Such marvelously occurred Tuesday evening on the convention floor in St. Paul when MSNBC's Ron Allen said to the former Speaker, "But to be fair, her resume is not something we're familiar seeing with presidential candidates."

This didn't sit well with Gingrich who strongly replied

Disappointingly, Republicans I spoke with weren’t willing to vary from the party line. Newt Gingrich cited “the Washington Post story” on the robust vetting Sarah Palin (even though it's obvious she was vetted very, very poorly if at all), and talked in sound bites about how she represented a fresh face for the Republican Party. Mitt Romney blew me off (it’s almost like he doesn’t want to talk about VP stuff), and Norm Coleman was last seen sprinting from the scene, so they had no comment. You really aren’t a fully realized human being til you’ve been blown off by Mitt Romney.

Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) complained Sunday about the notion that the government "must bail everybody out" and said Hurricane Gustav will not change his plans to hold rallies in Minneapolis this week.

Paul and his supporters will be gathering this week for a three-day rally in the backyard of the GOP convention at the Minneapolis Target Center, home of the pro-basketball team Minnesota Timberwolves. Hurricane Gustav "won't change our plans any," the critic of the Iraq war told Fox News.

The lawmaker said he is closely monitoring Gustav, but said any changes to his rally will not affect the hurricane or hurricane-relief efforts. Paul's Texas district is expected to be affected by the hurricane.

There is a country that is currently waging a war for oil.

And where stand the anti-war Democrats? ANSWER? Code Pink? Democracy Now? Peace Action? Stop the War Coalition? Indymedia? NoWar?

Did you hear those crickets?

There is a country utterly destroying the environment, responsible for 16 of the world's 20 most polluted cities and which has admitted nearly a half million deaths a year from smog alone.

I'm pretty sure those soft rustling sounds were some bindles of tumbleweed rolling through town.

If you needed cold, hard proof that today's hard left has pegged the needle on hypocrisy, well, I think you have it.*

Where are the environmentally conscious, anti-drilling Democrats concerned with global warming? The National Resources Defense Council? The Sierra Club? The Green Cross? Conservation International? Earth First? Earthjustice? Earthwatch?

America's marijuana prohibition drew into its 72nd year this month. It has created a huge underground industry

in 1978, when a bill introduced by Senator Edward Kennedy was passed by the Senate but never got to a vote in the House.

Recently, liberal group MoveOn.org in an email to their supporters sounded dejected, they wrote "Here's the truth: Right now, progressives are losing this argument."

That can mean only one thing – WE ARE WINNING THIS ARGUMENT!

Congress has left for a 5-week vacation without doing anything to address the soaring cost of gas and diesel. This inaction is unacceptable to the American people, many of whom can’t afford a vacation this year.

Remember, way back in December 2000, after the U.S. Supreme Court finally stole, er, ruled that George W. Bush would become the next President of the United States?

One of the primary themes to emerge – from the ornate hotel lobbies of Washington, from the mouths of AM talk radio hosts, from the new regime's sneering acolytes in cowboy hats and fur-trimmed coats – was that at last, finally, grown-ups would be running Washington, D.C. No more semen-stained dresses. No more fags in uniform and half-assed missile attacks. No more her. No more children running the world.

Wrong!

At least with Clinton you knew that the most powerful man in the world had reached adolescence, if not much beyond it. But all current evidence suggests that the world is now being run by 7-year-olds.

Sen. John McCain's growing popularity among women is fueling speculation that he will select a female running mate, ripening talk about conservative favorite Sarah Palin, governor of Alaska, and former Hewlett-Packard Chief Executive Officer Carly Fiorina, one of his top economic advisers.

Political pundits, election strategists and even some Democrats say putting a dynamic woman on the Republican ballot would tip independents, especially the "security moms" who helped President Bush win re-election in 2004.

"If McCain picked a woman, it would certainly get the attention and perhaps votes of some Democrats and a number of independents who supported Hillary Clinton," said Democratic strategist Mary Anne Marsh.

"Sarah Palin is a great choice," said Grover Norquist, a Republican activist best known for his economic conservatism.

Rush is politically savvy; Pelosi is politically cunning. Rush confronts government gridlock; Pelosi creates it. Rush gives solutions; Pelosi ground-n-pounds them. Rush says to drill here and drill now; Pelosi says not to drill now or later. Rush motivates Americans to action; Pelosi paralyzes the House to inaction. I would bet Rush has had more positive influence on Congress through the years by his broadcasts than Pelosi ever will from her House throne.

