When a woman in Marino, a small Italian town south of Rome, turned on her kitchen tap, she got a spurt of wine instead of water. "Miracolo!" she shouted, and ran outside to tell others. Word quickly spread, and soon residents all over town were filling bottles and containers with Frascati, the local white wine made from trebbiano and malvasia grapes.

... Plumbers were supposed to have connected the 3,000 liters of Frascati to the town fountain for the annual harvest festival, but they accidentally hooked it to the water supply instead....

ANIMAL rights groups are up in arms over an annual festival in Peru that serves up hundreds of fried CATS to locals.

The 'Gastronomical Festival of the Cat' – dubbed the 'Massacre of the Moggies' – sees townsfolk in Canete, near Lima, feast on the fluffy pets for two days.

A PETA spokesman said: "“If Peruvians really eat poor old Moggy because they think his meat cures bronchitis, that’s about as bizarre as it gets, although remember that Asians eat monkey bits thinking that will cure their impotence and even Europeans butcher poor old Bessie the cow or Henny Penny the hen, because they see them as nothing more than a bit of nourishment.

“Having toured slaughterhouses for dogs in Taiwan, horses in Texas, and chickens and cows in Europe, PETA’s staff says the last thing we need to do is add yet another poor animal to the list of those being frightened and slaughtered for a taste.”

Start voorbereiding festival Circo Circolo

LIEMPDE - Op Landgoed Velder in Liempde start vrijdag het internationale festival Circo Circolo. Maandag werd een begin gemaakt met het gereedmaken van het terrein, zodat in verschillende tenten straks tien dagen lang genoten kan worden van circustheater, ook wel 'het nieuwe circus' genoemd.

Tijdens Circo Circolo komen gezelschappen uit onder meer Engeland, Canada, Zwitserland en Frankrijk in actie. Ook komen studenten van de circusopleiding in Tilburg hun kunsten vertonen. Wilde dieren zijn er niet op het festival, dat als eerste wordt bezocht door duizend schoolkinderen uit Boxtel en omgeving.

Once the hits had dried up and he was released from his Capitol Records contract, there were one or two more reports in the trade papers of the day - he was reported in August 1954 as playing The Blue Note in Chicago with modern jazzer Gerry Mulligan (!) - and then nothing! What happened? Did his voice break? Did the novelty of an infant boogie virtuoso suddenly lose its appeal when he hit 12? Was he really found out to be an adolescent midget in disguise? Last year it was announced that a 62 year-old "Sugar Chile" Robinson had been rediscovered living in Detroit, where he has worked mainly outside music for almost 50 years (although he is rumoured to be the same Frank Robinson who co-owned the obscure Detroit-based soul label, Lando Records, in the 1960s) , and was brought out of retirement to pound the ivories once again at a music festival which celebrated pre-Motown music from the Motor City.

Levi Kereama, the wild card contestant on the first season of Australian Idol, is now dead, apparently of suicide.

Hours after he and his band, Lethbridge, performed at the Parklife Festival in Brisbane's Botanic Gardens and Riverstage, the 27-year-old singer fell to his dead from a hotel balcony in Brisbane, Australia.

It is believed that Kereama was suffering from depression, though nothing is certain yet. In the wake of his death, several fan pages have offered their condolences and support to each other, incuding encouragement to reach out for help.

Canadian farmer has won California's annual giant pumpkin contest

ELK GROVE, California — A Canadian farmer has won a California contest with a record-setting 696.95-kilogram pumpkin.

Jake van Kooten of Port Alberni, B.C., collected $9,219 in prize money at the Elk Grove Giant Pumpkin and Harvest Festival.

Van Kooten said he left Thursday to drive the giant pumpkin down from Vancouver Island to take part in the weekend festival.

A spokesman for the festival, Steve Capps, said Van Kooten's entry set a new California record by one pound (450 grams).
