"A wise man, recognizing that the world is but an illusion, does not act as if it is real, so he escapes suffering. " - The Buddha

"The highest problem of any art is to cause by appearance the illusion of a higher reality." - Goethe

"The secret to film is that it's an illusion. " - George Lucas

The good news is that George Lucas is releasing Darth Vader and R2D2 shaped USB hubs later this month for $66. Lucas is passionate about education reform, and he testified in favor of making Internet access "a digital civil right," that is free to schools and libraries.

While he refused to answer Examiner's query as to whether President Bush or Vice President Dick Cheney was more like Darth Vader, he was happy to compare Barack Obama to a Jedi Knight. "I would say that's reasonably obvious." Forget Internet for schools and low-income areas; this was the quote heard around the Internet, and derided for its sincerity. And it is very obvious. Everyone knows Obama is strong in the Force, a Jedi Knight like his father before him.

Tags: barack, obama, president

<clipSource>http://www.cinematical.com/2008/06/26/george-lucas-testifies-in-washington-d-c-yes-really/</clipSource>

MAD magazine - a cult of humor

clipped by: hitchhiker08
clipper's remarks: To all like-minded people who grew up with MAD, and to others like me who refuse to grow up!

Clip Source: www.dccomics.com

George Lucas has created legendary film heroes like Luke Skywalker and Indiana Jones, but the US director says that in real life, his hero is Barack Obama.

Lucas was in Japan on Wednesday to promote his latest film, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” as Obama clinched the Democratic Party’s nomination for president.

“We have a hero in the making back in the United States today because we have a new candidate for president of the United States, Barack Obama,” Lucas said when asked who his childhood heroes were.

Obama, ”for all of us that have dreams and hope, is a hero,” Lucas said.

lennier writes "How exactly did George Lucas develop the script for the first Star Wars? Why were the prequels so uneven when the originals were so good? Did he really have a masterplan for six, nine, or even twelve episodes, and why did the official Lucasfilm position keep changing? And just how big an influence were the films of Akira Kurosawa on the whole saga? Michael Kaminski's The Secret History of Star Wars, Third Edition is a free, thoroughly unauthorized, e-book that brings together a huge amount of literary detective work to sort fact from legend and reveal how the story really evolved. Indiana Jones is back - and on form

And there were rumours that the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - the fourth movie of the film franchise - was the runt of the litter.

The film suffers slightly from the mumbo-jumbo plot device of that titular Crystal Skull, but it was always thus.

Every Indiana Jones movie has what creator and co-writer George Lucas calls a "MacGuffin" - a mystical artefact that the intrepid archaeologist has to track down - be it the holy grail or a sankara stone.

This time, Jones is on the trail of a skull that must be returned to a lost city in the Amazon which is guarded by the undead.

passed a five-year, $289 billion farm bill with enough votes to
override a presidential veto, making it more likely the measure
will become law.

The plan to boost food aid for the poor and keep U.S. farm
subsidies largely intact was approved 318-106 in the House, more
than the 289 votes needed to override a veto threatened
yesterday by President George W. Bush. The president said the
plan exceeds spending guidelines, distorts trade and subsidizes
farmers as crop prices reach records.

``Half a loaf is better than no loaf,'' said Representative

the bill and voted for it because it improves farm programs for
his rural Oklahoma district.

Tags: farm bill, agriculture

<clipSource>http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601110&sid=aYrKGj5YHDCQ</clipSource>
