But Wahl also sells a cordless version that seems to get high marks. The Wahl Rechargeable Hair Clipper even has a rotating head on a ninety-degree handle so it's easier to trim both sides of your hair evenly. Or you could just do what I do: embrace having a horrible haircut.

The Wahl Rechargeable is available in lots of places for a wide range of prices, but it looks like $30 at Amazon is a pretty decent deal.

A new sensor system is under development that runs on electricity generated by ordinary trees! Apparently trees are capable of self-sustaining a reliable source of electricity. While a tree may not seem like much of a powerhouse, the "trickle charge" can add up, "just like a dripping faucet can fill a bucket over time," said Shuguang Zhang, one of the researchers on the project and the associate director of MIT's Center for Biomedical Engineering (CBE).

MIT researchers now believe they can power a network of sensors connected directly to trees to perform a variety of tasks.

Trees could serve as “silent sentinels” along the nation's borders to detect potential threats such as smuggled radioactive materials—with the sensors powered by the trees themselves. They could also prevent forest fires, among other applications, by sending early reports to the authorities.

Right now, the U.S. Forest Service says that manually recharging or replacing batteries in remote automated weather stations

The Weems Stormglass, it is called. Not some steampunk confection, this strange little device, invented more than two centuries ago, is said to predict the weather by the forms taken by its mineral-heavy liquid. Spreading crystal ferns indicate storms, while a clear phial means it will remain calm.

Weems is just the manufacturer. The Storm Glass was invented by Admiral Robert FitzRoy and used on his trip with Darwin on the HMS Beagle. The glass is filled with a nearly supersaturated solution of potassium nitrate and ammonium chloride with water, ethanol and camphor. Here's some background:

A DEVICE which can produce a 360 degree picture by television through a stereoscope scanner has been invented by Leslie Gould, a radio engineer of Bridgeport, Connecticut. With Mr. Gould’s television system it is possible to televise a boxing match, a play, an orchestra, or any other spectacle whose scene of action can be compressed into a reasonable space.

The new invention makes use of neon tubes of various sizes and colors, depending upon

the magnitude of the image. The spot on which the television subject is located is scanned by beams from two rotating arms, as shown in the drawing above. At the extremity of each arm is a scanning drum containing a photo electric cell, which picks up the images to be televised.

Each electric eye catches the light reflected through the apertures in the revolving drums from the light portions of the body, and flashes to the transmitter the electric impulses set up by the variations in light.

Camera makers are jumping into the 3-D photo market more than 20 years after the format was laughed out of town and ended up as Michael Jackson's sidekick in Captain Eo.

Recently, Fujifilm announced a two-lensed camera that takes images and movies in 3-D and captures wide-angle photos of single scenes simultaneously. As a result, we've heard some rumbling in the wires about other camera manufacturers coming out with their own version in the next year or so.

Since the lenses are 6-7 cm from each other (or about the same length between most people’s eyes), the Real 3-D's camera processes the images in real time to produce the stereoscopic 'trick' effect that makes them look as if they're floating in air. This is where the processing update of Fujitsu's 'Real Photo Processor 3-D' chip comes in.

The chip blends the dual images and all the important metrics (focus, zoom range and exposure) at once and pushes them out to the LCD, which is also on a 3-D display.

Imagine being able to walk into an airport or your office with your notebook and instead of consuming battery, it is recharged. Imagine eliminating that spaghetti of wires behind your desktop PCs. Based on principles proposed by MIT physicists, Intel researchers have been working on a Wireless Resonant Energy Link (WREL).

Rattner demonstrated powering a 60-watt light bulb without the use of a plug or wire of any kind, which is more than is needed for a typical laptop.

The magic of WREL is that it promises to deliver wireless power safely and efficiently. The technology relies on strongly coupled resonators, a principle similar to the way a trained singer can shatter a glass using her voice. At the receiving resonator's natural frequency, energy is absorbed efficiently, just as a glass absorbs acoustic energy at its natural frequency.

With this technology enabled in a laptop, for example, batteries could be recharged when the laptop gets within a metre or two of the transmit resonator.

Popelníky co uchovávají kouř z cigaret jsme tu již měli. Dnes je tu něco pro kuřáky, kteří si nechtějí ničit svoje zdraví. Tato podivná cigareta obsahuje vodu, nikotin a tabákovou vůni. Stimuluje normální kouření. Nikotin se stále dostává do plic, ale v podobě páry a ne kouře, který obsahuje škodlivé rakovinotvorné látky. I když to asi nebude mezi kuřáky nejpopulárnější, je to způsob, jak se svojí závislostí bojovat.
