FlickrEdit - The Better Way to Backup and Access Your Flickr Photos

FlickrEdit is a Java Desktop application that allows you to display and edit your photos in a variety of ways. It also allows you to download/backup or upload your photos to and from Flickr. FlickrEdit is written in Java and it uses flickrj framework to access Flickr.

Display your Flickr Photos and Sets

Display your Not in Set, Recent, Favorites, Contacts and Group photos

Search photos based on date and tag

Backup your Flickr Photos and Sets

Backup Title, Description, Tags, and Copyright and store them into the IPTC header of the images.

Upload new photos to Flickr (including asynchronous upload)

Edit Photo and Set info, add comments to Photos and Sets

Rotate photos

Delete photos or Sets

View a photo or selected photos slideshow

Switch between multiple Flickr users

Recently a friend started using Flickr which is a great service. I personally like to save pictures locally and selecting them one at a time to download was too much of a hassle so I whipped up this program so I could download them more easily.

I wanted to paint a D&D miniature.

I put a pic of my little winged vampire critter up on Flickr and got a lot of good feedback—and a couple remarks that contained the phrase, “too much time on your hands.”

Man, that’s a dismissal that makes me want to slap some sense into the people who say it. It’s a thoughtless and immensely cruel way of negating the pleasure that the subject has derived from following her passions. It takes in the sweep of someone’s gnarly physical meditation and grinds it into paste.

Hackers could potentially steal personal information, remotely drain batteries, or cause a dangerous malfunction, so researchers are working on ways to block them. The approach relies on using ultrasound waves to determine the exact distance between a medical device and the wireless reader attempting to communicate with it

The plan is to only allow access to a medical device from wireless reading devices within 10 feet, and only then after a series of authentication steps. However, in the event of an emergency, the medical device would grant access to anyone within a few inches of the device. In other words, to anyone close enough to assist.

because the device won’t respond to requests that come from outside the predetermined distance, it would also be harder for an attacker to wear down the battery by forcing it to process one request after another

Sto parlando di Wallpaper un applicazione online che consente di aggiungere un calendario all’immagine che poi utilizzeremo come sfondo del desktop.

Possiamo caricare la foto dal computer, dal account di Flickr o di Photobucket, o tramite indirizzo web. Infine dovremo scegliere la posizione del calendario, il testo ed il colore e cliccare sul bottone Create.

Shape Collage è un software che permette di creare un collage con tutte le tue foto che andranno a formare una sola grande immagine! Costa 25 dollari nella versione PRO ma fortunatamente esiste una versione ridotta e gratuita che ti permette di creare collage simpatici

Il software è supportato da tutti i sistemi operativi e si può scaricare direttamente dalla pagina di download del sito ufficiale oppure usare la versione online dove potrai inserire un URL di una pagina web con le tue foto ( penso anche flickr e company ) oppure gli url ( una per riga ) delle singole foto sul web, scegliere poi la forma e cliccare su “create”.

Per la versione scaricabile invece, basterà installarlo e iniziare subito ad usarlo. E’ l’ideale se vorrai creare un poster da stampare e da regalare a chi vuoi…

The internet chapter of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, a secret copyright treaty whose text Obama's administration refused to disclose due to "national security" concerns, has leaked. It's bad. It says:

* That ISPs have to proactively police copyright on user-contributed material. This means that it will be impossible to run a service like Flickr or YouTube or Blogger, since hiring enough lawyers to ensure that the mountain of material uploaded every second isn't infringing will exceed any hope of profitability.

* That ISPs have to cut off the Internet access of accused copyright infringers or face liability. This means that your entire family could be denied to the internet -- and hence to civic participation, health information, education, communications, and their means of earning a living -- if one member is accused of copyright infringement, without access to a trial or counsel.

Naked mole rats are the only known animals in the world that don't get cancer. Now scientists know why, and it may be the key to the cure.

They may not win many beauty contests, but naked mole rats have long caught the eyes of scientists working to find the cure to cancer. These strange, bald rodents are the only animals in the world that appear to be completely immune to the disease. Now researchers at the University of Rochester think they may have unlocked their secret.

Dubbed 'p16', the gene works by making cells "claustrophobic", essentially keeping them from replicating when too many crowd together. Since cancer is caused by runaway cell growth, the gene acts as a fail-safe mechanism, preventing cell proliferation from cascading out of control.
