It's all over: Years of planning, hours of speech-writing, millions spent on creating the venues to host thousands of Democratic and Republican convention attendees.

What remains are the words that the politicians spoke (or didn't,) and the promises they made.

To re-cap those words, we thought we'd create a Wordle gallery of the most notable candidates', spouses', and supporters' speeches.

Wordle is an online application created by IBM's senior software engineer Jonathan Feinberg. Using text entered by its users, it creates visually alluring "word clouds" that show you the frequency at which words occur within that text. The more often a word occurs, the bigger it appears in the cloud.

Dolly team on verge of new treatments

SCIENTISTS behind Dolly the sheep may develop better treatments for schizophrenia and motor neurone disease within 20 years, it has been reported.

Work has started in Edinburgh using stem cells from human skin, donated by patients at the Western General Hospital.

The experts who cloned the sheep believe they could have a breakthrough within years to help people suffering from diseases of the nervous system.

Speaking at the Scottish Stem Cell Network conference yesterday, Sir Ian Wilmut, behind the project, reportedly said: "There's the possibility that in ten or 20 years there will be much more effective treatments for these diseases because of these skin cells."

The team of scientists – led by Edinburgh University's David Porteous – is working with induced pluripotent stem cells, which can turn into any cell in the human body.

"The new East Wing extension to the National Gallery, Washington D.C., sits on a difficult triangular site. However, Pei was able to exploit this feature, giving his wedge-shaped building a marvelous sense of presence and sculptural purpose. A post-tensioned concrete structure, this extension to Washington's major art gallery follows the triangular shape of its Fourth Avenue site. It is situated on an 8.8 acre site with some 110,000 sq ft of main exhibition space and 16,000 sq ft of temporary exhibition areas. This building helped to shape attitudes to museum building throughout the United States in the 1970s and later."

Banksy in New Orleans

Over the past few days, Banksy street pieces have been appearing around New Orleans. This one is in my neighborhood, and the timing seems to coincide with the third anniversary of you-know-what this week.
Someone else took a photo of this one in the Uptown neighborhood of New Orleans. It references a local (in)famous anti-graffiti crusader named Fred Radtke, aka "The Grey Ghost", whose one man mission to eradicate street art and tagging in NO involves painting ugly grey squares over everything. Death art: The goldfish-in-a-blender guy is back
Marco Evaristti's first splash was in 2000 when he put goldfish in 10 electric blenders at a gallery in Denmark and invited visitors to push the buttons. His latest is a deal with Texas death-row inmate Gene Hathorn, 47, who is on his final appeal of a three-murder conviction, and if the appeal fails, Evaristti will have the right to freeze Hathorn's body and chop it up as food for visitors to feed to fish. Medieval manuscript stays in UK

An 13th Century manuscript, thought to be the earliest surviving English roll of arms, is to stay in the UK.

The British Library paid £194,184 for the Dering Roll, which depicts the coats of arms of medieval knights from Kent and Sussex.

The painted manuscript contains 324 coats-of-arms

It contains 324 coats-of-arms beginning with two of King John's illegitimate children, Richard Fitz Roy and William de Say.

Above each shield is written the knight's name.

The 17th Century politician and Lieutenant of Dover Castle, Sir Edward Dering, erased a coat-of-arms on the roll and replaced it with one that bore the name of a fictional ancestor, Richard fitz Dering, in an attempt to forge his family history.

A Gateshead art gallery which exhibited a statue of Jesus Christ in a state of sexual arousal is facing court charged with outraging public decency.

The artwork was part of an exhibition at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art which featured dozens of plaster figures - also including Mickey Mouse and ET - in a similar pose.

Lawyers for Emily Mapfuwa, a 40-year-old Christian who was offended

by the artwork, will prosecute the gallery for outraging public decency and causing harassment, alarm and distress to the public.

The statue was part of Baltic's September 2007 to January 2008 exhibition by controversial Japanese artist Terence Koh "Gone, Yet Still".

Signs warning of the exhibition's content were posted at the entrance to the gallery.

A spokesman for the Christian Legal Centre, which is supporting the prosecution, said Mrs Mapfuwa believes in freedom of expression, but said "this statue served no other purpose than to offend Christians and to denigrate Christ".
