clipper's remarks: Could this happen here in the biggest meat consuming countries in the world? Don’t we care enough about our health to cut meat out of our diets at least one day a week? Most of our health costs stem from eating red meat. Most of our food costs stem from feeding cattle. Doesn’t it make economic as well as heatlh sense to cut down on our red meat consumption?

The global Meatless Monday movement continues to gain momentum. Britain, Brazil, Holland, Finland and Taiwan have already launched their programs. Now, we’d like to welcome the wonderful people of Canada and congratulate them as they begin their own Meatless Monday!

The Canadian Meatless Monday launched at this year’s Taste of Health convention in Vancouver, Canada. Taste of Health is an opportunity for those concerned with healthy, environmentally friendly food to come together. The convention’s 6,000 attendees welcomed Meatless Monday with open arms.

Unlike many of the solutions to global warming that require government action, Meatless Monday is a tangible personal action that every Canadian can easily embrace. More greenhouse gasses can be prevented by going meatless one day a week than by eating locally seven days a week.

While the Senate is working on its version of the Cap and Trade Bill that passed in the U.S. House of Representatives last June, new criticism of Cap and Trade has emerged from a rather unlikely source: two lawyers for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Laurie Williams and Allen Zabel, the two EPA attorneys, have produced a YouTube video comparing passage of the Cap and Trade Bill to: “the ill-fated launch of the Space Shuttle Challenger.”

Al Gore will, quite possibly, become the first “carbon multi-millionaire” with the passage of Cap and Trade, thus making him (to paraphrase Williams and Zabel): “The Big Rip-Off Artist.”

Naturally, the EPA is not thrilled with the idea of two of its attorneys speaking out against Cap and Trade. From Democracy Now!’s Amy Goodman comes the following:

The Environmental Protection Agency is being accused of trying to silence two EPA attorneys who have publicly criticized a key component of the climate change legislation being considered by Congress.

An e-mail from a reader says that liberals like to take the moral high ground, even though their own moral relativism means that there is no moral high ground.

I doubt whether the man responsible for the massacre at Fort Hood will pay with his life for the lives that he took. He may well be free again someday. We can only hope that he does not get a hero's welcome when he arrives in some terror-sponsoring country, the way the Lockerbie bomber did.

If politicians stopped meddling with things they don't understand, there would be a more drastic reduction in the size of government than anyone in either party advocates.

It was fascinating to see Barack Obama warning us not to leap to conclusions about the killings at Fort Hood, Texas-- after the way he leaped to conclusions over the arrest of Henry Louis Gates, when he knew less about the facts than we already know about the massacre at Fort Hood.

My first column, more than 30 years ago, was titled "The Profits of Doom." Recent news stories about the millions of dollars that Al Gore has made out of his "global warming" hysteria suggest that some things haven't changed much in three decades.

Although the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation backs up bank accounts, a recent audit suggests that the FDIC does not have enough money in its own account to do its job. No doubt more money will be printed in Washington if necessary.

Your opening statement is PC bullshit!

If humans are responsible for global warming, explain how we got out of at least 2 ice ages and at least 3 (that we know of) phenomena known as snowball earth,that each lasted millions of years, where on each occasion the entire planet was encased in ice several miles thick. Explain how the vikings were able to plant vines in Greenland, ergo the name Vinland? Greenland now has glaciers thousands of feet thick.

The planet's climate is dynamic, always in flux. What we today call warning could, in future years, be called a cooling period; we just don't know. The only thing we are sure of is that in 100 years the climate will not be what it is today.

We shouldn't fear global warming anyway. Higher mortality rates result from colder climes than warmer ones. Vikings farmed Greenland 1,000 years ago, and the Viking King Canute showed his fawning courtiers that not even he could turn back the tide. Man can't change the climate and neither should he try.

I suppose mankind was responsible for the last several ice ages melting away, throwing spears at the moon and sun can cause a lot of friction.

Also much of the date the UN uses is corrupted. Anthony Watts has done an audit of the USHCN stations (1002 of the 1223 completed) and has found that 90 per cent of them are in error of 1 to 5 degrees.

That makes them useless for measuring temperature, or for using their data for modelling. But that doesnt stop the UN

None of these trends up or down can be blamed on human activity. Except in politically motivated models, the effect of human activity cannot be separated from natural variations influenced by 100's of other variables.

Baker said Tuesday he wrestled for months with the decision whether to run for the seat, concerned about the effects of a grueling statewide campaign on his family — he has children at home — and his legislative duties.

“We’ve seen the polls. Usually the Republicans are out in the wilderness just hoping to get in. But it’s early. She’s an entrenched, well-funded incumbent,” Baker said.

He said there is a need for health-care reform but “we don’t need the government front and center on that.” The House cap-and-trade legislation before the Senate amounts to a “global warming tax,” he said, adding that “somebody in Arkansas shouldn’t be a swing vote on that in the Senate, and I wouldn’t be.”

Last month, President Obama gave a somewhat chilling, if somewhat ignored, speech on climate change at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He stated that any scientific debate about the magnitude of global warming is unscrupulous, decrying “those who . . . make cynical claims that contradict the overwhelming scientific evidence when it comes to climate change, whose only purpose is to defeat or delay the change that we know is necessary.”

Then, the president talked tough, saying, “We’ll just have to deal with those people,” language familiar to anyone who knows the vagaries of Chicago politics.

A Senate climate change panel gives a feel-good nod to the collapsing Copenhagen process:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A controversial climate change bill cleared its first hurdle in the U.S. Senate on Thursday, allowing President Barack Obama to tout progress in the run-up to next month's global warming talks in Copenhagen.

...But Democrats are likely to fall far short of their goal of passing legislation in the full Senate before Copenhagen as Boxer's bill lacks enough support for full approval.

Meanwhile, as we brace for Copenhagen:

BARCELONA/WASHINGTON, Nov 5, Reuters - A U.N. climate treaty may need an extra year beyond a December deadline to agree details, delegates at U.N. talks said on Thursday even as a U.S. Senate committee approved a carbon-capping bill.

The Nov. 2-6 meeting of 175 nations in Spain, the last session before a U.N. accord is due in Copenhagen next month, turned gloomy about salvaging a strong deal after two years of negotiations.