He is a leader among that league of extraordinary gentlemen and conservative cultural crusaders -- such as Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Dick Morris, Newt Gingrich, Ann Coulter, John Kasich and Frank Pastore, to name a few.

I pray that we ultimately inspire a new generation of patriots with a fire like Patrick Henry had rather than what Nancy Pelosi has.

My first reaction to Pelosi's recent congressional energy rebellion was to say, "What an anti-American, anti-reality-based form of representation."

Now, instead of providing any solutions at all, she still is blaming the president. Instead of spending her valuable time leading Congress in resolving our energy crisis, she's kicking off a national tour to support her new book, "Know Your Power: A Message to America's Daughters." Is she in political la-la land?!

Rush Limbaugh helped to relieve my tension on his national broadcast. He spoke (again) for the majority of Americans (including me) against Pelosi's desire to tap into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve

Maybe somebody should call the speaker of the House, send a note to her office: 'Mrs. Pelosi, you want to release 700 million barrels from the strategic reserve. How did it get there? We had to drill for it, didn't we?'

So drilling will lead to relief. We can drill our way out of this. We drilled our way into the strategic reserve."

Anti-Obama Movie On The Way: Citizens United

clipper's remarks: One prominent Citizens United movie is “Celsius 41.11,” which says it tells the “truth behind the lies” of the Michael Moore movie “Fahrenheit 9/11.” Other Citizens United movies are critical of the United Nations, illegal immigration, and the American Civil Liberties Union, while one movie promotes Newt Gingrich and his ideas.

The conservative group is also looking to the U.S. Supreme Court for help in advertising the anti-Hillary movie. It is opposing a federal regulation, under the McCain-Feingold Act, requiring that a disclaimer that identifies the group be placed at the end of television ads promoting the movie and criticizing Mrs. Clinton. It is also arguing that it should not have to disclose how much it spent to produce the movie and the ads, nor who contributed to it. The Supreme Court is scheduled to decide next week whether it will hear the case.

The group has budgeted about $1 million to produce a documentary film about Mr. Obama that is set to be distributed this summer. At the moment, Citizens United has its researchers poring over Mr. Obama’s records as a community organizer, state legislator and United States senator in the same way that it scoured Mrs. Clinton’s record with a highly critical eye and a sharply conservative point of view.

If the Obama movie is anything like the one about Mrs. Clinton, Mr. Obama had better prepare himself. “Hillary, the Movie,” and promotional ads for it, present statements from Dick Morris, Ann Coulter, Robert Novak, Jeff Gerth (a former New York Times reporter), Newt Gingrich and others

The Obama movie would be the sixth long-form documentary film made by the group, which says it is dedicated to “restoring our government to citizen control.” While some of the movies have been in theatrical release, most are distributed as DVDs on-line and in bookstores.

Thirty years ago, intrigued by the ascendancy of the new right in politics and of Ronald Reagan, I had many of the conservative leaders on this broadcast to argue and debate their philosophy of society and government. My hour with Ronald Reagan remains a favorite.

RONALD REAGAN: Government is attempting to do things today that properly belong either at a lower echelon of government or belong in the hands of the people. I believe that government exists to protect us from each other not to protect us from ourselves.

BILL MOYERS: I watched over the years as the movement increased its power, winning control of Congress in 1994 and then electing George W. Bush eight years ago.

Polluter appeasement

Should we question the patriotism of deniers?

Independence Day may be the best day to ask ourselves -- what is the greatest preventable threat to Americans' life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness (LLPH). The answer is simple: human-caused global warming. Certainly there are other major threats to LLPH, the gravest of which is probably terrorists using weapons of mass destruction, particularly nuclear weapon, in this country.

Between Homeland Security and the Pentagon, we spend billions of dollars every month to try to prevent terrorism. Indeed, President Bush and John McCain say Iraq is the central front in the war on terror. If so, the government spends more than $20 billion a month just to fight terrorism -- of which more than half is new money we weren't spending before 9/11 (and we spend more than $50 billion a month total on military and homeland security). Those who oppose such spending are routinely labeled unpatriotic or even appeasers.
