Veteran peace activist Fredrik S. Heffermehl, thinks that most of the Nobel Peace Prizes that have been given conflict with Alfred Nobel’s will and testament.

Al Gore and the Panel on Climate Change, Muhammad Yunus, Wangari Maathai, Shirin Ebadi, Mohamed El-Baradei and the International Atomic Energy Agency - IAEA are among the many awards which Heffermehl think conflict with Nobel’s wishes.

"Disarmament and anti-militarism was what Nobel wanted to promote," says Heffermehl to Aftenposten’s English Desk.

In his book Nobels vilje (Nobel’s Will), analyses all the 118 Peace Prizes which have been awarded from 1901 until 2007. Up to 1940 some 85 percent of the prizes were in accordance with Nobel’s wishes. Since the Second World War a mere 45 percent make the grade. Only one of the prizes given during the last seven years fit Nobel's criteria.

Saturday's Gallup tracking poll revealed two big numbers for Obama. Obama hit 50% in the tracking poll and took an 8% lead over McCain. This isn't the first time that Obama has hit the 50% mark, and it isn't the first time he has held a lead of 8%; but now we are in the last month of the campaign and numbers like these in October usually mean electoral success in November.

Using Gallup's compendium of presidential trial heat polling since 1936, I counted16 candidates who received 50% support or higher in an October Gallup poll. Hitting the 50% mark was a very good predictor of victory. Of those 16 candidates, just two failed to win the general election--Al Gore and Thomas Dewey.

An 8% lead has also been difficult for trailing candidates to overcome. Only one candidate who held a lead of at least 8% in October ended up losing

thirteen other occasions since 1936 where a candidate had an 8% lead or greater in at least one October poll, and in each case that candidate won

Al Gore Continues to Spew Climate Lies

Al Gore tells lies about the climate as fast as they can be debunked. Now he wants us to believe that nonexistent global warming is causing more powerful tornadoes and floods. Proclaims the Goracle:

Yes, we've always had tornadoes in Iowa and in Tennessee. But they're coming more frequently and they're stronger.

Via Watts Up With That, the following graph from the NWS/NOAA confirms that the number of severe tornadoes has been going down since the early 1970s. The trend for reported tornadoes overall is up, but that's only because improved technology and increased obsession with the weather has led to better reporting of minor incidents:

Gore also claims that recent flooding in Iowa was caused by global warming driving up the humidity. But water vapor only stays in the air for 10 days, whereas it has been 10 years since it's gotten any warmer — as University of Alabama, Huntsville confirms:

So, Astronomers who count sunspots have announced that 2008 is now the "blankest year" of the Space Age.

In fact, if the current trend continues, 2008 could total 290 spotless days by the end of December, making it nearly a century since we have seen such a lack of activity fom our sun.

What does the current lack of activity on the sun mean? It could mean that scientists can test their various theories concerning the relationship between the sun and global climate change. It also may mean that much colder times for the planet are just ahead.

"If you're a young person looking at the future of this planet and looking at what is being done right now, and not done, I believe we have reached the stage where it is time for civil disobedience to prevent the construction of new coal plants that do not have carbon capture and sequestration."

Gore was widely quoted last week, in a speech at the Clinton Global Initiative as follows:

It is fraud to spread alarmism of catastrophic "human-caused global warming" based upon projections generated from computer climate models which have substantial uncertainties and are markedly unreliable.

It is fraud upon fraud to throw scarce resources at Global Warming when such expenditures will have inconsequential results except to impoverish us, notwithstanding that Al Gore believes it will be good for our spirituality to work together on such a common cause.

Doomsayers are claiming that climate can be adjusted in some predictable way, but it can not. It is fraud to claim that it can.

The magnetic attraction of government funding for global-warming research, the political climate of fear-based policies seen in both climate issues and economic issues, and doom-sopping journalism works to push events into a downward spiral of exaggeration and hype.

He has refused all debate with climate scientists. It is after all, for him, not about truth. For him truth is simply inconvenient.

It's a common tactic for warming believers to dismiss skeptical scientists that may have received a grant (at any time) from 'Big Oil' or any of the other myriad 'bad industries'. For a particular example of the twists, half-truths and misdirections used to taint scientists by linking them to money, see the pdf here.

Believers claim that if a skeptic ever took 'tainted' money that their research is also tainted, biased and agenda-driven and not to be 'believed'.

Considering that some skeptical scientists have had their work damned by the zealots as biased and agenda driven for as little as a few thousand dollars, it's fair to suggest that Al Gore's burgeoning fortune leads him to be partisan, agenda-driven and biased.

Republican state legislators, at the behest of the McCain campaign, have now filed an emergency appeal with the Alaska Supreme Court trying to shutdown the 'Troopergate' investigation. The plaintiffs (echoing the Bush v. Gore decision) claim "the plaintiffs and Alaskans will suffer irreparable harm" if the Branchflower report is released, as scheduled, next Friday, October 10th.

Bear in mind, the people in charge of the investigation moved the release date up so as not to have it released on the eve of the election. That was the original schedule long before Palin was chosen as veep nominee. And the GOP lawyers the McCain campaign sent to Alaska have succeeded in having almost all the parties connected to Palin refuse to cooperate with the investigation. So it's not completely clear just what Branchflower is going to be able to come up with, either inculpating or exculpating.

While heavy metal and punk were making waves in music during the 1980s, Prince pushed the envelope in a different direction. Celebrating both sexual freedom and ambiguity, Prince combined a feminine pose with overt phallic imagery. Believe it or not, the shot was spontaneous: the photographer Jean-Baptiste Mondino suggested Prince go nude just before the session.

This album made Tipper Gore’s “filthy fifteen” list when she crusaded against “porn-rock” in the mid-1980s. By organizing the Parents’ Music Resource Center, she encouraged the Recording Industry Association of America to adopt an explicit content labeling policy to protect minors.

The rock band reflects their stripped-down sound with this none-more-black cover, known to fans simply as “the black album.” The album marked the band’s transition from heavy metal to mainstream.

Gore urges civil disobedience to stop coal plants

Nobel Peace Prize winner and environmental crusader Al Gore urged young people on Wednesday to engage in civil disobedience to stop the construction of coal plants without the ability to store carbon.

The government says about 28 coal plants are under construction in the United States. Another 20 projects have permits or are near the start of construction.

Scientists say carbon gases from burning fossil fuel for power and transport are a key factor in global warming.

Survivor - Texas Style

The contestants will start in Dallas,

travel to Waco, Austin, San Antonio, over to Houston and down to Brownsville.

They will then proceed up to Del Rio, on to El Paso, then to Midland, Odessa, Lubbock and Amarillo.

Down to Abilene, Ft. Worth and finally back to Dallas.

Each will be driving a pink Volvo with a bumper sticker that reads:

The Wall Street Journal noted: “In Ohio in 2004, a worker for one affiliate was given crack cocaine in exchange for fraudulent registrations that included underage voters, dead voters and pillars of the community named Mary Poppins, Dick Tracy and Jive Turkey. A recent advertisement by the Al Gore backed we-can-solve-it-dot-organization closes with the claim that it has been “approved” by “the American people.” No, it hasn’t. Count me out. I demand it.

The reason is contained in the very text of the ad. It opens with a child playing with building blocks, and says, “The solution to our climate crisis seems simple; repower America with wind and solar.” (Emphasis mine) “Seems” is a great word for Mr. Gore’s message. It does seem quite simple to think that all we need to do is build more solar collectors and wind farms, and viola! Energy independence! That seems wonderfully simple. And the “we/me” simply has to demand it, and it will be so.

Mr. Gore’s group. Want “green” jobs? Just demand them… from the government, no less. Want energy independence in ten years? Just demand it… from the government, again. Why not avoid the middle-man and demand an end to global warming from the deity? (There’s not much money to be made in that endeavor.)
