Video: Chess champ Kasparov attacked by flying penis

Former World Chess Champion and Kremlin critic Garry Kasparov has been attacked by radio-controlled penis during a meeting of opposition activists.

Around 700 opponents of the Kremlin were attending Kasparov’s address in Moscow at the weekend.

Pro-Kremlin demonstrators decided to interrupt Kasparov’s address, designed to unite opposition political forces, by launching a rotor-assisted plastic phallus towards Mr Kasparov.

The unconventional chopper managed to stay up for at least 20 seconds before stunned security guards swiped it out of the air.

The prank was staged by "a couple of pro-Kremlin Young Russia activists" reports the Moscow Times. Mr Kasparov was unharmed.

Kasparov laughed off the incident remarking that it was "below the belt" .

Murray Campbell: Not so well! The current world champion, Vladimir Kramnik from Russia, lost a match to a PC program in November, 4-2. If you look at the supercomputer that Deep Blue ran on, I think a present-day Cell processor has as much processing power as that entire system did in 1997.

I had no illusions and now I can confirm it is not a pleasant place to be. And this is not chess, with its cold-blooded calculations. This is about honor and morality. I cannot ask people to protest in the streets if I am not there with them.

It is also essential to point out that these arrests are only the tip of the iceberg.

Opposition activists--or just those who happen to be in the way of the administration--are harassed and arrested on false charges of drug possession, extremism, or the latest trend, for owning illegal software.

The Other Russia will continue our activities because, simply, some things are worth fighting for and will not come without being fought for. All of the "minor differences" between Mr. Putin's Russia and the nations of the free world add up to one very large difference: that between democracy and tyranny.

He and other opposition figures were detained during a rally organised by Mr Kasparov's Other Russia coalition.

Police moved in when protesters marched on the election commission. Mr Kasparov was charged with resisting arrest and organising an unauthorised protest.

Other Russia brings together a broad coalition of mainstream politicians, leftists and nationalists, all of whom are opposed to the Kremlin.

They began to march to the election commission and were stopped by riot police.

The commission has barred Other Russia candidates from the 2 December election.

MOSCOW (AFP) — Russian authorities geared for fresh protests Sunday, a day after opposition leader and chess legend Garry Kasparov was jailed for leading a march against President Vladimir Putin a week before parliamentary elections.

Riot police flooded the centre of Saint Petersburg on Sunday to counter an unauthorised march of opponents to Putin.

Police officers stood in line, each separated by about five metres (15 feet), the entire length of the city's famous central Nevsky Avenue, an AFP reporter said. Trucks full of riot police reinforcements were also visible in side streets.

Kasparov was sentenced Saturday for five days for organising an unsanctioned rally and refusing to obey police orders, but told reporters the charges were "unfounded" and charged the Russian leader with taking recourse to scare tactics.

Plain clothes police roughly pushed and pulled people into vans and police armed with batons grabbed protest leaders. Kasparov, a leader of Other Russia, was charged with public order offences and police said they would hold him for five days
"In a free country you can express your opinions but in Russia you can't," said Alexei Alexeyev, a 26-year-old protester. "The police are very aggressive and I fear them," he said, explaining that police had detained him for 12 hours at an opposition protest in March.
"Censorship is all around us and our freedoms have decreased, she said. Putin's way will not mean a better future."

Russian authorities arrested former world chess champion Garry Kasparov on Saturday and sentenced him to five days in prison after he helped lead a protest against President Vladimir Putin that ended in clashes with police.

Kasparov, one of President Vladimir Putin's harshest critics, was charged with organizing an unsanctioned procession of at least 1,500 people against Putin, chanting anti-government slogans and resisting arrest, court documents said. His assistant said he was beaten during the demonstration

At the hastily organized trial, two police testified that they had been ordered before the rally to arrest Kasparov
