Ovulatory cycle effects on tip earnings by lap dancers: economic evidence for human estrus?

we examined ovulatory cycle effects on tip earnings by professional lap dancers working in gentlemen's clubs. Eighteen dancers recorded their menstrual periods, work shifts, and tip earnings for 60 days on a study web site. A mixed-model analysis of 296 work shifts (representing about 5300 lap dances) showed an interaction between cycle phase and hormonal contraception use. Normally cycling participants earned about US$335 per 5-h shift during estrus, US$260 per shift during the luteal phase, and US$185 per shift during menstruation. By contrast, participants using contraceptive pills showed no estrous earnings peak. These results constitute the first direct economic evidence for the existence and importance of estrus in contemporary human females, in a real-world work setting. These results have clear implications for human evolution, sexuality, and economics.

Tags: ovulation, research, lap dancing, strippers

<clipSource>http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B6T6H-4PS640T-4&_user=10&_rdoc=1&_fmt=&_orig=search&_sort=d&view=c&_acct=C000050221&_version=1&_urlVersion=0&_userid=10&md5=8ab256182d3cbfef93ca7b34b5116303</clipSource>

London Bad Girls

clipped by: tanya1177

Clip Source: blog.vivaescorts.com

London Bad Girls.

In modern society some elite and high class London escorts were born as “bad girls”, others gorgeous and attractive females learned the art. Based on decades of observations, marine biologists assumed that all of these species of squids laid their eggs in clusters on the sea floor, where the eggs developed and hatched without any help from their parents. However a recent paper by researchers at the University of Rhode Island and at MBARI shows that females of at least one species of squid brood their eggs, carrying the eggs between their arms until the young hatch and swim away.

But even this august institution has to confront the realities of the 21st century. For more than 300 years, it has been an inviolable rule that neither monarchs nor their spouses can be Roman Catholic. The rules of succession also require that a first-born son gets the top job, bypassing any older sisters. Those restrictions could finally be history, according to a report today in London's Guardian newspaper.

The anti-Catholic rule dates back to the 1701 Act of Settlement, which states that only Protestant heirs of Sophia, granddaughter of King James I, could take the throne and that neither Catholics nor those born out of wedlock could remain in the line of succession. Males were also formally decreed to take precedence over females (although this was already the accepted practice). The preference for males is just as controversial as the religious prohibition among anti-monarchists and feminists.

Tags: monarchy, british, royal, religion

<clipSource>http://www.newsweek.com/id/160865</clipSource>

cultural assumptions about sex

clipped by: Abykale

Clip Source: www.christianitytoday.com

Durham explains that the Lolita Effect thrives because of five widespread cultural assumptions: that sexuality is (1) for public display; (2) defined by a narrow or nonexistent ideal; (3) the property of youth; (4) more exciting if it is violent; and (5) about male dominance over females. Most of the book challenges these assumptions and develops strategies to help girls and their parents resist the Lolita Effect.

<clipSource>http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2008/september/32.91.html</clipSource>

College Students' Social Networking

clipped by: fuordigital

Clip Source: www.emarketer.com

College Students' Social Networking

Social networking is an everyday activity for the majority of college students, and the percentage of students who use the networks daily has nearly doubled in the past two years.

EDUCAUSE compared social network usage at 44 colleges and universities in 2006, 2007 and 2008. It found that nearly twice as many students at these institutions use social networks every day in 2008 (59%) than did in 2006 (33%).

Why strange? It involves males.

Sex, to get technical about it, is the mixing of genes from two parents to make a new individual that has a genetic contribution from both. Asexuality thus refers to any of a number of forms of reproduction that involve only one genetic parent.

That parent is typically the female

The reason is that, in many species, females can easily reproduce without males.

Becoming an ultimate single dad is more complicated

In short, it’s a sexual process with an asexual outcome. Now that’s kinky.

The evolution of traditional, female-only asexuality typically leads to a swift extinction.

Male-only asexuality is likely to lead to extinction too, but faster

<clipSource>http://judson.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/09/23/evolving-the-single-daddy/index.html?th&emc=th</clipSource>

Once Endangered, Now Recovering

clipped by: balthazarus
clipper's remarks: hunters were taking the canary-yellow young langurs from their cliff-face strongholds, and villagers were leveling the forest for firewood.

Dr. Pan quickly hired wardens to protect the remaining animals but then went a step further, taking on the larger social and economic factors jeopardizing the species.
