They hired in-home tutors to continue his education there, at least, but there's no doubt priority number one is Guitar Hero. There's a vaguely defined goal of Blake playing it professionally, either through Major League Gaming or by winning prizes in a national and international competitions. But so far he's only made about $1,000, most of that value realized in meals and other freebies won at local competitions. The other pro gamer the reporter contacted for this story said he's cashed in about $25,000 in his entire career.

<clipSource>http://kotaku.com/5037975/parents-let-kid-drop-out-of-high-school-to-focus-on-guitar-hero</clipSource>

Spice Mobile launches Spice X-1 gaming phone in India

clipped by: clipblogs

Clip Source: www.unwireindia.com

Their recently launched gaming phone, Spice X-1, looks like something the Swedish-Japanese handset maker may release in the not-that-distant future as part of its “F” series of mobile gaming friendly handsets.

Back to Spice X-1. It’s clearly a mobile phone designed to appeal to the youth audience who dig the idea of playing games on their handsets. It features a 2.4-inch screen, 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, FM radio with record and play feature, and a microSD expansion slot. Being a gaming dedicated device also means it boasts a decent sound quality thanks to Yamaha-amplified 3-D surround sound technology, and dedicated gaming keys (like the Sony Ericsson F305).
That's a good question. it's a lot of things.

- It's also ready to become a pretty big gaming community. We, naturally, have a healthy forum section that will let you chat it up with other like-minded individuals. In addition to the standard discussion forums, every single page in the database has a forum at the bottom. Want to post specifically about Gears of War 2? Or Astrosmash? We've got your back.

- Then, of course, there's the database. We're stacked full of pages for games, platforms, franchises, characters, concepts, objects, locations, accessories, and the people that actually make games themselves.

All of these pages can be attached to one another. So if there's an object (like a hamburger) that shows up in a game (like River City Ransom), you'll be able to see that link. The end result is a page that shows you every game with a hamburger in it.

Truly the future is now.

Thanks,

Jeff Gerstmann

Giant Bomb

The GEAS models revealed a potentially terminal combination of five so-called “super-threats”, which represent a collision of environmental, economic, and social risks.

Clip Source: www.dailygalaxy.com

The Institute for the Future is inviting the world to play Superstruct, the worlds first massively multi-player forecasting game. It’s not just about envisioning the future—it’s about inventing the future, creating superstructures to solve and counter super threats facing the planet.

Developed by the Palo Alto-based non-profit think tank, it will launch
on September 22 for six weeks. Superstruct allows participants to use
their “collective intelligence” to create solutions that can apply to
real-world problems. Everyone is welcome to join the game.

Based on the results of a year-long supercomputer simulation, the
Global Extinction Awareness System (GEAS) has reset the "survival
horizon" for Homo sapiens - the human race - from "indefinite" to 23
years.

Tags: future, gaming

<clipSource>http://www.dailygalaxy.com/my_weblog/2008/07/superstruct-pla.html</clipSource>

The Future of Gaming

clipped by: Silkweaver
clipper's remarks: I have tried to capture some hints about the future of gaming. As the author remarks: "For now, the only way to predict the future of gaming is to predict that all predictions will be wrong."

Yet, it seems that in the not so far future, games are going to deeply affect the way we perceive our world. Especially the younger generations will be affected, and to some extent it is already happening. It seems that eventually games will not only affect our perception of the world, they WILL become a substantial part of our world.

Clip Source: www.futuristspeaker.com

Where brilliant thinkers like da Vinci, H. Games like Wii Fit and Brain Age play to your mental and physical insecurities, but there's no real proof that they actually improve either. From experience, Wii Fit is more motivational tool than workout machine: http://is.gd/Bo3

EDIT: I should emphasize that this is clipped from an opinion piece, so it's not definitively declaring Nintendo's products bogus.

Clip Source: www.gamasutra.com

Nintendo’s ‘Touch Generations’ family of titles has helped define a new gaming market space: games that mimic those real life activities most people go out of their way to avoid. Mental arithmetic, dog walking, eyesight testing, exercise and aerobics all repackaged and re-branded by Nintendo as gaming’s brave new future.

So effective has the company’s work been in mining entertainment from the mundane that their spoonful of pixel sugar could probably make a game out of pulling pubic hair from a bath plug. Come to think of it, that’s pretty much the premise of WarioWare.

It's a simple re-skin of video gaming’s first principles. It’s a ten-year-old kid playing and replaying the first level in Super Mario Bros until he reaches the conclusion through raw practice and muscle memory. It’s age-old Nintendo dressed up as something shiny and new, sold not on the premise of something that’s fun but on the basis that it’s something to heal and restore.

Tags: videogames, wii fit, nintendo, casual games

<clipSource>http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=19104</clipSource>

Playstation 9 the future of gaming

clipped by: Silkweaver
clipper's remarks: When can I buy one.....

Clip Source: www.youtube.com

Tags: future gaming, immersive virtual reality

<clipSource>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2gzRQ5f3No</clipSource>

New punt for city gaming?

clipped by: greg naylor

Clip Source: www.nenews.com.au

THE face of Wangaratta’s gaming industry could undergo significant change in the future.

The State Government last week announced it will end the duopoly of gaming machines held by Tattersalls and Tabcorp in 2012.

The state’s 27,500 poker machines will be auctioned off to the highest bidder, with no single operator allowed to control more than 35 per cent of the state’s poker machines.

The Rural City of Wangaratta has four poker machine venues - the Wangaratta Club, Wangaratta RSL, the Pinsent Hotel and The Old Town and Country Tavern.

According to shadow minister for gaming, Michael O’Brien, these are the kinds of venues that may suffer under the new arrangement.

"By setting caps which allow as few as three players to operate 27,500 pokies in Victoria, the Brumby Government is ensuring that gaming continues to be dominated by large interests," he said.

<clipSource>http://www.nenews.com.au/Stories/chStory05n.htm</clipSource>

'The Grid' Could Soon Make the Internet Obsolete

clipped by: Newfman

Clip Source: www.foxnews.com

The Internet could soon be made obsolete. The Wii's motion-sensitive controller has gotten a lot of credit for being technologically innovative, but its real genius is that it opens up gaming for people who wouldn't normally play videogames.

You don't have to read a 30-page manual and memorize 17 button combinations to play "Wii Sports."
