What is panic? Panic is described as a sudden fear that can be with or without cause. It can create irrational and hysterical behavior. It is an outbreak and instance of overwhelming fear. A panic attack does not choose a person in any age or gender, it can happen to anyone at any place. This condition is harmless but threatening and can be dangerous to patients with high blood pressure.

Most daily events are quickly forgotten. They are memories writ in pencil, never made permanent. But some events provoke an emotional response. In these moments of joy or sadness, terror or surprise, the body is flooded with stress hormones released by the adrenal glands, which are located above the kidneys. This is part of the ancient "fight or flight" response. Hormones like adrenaline wash over the amygdala – an almond-shaped portion of the brain that processes emotion, most notably fear. Adrenaline tells the amygdala that what's happening at that moment is worth remembering, that this is a memory to be writ in neurological ink.

In a case that raises questions about online journalism and privacy rights, the U.S. Department of Justice sent a formal request to an independent news site ordering it to provide details of all reader visits on a certain day.

The grand jury subpoena also required the Philadelphia-based Indymedia.us Web site "not to disclose the existence of this request" unless authorized by the Justice Department, a gag order that presents an unusual quandary for any news organization.

"I didn't think anything we were doing was worthy of any (federal) attention," Clair said in a telephone interview with CBSNews.com on Monday. After talking to other Indymedia volunteers, Clair ended up calling the Electronic Frontier Foundation in San Francisco, which represented her at no cost.

"Our fear is that this kind of bogus gag order is much more common than one would hope, considering they're legally baseless," Bankston says

World oil reserves are far lower than officially reported, the situation far more serious than publicly admitted, and we're already past peak oil. That's the word from two anonymous IEA whistleblowers, The Guardian reports. To add insult to industry, the figures were deliberately massaged, at least in part, to appease the United States:

Apparently the IEA was concerned that reporting the true reserve numbers -- and keep in mind that determining oil reserves is as much art as science -- it would trigger a buying panic.

So, more than anything, this illustrates the same head in the sand thinking that dogs climate change negotiations. Out of fear of disrupting current activity, profit, lifestyles, what have you, you put off action for the future, even though it's inevitable that those have to change.

The singer said the X-Faxtor was 'TV karaoke', 'soap opera that has nothing to do with music' and that Simon Cowell had 'no recognisable talent', in what experts described as a 'horrifying blaze of correctness'.

A photograph purporting to show a 55ft snake found in a forest in China has become an internet sensation.

It was originally posted in a thread on the website of the People's Daily, the official Communist Party newspaper in China.

The thread claimed the snake was one of two enormous boas found by workers clearing forest for a new road outside Guping city, Jiangxi province.

They apparently woke up the sleeping snakes during attempts to bulldoze a huge mound of earth.

"On the third dig, the operator found there was blood amongst the soil, and with a further dig, a dying snake appeared," said the post.

"At the same time, another gold coloured giant boa appeared with its mouth wide open. The driver was paralysed with fear, while the other workers ran for their lives.

"By the time the workers came back, the wounded boa had died, while the other snake had disappeared. The bulldozer operator was so sick that he couldn't even stand up."

Brazil seeks cause of massive blackout

SAO PAULO (AFP) – Brazil on Wednesday sought to uncover the cause of a massive and mysterious blackout overnight, amid concerns of energy supply stability for the 2016 Olympic host nation.

The outage, which hit at 10:15 pm Tuesday (0015 GMT Wednesday) and lasted four to six hours, plunged nearly half the country into darkness.

Off-duty police were called up as thousands were trapped in immobile elevators and subway trains. Cars were forced to nose through intersections made dangerous by suddenly extinguished traffic lights. Some cafes closed out of fear of a nocturnal crime wave.

Since the Ft Hood atrocity, I've seen a meme going around that it somehow exposed a contradiction between "political correctness" and "security." The avoidance of Nidal Hassan's religion out of fear of offending anyone, goes the argument, created the conditions which allowed him to go undetected and unsanctioned in the months and years leading up to his rampage. American security, therefore, demands dropping the "political correctness" of avoiding a confrontation with Islamist ideas and asking the "tough questions" about Islam as a religion and the loyalty of Muslim-Americans.

This framing of the issue is almost 100% wrong.

The city’s taxi union boss was handed a year in jail Tuesday for what a judge deemed an “honour crime.”

Yusef Salam Al Mezel, 44, had pleaded guilty to criminally harassing his 23-year-old daughter, Eman, over three weeks in July 2007.

“Mr. Al Mezel has threatened his daughter with serious violence and has caused her to fear for her safety in the name of honour,” Judge Lynn Ratushny wrote. “He has committed the crime of harassment against her in the name of honour.”

Al Mezel admitted to pushing his daughter, threatening to break her legs and kill her and smashing her computer. When she fled marriage to a Syrian man for a $9,000 dowry, he stalked her to a shelter

In Canada, they jail the Muslim fathers of runaways who threaten their daughters. In Ohio, they move to return them to their fathers. Perhaps Rifqa ought to go to ....Canada. Oh yeah, I forgot, she is under house arrest, sharia law enforced in Ohio

Fort Carson Soldier Arrested

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Sheriff's officials say a 22-year-old Fort Carson soldier is suspected of shooting at two people who were leaving a Colorado Springs bar.

No one was injured and the El Paso County Sheriff's deputies arrested Jayson Stear. He is being held on $100,000 bail on investigation of attempted first-degree murder, felony menacing, and felony theft.

Sheriff's officials say Stear shot at 36-year-old Michael Hellon and 27-year-old Aranda Callen at about 2 a.m. Saturday.

Several Fort Carson soldiers have been accused of violent crimes upon returning from deployments in the last few years. An Army study released this year said the soldiers had trouble adjusting to civilian life and refused to seek help out of fear of being belittled or punished.

Change is the spiritual universe’s way of keeping you alive and fresh.

The greatest cause of anguish is fear. Your first step in conquering fear is to learn not to be frightened of fear itself. Start by seeing fear as your friend, not your tormentor. It’s OK to be scared at times. In fact, fear keeps you safe. It heightens your perception and allows you to take corrective action when needed. All fear stems from fear of death.

It’s the death of things that scares us. Not just physical death, but the termination of familiar things—the end of a relationship, a job, a habit. Sometimes it’s a rhythm that’s about to change, or your location, or a feeling of certainty you’ve clung to.

It’s change we resist. Yet change is the spiritual universe’s way of keeping you alive and fresh. We live in a rapidly developing world. If you’re not changing, life is leaving you behind. Things will get tougher, not easier.

Once you can accept change and endings

most of the fear will dissipat
