The Spark Lamp concept by Beverly Ng is an LED lamp that you can flip over during the day to recharge itself using solar power. It’s designed to educate the owner about their power consumption. The lamp sports integrated WiFi which wirelessly keeps track of you home’s power usage. When you turn the lamp on, it will change colors and flash to tell you what your home’s power consumption is.

It’s no accident that it looks like a houseplant as a metaphor for how plants are powered by sunlight through photosynthesis. The Spark Lamp was created in reaction to the Swedish’s government response to the energy crisis. In Sweden, future homes will have smart meters that will give real-time feedback to homeowners on the internet. But data on a website is not all that engaging so the Spark lamp was developed to enhance the experience.

SYDNEY--The biggest rival for Microsoft's next-generation Silverlight Web technology will be JavaScript, not Adobe Systems' ubiquitous Flash, according to experts speaking at Microsoft's Tech.Ed conference here.

Jonas Follesø, senior consultant at Cap Gemini, agreed, saying that JavaScript would continue to get speedier and that Chrome will become "massively" faster than it is.

"Now Google has stepped up and released a browser with jittered JavaScript and JavaVM, making this really, really, really fast," he said.

"It's going to be hard to tell if it's going to be Silverlight or JavaScript we're going to use for our applications,

he should "be out buying JavaScript books" now the language had been "put on steroids."

even if souped-up JavaScript became dominant, he thought Silverlight was going to be big

Using a unique applicator and a special latex adhesive, makeup pros install a set of these architectonic master pieces, like the high-end Velvet Feather for about $43 and Yellow Flash or Dazzling Diamante for less than $20. A bit steep, but the lashes can be reused as many as 10 times. Plus, the falsies often have unexpected features. Keep It Simple Stupid; 48 Super Simple, Clean Websites

The web today is cluttered with fancy flash, java, ajax, jquery animations and scripts. Often designers feel that when designing we have to put every new cool trendy script in our sites to make sure the client is simply blown off their feet. Designers really need to stick to the good old fashioned KISS (Keep It Simple STUPID).

I know it’s not the easiest thing to do, especially with the many distractions on the web. This post is all about keeping it simple, these 48 sites all showcase great ways on keeping design to a minimum and by doing this allowing the most important part of the site to be shown… the content. I hope you enjoy this post, it might not be dazzling and breathtaking but, you can get a great sense of what makes these sites work very well.

Far from a comprehensive list, but a few tools I love. Your first stop should be PortableApps.com for USB flash drive versions of some favorite tools. They work amazingly well.

TextWrangler is a great Mac OS text editor. ConTEXT is by far my favorite Windows text editor.

Ever need to wrok on your parents' PC remotely, as it pains you to explain things over the phone? You need CrossLoop.

IrfanView is the tool for quick image editing and resizing. OpenOffice is the final word in Ms-Office replacements, working with Windows, Mac, and Linux. And works VERY well.

AVG and Avast are fantastic Windows anti-virus tools.

Bad...bad, bad protesters, refusing to stay in the 'protester cattle pens," trying to walk down the street to get within a mile of the RNC convention center.

Or...maybe bad...bad government that now prohibits legal protest that are, actually, allowed to line up across the street from any hotel or business, wave signs, chant , try to have their voices heard while for 8 years the media pretends they don't exist and the government wants to fence them in cattle pens.

UPDATE 1-250 protesters arrested before McCain speech

ST. PAUL, Sept 4 (Reuters) - Police arrested 250 anti-war protesters on Thursday shortly before John McCain accepted the Republican presidential nomination at the party's convention a short distance away.

Marchers chanted "Who is the terrorist? McCain is the terrorist" as they tried to cross several bridges that span Interstate 94 into downtown St. Paul, but were blocked by police.

After several standoffs, police in riot gear ordered the protesters to disperse. The group marched away from the convention, at one point trying to walk onto the highway.

Officers used flash grenades and teargas after two hours to herd them onto a bridge one mile from the convention hall.

The Atlas of Early Printing is an interactive site designed to be used as a tool for teaching the early history of printing in Europe during the second half of the fifteenth century. While printing in Asia pre-dates European activity by several hundred years, the rapid expansion of the trade following the discovery of printing in Mainz, Germany around the middle of the fifteenth century is a topic of great importance to the history of European civilization.
