Father Allegedly Shoots Wife, Kidnaps Son, Then Gets Hit by Bus

A desperate five-day search for a 9-year-old boy abducted by his father in Southern California ended in Mexico, where the man died after being hit by a bus and the boy was found safe across town, authorities said Monday.

He had been missing since Wednesday, when his father, Lonnie Ramos, 46, allegedly shot his estranged wife during a custody exchange and took off with their child.

Gynnae Ramos, the boy's mother, was in good condition Monday at Mission Hospital, where she was recovering from gunshot wounds to the chest, stomach and right eye, Amormino said. Her son was taken to her bedside, he said.

Lonnie Ramos called his father in Washington, D.C., around 11 a.m. Sunday to say that he had left the boy at the church building and that he, too, was in Ciudad Juarez.

Lonnie Ramos was hit by a bus at 2:35 p.m. Sunday while crossing one of the city's busiest streets and died on the way to the hospital.

Duffy has ridiculed suggestions she is the love-child of Welsh belter Tom Jones.

The Mercy singer, 24, is currently on tour in the US where fans are apparently adamant the singer is related to Sir Tom because she shares his powerful voice.

She said: "I have been laughing for months about that rumour."

And it's not the first time that she has been erroneously linked with a paternal Welsh crooner - there were whispers that fellow countryman Shakin' Stevens was her father.

But Duffy laughed off that suggestion too and pointed the finger at a radio presenter for starting the Stevens rumour.

She said: "It was Johnny Vaughan who confessed to starting that and he also put Shakie on the phone and they didn't even tell me (that they were to speak)"

Duffy's debut album Rockferry has already sold a staggering 2.25 million albums worldwide to date.

eBay baby sale parents get kid back

A baby boy who was removed from his parents' custody after they offered to sell him on eBay for one euro is now back at home, a prosecutor said Thursday.

'The child has been returned to his parents,' prosecutor Johannes Kreuzpointer told The Associated Press.

The parents maintained that the posting was just a joke gone awry and investigators agreed, dropping their probe into possible child trafficking. The 23-year-old mother and 24-year-old-father were not identified.

STARKE, Florida (AP) -- Florida on Tuesday carried out its first execution since a botched lethal injection procedure prompted the state to revamp the way it conducts capital punishment.

Mark Dean Schwab, who was convicted of kidnapping, raping and killing an 11-year-old boy, died at 6:15 p.m.

The execution was the initial test of Florida's new lethal injection procedure, which was instituted after Angel Diaz was executed in December 2006. Needles to inject the deadly chemicals into Diaz missed their mark and he suffered burns and extreme pain, prompting a state investigation and a moratorium.

Among the 40 witnesses were the boy's mother and father, who wore white T-shirts with the his picture on the front and "JUSTICE DELAYED IS JUSTICE DENIED" across the back. Watch what the slain boy's parents have to say »

It took 34 minutes for Diaz to die, more than twice the normal time. Schwab's execution started at 6:03 p.m. and lasted 12 minutes.

And if they’re not in a marathon they are in a triathlon — that daunting, almost superhuman, combination of 26.2 miles of running, 112 miles of bicycling, and 2.4 miles of swimming. Together they have climbed mountains, and once trekked 3,735 miles across America.

It’s a remarkable record of exertion — all the more so when you consider that Rick can't walk or talk.

At Rick’s birth in 1962 the umbilical cord coiled around his neck and cut off oxygen to his brain. Dick and his wife, Judy, were told that there would be no hope for their child’s development.

"It’s been a story of exclusion ever since he was born," Dick told me. "When he was eight months old the doctors told us we should just put him away — he’d be a vegetable all his life, that sort of thing. Well those doctors are not alive any more, but I would like them to be able to see Rick now."

The launch of a new Government agency will see 11.3million people vetted for any criminal past before they are approved to have contact with children aged under 16.

As a result ordinary parents - many of whom are volunteers at sports and social clubs - now find themselves regarded "potential child abusers".

In one example, a woman could not kiss her daughter goodbye on a school trip because she had not been vetted.

In another, a mother was surprised to be told by another parent that she and her husband were "CRB checked" when their children played together.

In a third example, a father was given "filthy looks" by a group of mothers when he took his child swimming on his own in "a scene from a Western when the room goes silent and tumbleweed blows across the foreground".

A 12-year-old white schoolboy is among 120 people dealt with by police in a new project combating Islamic extremism, it has been revealed.

The child, who has not been named, was reported by his school in West Yorkshire after he was found circulating horrifying video clips of terrorists beheading Westerners.

Sick films were distributed to classmates on their mobile phones, prompting his teacher to contact the authorities. The 12-year-old is now being handled under a scheme known as the Channel Project.

Sir Norman said: "The white child that we are working with has been downloading Jihadist beheading videos and circulating them around school.

"That was bad enough, but he also has an unnatural interest in guns and weapons. He had come to our attention and we are working with him and his father and his school."

The number of suspects so far uncovered was "higher than expected", he added.

He has already exchanged two daughters for debt and now the youngest has wiped off a further £1,000 ($2,000) worth, a huge amount of money in rural Afghanistan.

Did he not feel any shame, I asked, about marrying off his six-year-old?

No, he said, the real shame would have been to have his creditors knocking at his door, embarrassing him in front of the village.

Your daughter, I persisted, how does she feel?

"Oh, she's happy to be solving her father's problems," he said.

Family members of Elian Gonzalez, the refugee boy rescued from the ocean but returned to his Cuban father during the Clinton administration, called a press conference to protest Barack Obama's visit to Florida and the candidate's hiring of two staff members who were involved in sending the boy back eight years ago.

Delfin Gonzalez, Elian's great-uncle, stood in the front yard of the home where immigration agents had seized the boy at gunpoint on April 22, 2000. "My fear is that those who collaborated with Cuba's communist government and made a great mistake with a defenseless child will make the same mistake again against this nation that is facing danger from terrorism," he said.

Gonzalez told the Miami Herald earlier, "Some wounds are so deep that they do not heal over time, such as taking a child and sealing his fate to a communist dictatorship."

The one-year-old boy, who suffered head, chest and leg injuries in the attack at a home at Cranebrook, was taken to Westmead Children's Hospital where he was in a serious but stable condition today.

A TODDLER in hospital after being mauled by two dogs in Sydney's west has been taken into care by child welfare authorities following the arrest of a family member.

A 36-year-old man has been charged over the attack, by two Staffordshire bull terriers belonging to the family.

Police say the man was arrested at the scene and later charged with maliciously causing a dog to inflict grievous bodily harm.

Police said the man was a relation of the boy, but would not confirm media reports he was the child's father.
