Ah, but him pointing it out has thrown my decision of whether to buy this game or not into debate again.

If people on this board didn't defend the game so religiously, I'd take your praise on board and buy the game immediately. But the fact that you can't handle one person discrediting the game, suggests that a part of you regrets your purchase but you can't handle admitting it to yourself. Kind of like a console fanboy. They come to realise that maybe getting their console wasn't the best idea and so they lock up, praise the system until kingdom come and shout down criticism (which every console this gen has in abundance, btw) because they're afraid the haters are right.

Good Riddance to Bill Gates!

They say it's not nice to kick a guy when he's down but how about kicking him when he's retiring? Seems to me that that's fair game. In case you haven't noticed there's been a lot of media coverage about Bill Gates retiring from Microsoft and quite a lot of it has been more than a little fawning. Well it's time to set aside the fanboy accolades and cut to the truth about Bill Gates.

Bill Gates' reign at the top of tech plunged the computing world into a new dark age that only the Internet, Apple, Google, and Linux have begun to liberate us from.

Gates' operating system products were second-rate copies of more elegant, stable, and technologically superior products such as Mac OS, Linux, and Unix. Gates' retirement will be remembered as the beginning of the end for Microsoft.

And it's not coming a moment too soon. So much damage has been done by Gates and Microsoft that it will take the computing world years to finally escape their grasp.

There are many social media addicts in this world. You see it every day on Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon. Even Propeller, Mixx, and Newsvine have their share. What you may or may not know is whether or not you are one of them.

Today, we're happy to announce the next evolution of labels: the colored label.

Me? I'm subscribed to a lot of mailing lists: "The Britney Spears Fanboy Club," "Foie Gras Lovers Anonymous," and "UFO Sightings Daily," just to name a few. I get so much mail from my lists, I filter and archive most of it right away but I add labels just in case I need to find it again later. Those labels are my chameleons draped in subtle tones of green and blue. They're there doing their job, but I barely notice them. Every once in a while I get mail that's really important. These emails get my monarch butterfly labels, sporting bright red and yellow. Thanks to colored labels, it's easy to scan my inbox and immediately find all the emails that are really important to me.

Henry Blodget: Skype Could Sell for $4B

Can it be that eBay has finally realized that its owning Skype is a ludicrous combination and is about to sell it to GOOG, MSFT, or YHOO? Boy, we eBay shareholders and Skype users sure hope so. Since the day the deal was announced, we've been praying silently that eBay would finally come to its senses and sell Skype to a company that might actually have some synergy with it.

The uproar over the final episode of The Sopranos is on that idiotic side of hilarious, the place where you look around at all the goobs and no-brain fucks and wonder why you all get to say you're members of the same species. The Rude Pundit's one-line review of it: a brilliant "Fuck you, America." Don't worry - this ain't gonna be some jerk-off fanboy parsing of every goddamn clue and every character's final scenes, looking for where a movie might be made. Series creator David Chase would think you're a tool for doing that, anyway.

A writer once posed this question to a young Rude Pundit, after reading an early draft of one of his plays: "Do you believe that evil people are always punished?" That was when the Rude Pundit still held out the possibility of that kind of retribution. But he had to admit to the old writer: no, no, so often evil just maunders on, even after we've stopped looking.

There are two types of fanboys in the world: those who passionately support a team, product, company or organization in a balanced way, and those who passionately support something to the point of becoming an irrational, spitting tornado of anger. The first type is normal and is the result of a healthy competitive nature. The problem, however, is when a person becomes unwilling to objectively criticize what is being rooted for; criticism that is in the best interest of both the consuming individual and the "team" in question.

1. You become upset when something you like is questioned.

2. You are intellectually dishonest.

3. You resort to personal attacks during debate.

4. The defeat of your enemy is more rewarding than your victory.

5. You bring nothing new to a conversation.

6. You are anti-fanboy.

Toms Hardware plays with the PS3's Killer App

I quickly started playing Resistance: Fall of Man, which was the only PS3 launch title that interested me since Heavenly Sword got delayed. I had played a demo version of Resistance at E3 last year, and it actually looked pretty good. However, I started playing the game, and after an hour plus of action, I felt the experience ended up being just okay. This was for a few reasons. First, the game's graphics looked mediocre without a true HD picture. Even on a slick display, like Gateway's LCD 24" widescreen, the picture looked grainy and sloppy.

Second, playing the full game instead of a dressed up demo revealed some of Resistance's flaws, such as its painfully linear maps, lack of destructible environments and buildings that you can't enter. And third, Resistance feels like an also-ran after playing Gears of War. I'm no Gears fanboy - I think it's an excellent game, though not a great one - but I can say it's a beautifully designed title with jaw-dropping visuals and plenty of action. So far, Resistance doesn't even come close to Gears.

So after my first two hours of play, my PS3 experience is not off to a good start. I figured that Resistance would look a lot better on a big HD screen. Well, a bunch of us at THG - Fredi, Humphrey, Shelton, Max and Aaron and I - decided to unplug the console and head over to Fredi and Humphrey's apartment because they have a sweet 56" Samsung flat screen HD TV. I had high hopes that playing the game on the 56" Samsung would vastly improve the quality of the picture. And it did - once we got the console correctly configured and connected, which took about an hour.

Japanese -tan are colorful female anime characters drawn to depict a certain object, subject, or group. One of the most popular -tan depictions are the OS-tan girls inspired by various operating systems. Got it yet? ... Japanese anime girls that depict a certain subject matter. Anyway, Over at Dark Diamond they run a weekly blog post about non-other than gaming console-tan! This weeks blog was about Xbox 360-tan, decked out in lovely 360 logos, cables, and even a wireless controller arm! Dark Diamond describes her as:

a fun loving character and very social, she spends a lot of time online and has a very competitive nature. She's often picking a fight with PS3-tan. As distant relative to the other OS-tans from Microsoft she tends to suffer from occasional instability.
