For a long time -- the first 15 years that we knew about global warming and did nothing -- there were no pictures. That was one of the reasons for inaction.

Climate change was still "theoretical," the word that people in power use to dismiss anything for which pictures do not exist. It is the reason we don't see shots of coffins coming back from Iraq; it's the reason the only prison abuse we really know about was at Abu Ghraib. Without pictures, no uproar; not in a visual age.

But now the pictures have started to come, and they will not cease.

Since coming into effect February 16, 2005, the Kyoto Protocol has cost the world about while the potential temperature saving by the year 2050 so far achieved by Kyoto is

(to get activity on the clock we had to go to billionths part of one degree, which obviously cannot be measured as a global mean) and yes, that really does represent about $100K per billionth of one degree allegedly "saved." Guess that means for the bargain price of just $100 trillion we could theoretically lower global mean temperature by about 1 °C.

But by 1990, Huanuco began noting strange climatic patterns in this village of 500 residents at 11,000 feet in the Andean Cordillera Blanca. They included battering hailstorms, months without rain and warmer winters. By 2005, the quirky weather became more consistent and included a fungus that blanketed his potato crops. Huanuco now worries about earning enough to put food on the table and buy school books for his three children.

A 2006 study published in the journal Science, showed that between 1939 and 1998 temperatures in the Andes increased more than two times the global average. And according to a September 2007 study on climate change by the Overseas Development Institute, a British think tank, countries like Peru can avoid a decline in exports and living standards by shifting technical support from produce vulnerable to climate change like potatoes to more drought-resistant crops.

Al Gore Continues to Spew Climate Lies

Al Gore tells lies about the climate as fast as they can be debunked. Now he wants us to believe that nonexistent global warming is causing more powerful tornadoes and floods. Proclaims the Goracle:

Yes, we've always had tornadoes in Iowa and in Tennessee. But they're coming more frequently and they're stronger.

Via Watts Up With That, the following graph from the NWS/NOAA confirms that the number of severe tornadoes has been going down since the early 1970s. The trend for reported tornadoes overall is up, but that's only because improved technology and increased obsession with the weather has led to better reporting of minor incidents:

Gore also claims that recent flooding in Iowa was caused by global warming driving up the humidity. But water vapor only stays in the air for 10 days, whereas it has been 10 years since it's gotten any warmer — as University of Alabama, Huntsville confirms:
