to detect it, he states.

non-citizen voting is likely growing at the same rate as the alien population in the U.S.

Some of the small paper cuts relate to a universe of fairy tales and romanticism, as for instance "Impenetrable Castle" inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale "The Steadfast Tin Soldier", in which a tin soldier falls in love with a paper ballerina, living in a paper castle. Other paper cuts are small dramas in which small figures are lost within and threatened by the huge powerful nature. Others again are turning the inside out, or letting the front and the back of the paper meet - dealing with impossibility, illusions, and reflections.

The dangerous rise in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere may be troubling scientists and world leaders but it could prove to be a boon for plants, German researchers said Tuesday.

Increasing exposure to carbon dioxide appears to boost crop yields, Hans-Joachim Weigel of the Johann Heinrich von Thuenen Institute for rural areas, forestry and fisheries in the central city of Brunswick told AFP.

"Output increased by about 10 percent for barley, beets and wheat" when the plants were subjected to higher levels of carbon dioxide, Weigel said.

The Thuenen Institute, which has been monitoring the phenomenon in fields since 1999, trains CO2 jets on the plants so the gas reaches 550 parts per million in the air around them -- the level expected in the atmosphere by 2050.

"This research is not intended as an argument for doing nothing to curb the rise of CO2 levels," he said. "It is to find out what the effects would be."

OAKLAND (CBS 5 / KCBS / AP / BCN) ― A prominent Oakland computer software programmer convicted of killing his estranged wife even though her body had not been found led authorities to her corpse on Monday evening, lawyers and police said.

"Hans Reiser, today, lead authorities, including the District Attorney's office of Alameda County, backed up by numerous members of the Oakland Police Department, the crime lab, and ultimately the coroners office, to the location of Nina Reiser's body," said Reiser's attorney William Dubois.

"It was difficult to reach the body," Dubois continued. "There were steep hills involved. It wasn't as bad going down it turned out, but we had to use ropes to get back up. It was an arduous process, and a difficult emotional trip for Hans Reiser. Very difficult."

It was an "extremely clever location," said CBS News producer Paul LaRosa, who noted that police at the scene told him they would never have found the body if Reiser did not take them there.

A couple of weeks ago, Billboard (via /Film) reported the following:

RZA has developed a martial arts film with Hollywood pal Eli Roth called "The Man with the Iron Fist," which he says has "the blessing" of his "teacher," Quentin Tarantino, and he collaborated with Hans Zimmer on the score for the forthcoming Vin Diesel science fiction film "Babylon A.D."

CHUD followed-up with Eli Roth to find out what this is all about. Turns out, RZA is not only writing the film, he's also directing! "This movie will have everything martial arts fans could want, combined with RZA's superb musical talent," said Roth. You can read more of what Roth had to say here.
