The McCain campaign really needs to make up their mind: private jets, good or bad?

A line that has been getting a lot of applause for John McCain from the GOP faithful when he's waxing poetic over his ~~unvetted~~ maverick choice for a running mate is:

You know what I enjoyed the most? She took the luxury jet that was acquired by her predecessor and sold it on eBay -- made a profit.

Tucson-based Global Aircraft Solutions Inc. on Thursday delivered Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's new campaign plane, an Embraer 190 regional jet complete with the Republican ticket's campaign logo on the fuselage.

On a side note, naturally the line is a lie, which probably explains why it's so popular with Republicans, but the truth isn't the point. The point is to paint Palin as a reform-minded Washington outsider and all around regular gal. But now that they have the traditional media accepting the story as Gospel, endlessly playing loops of both McCain and Palin telling the lie, it's announced that:

Mob violence in India's Orissa state continues to escalate, and reports coming from Gospel for Asia leaders in Orissa say that as many as 20 GFA-related churches were destroyed and hundreds of Christian families have been burned out of their homes. At least a dozen members of GFA-related churches have been murdered, but no one knows the overall death toll.

"The Christians in Orissa have fled for their lives into the forests," GFA President K.P. Yohannan said, "and some have been in hiding for three days without food or water.

Increasing attacks on Gospel for Asia-related work in Orissa have resulted in the deaths of at least six local believers since radical mobs went on a rampage after the murder of a leading anti-Christian activist.

Saturday night, Swami Laxamanananda Saraswati, a top leader of the VHP (World Hindu Council), was killed in an attack by 20 men suspected of being Maoist rebels. The Maosts had earlier warned the swami to leave the area. The attack, which included gunfire and a hand grenade, also killed four other people.

According to the latest reports, at least six Christians who attended GFA-related churches have been killed.

There are even reports of Catholic nuns being gang raped and murdered by the extremists.

Some children and their parents have been in hiding, without food or water, since the rioting began on Sunday.

"New Bible" Sparks US Debate

CAIRO — A major US Christian publisher is readying to publish the first-ever chronologically-ordered Bible, sparking a hot debate among Christian clergy, the Washington Post reported Saturday, August 23.

The new edition will have the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John merged into one, based on Mark's chronology.

Some of St. Paul's letters, which traditionally appear later in the New Testament, are woven into the Book of Acts.

The new Bible is sparking a hot debate among Christian clergy in the US.

"This Bible should have a warning from the theologian general or something: 'This Bible may be harmful to your spiritual health.'," said Pat Graham, a professor at Emory University.

Madrid, Aug 15, 2008 / 08:44 am (CNA).- Spanish priest Father Francisco Javier Ruiz said this week that the role the Church has in today’s world is to bring to it the message of the Gospel, “but what she cannot do is betray the message in order adapt it to society.”

“The truth is always the truth. There are some things that cannot change, because they are things man has received—revealed by God—in Jesus Christ,” and therefore “history and the present moment must adapt to the truth and not vice versa,” the priest said during an interview for the website Laverdad.es.

He concluded by saying that it is not true that young people have lost their faith. “There are more young people in the Church now than ever. Young people are falling in love with Jesus Christ and encountering the mystery of the Cross, in order to confront suffering. Jesus saves them from the death of sin,” he said.

Usability testing story from an indie game

I think it highlights the problems found in AAA game development with focus tests where the write-up is taken as gospel, but the devs don't do the deep-listening part of sitting with the players guaging what the root of their problems are.

I can't summarise a whole story in clipmarks' 1000 character limit. I'll write some more context here, so if the source page goes offline in the future there'll be enough material.

Before the clipped quote starts, the author explains that he got user feedback via phone and e-mail, the strongest message to come through which was requests for an "undo" function. Instead of staying crestfallen at this request, he sets up a live test party.

The changes made to the game which aren't clipped:

I wanted to find the root cause of the “undo” request. I had some friends of mine host a playtest party at their house, where everyone brings laptops and installs the game, then I could watch them play it.

One of the major elements of Rocknor’s Bad Day is pushing obstacles into place, and the obstacles can only be pushed, not pulled. But oversteering of the main character meant that they were often pushing objects too far into unrecoverable positions -- which means they lost the level and would have to restart. I also saw a lot of people often fall into the water way too often, which was instant death.

After making the changes, I did a few more user tests and the results were astounding. No one was asking for Undo anymore.

The important thing though is that I never implemented the number one feature request, which was undo. I didn’t ignore their requests, but I didn’t go ahead and implement them without understanding the root cause of their requests.

IT IS possible that cricket, a game venerated all over the Commonwealth, is older than currently thought.

In fact, Jesus may have played the game (or a similar bat-and-ball combination) as a child, according to an ancient Armenian manuscript.

Dr Abraham Terian, recently a visiting professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem as Fulbright Distinguished Chair in the Humanities, points to a rare manuscript as his source.

He notes that in the Armenian Gospel of the Infancy, translated into Armenian in the 6th century from a much older lost Syriac original, a passage tells of Jesus playing what may well be the precursor of cricket, with a club and ball.

Dr Terian discovered the manuscript more than a decade ago at the Saint James Armenian Monastery in the Old City of Jerusalem.

Any time we take the initiative to share the gospel with someone there is always a leap that has to be made to the gospel. Sometimes the leap is short and easy. Suppose you’re discussing the difference between Catholics and Protestants — getting to the gospel is easy. Sometimes the leap is long - very long, like when you try to move from your favorite Starbucks drink (Grande Americano) to the cross of Christ. The longer the jump, the more unnatural the transition, and the more awkward the conversation. So the key is having natural conversations that transition more smoothly to the gospel (smaller leaps).
