If you love fashion, parties, art (honestly, who doesn't?) and live in New York City, you'll be excited to know about a new photo exhibition opening September 10th.

Famed photographer Mark Seliger’s 401 Projects and Visión Cultural presents Vanity Fair’s Fashion and Style Director Michael Roberts first photographic book exhibition, ‘Shot in Sicily.’

‘Shot In Sicily’ highlights Michael Roberts’ unique and complex vision of Sicily – its people, traditions, and landscape – far beyond the fashion world and spanning a period of twenty years. His camera captures the beauty of youth, temple ruins, traditional Easter parades, and the theater of daily life, artfully conveying the allure of Sicily.

The exhibition will be open to the public from beginning September 10- October 18, Wednesday to Sunday 10 am-6 pm. Roberts will also be on hand for a one time event to sign ‘Shot in Sicily’ in the evening on September 10.

Würsa (18 000 Km from earth)

Sculpture by Daniel Firman for the exhibition Superdome at the Palais de Tokyo.
In my opinion the rest of the exhibition's rubbish but this piece is spectacular. That's what an elephant can do at 18 000 Km from earth gravity.
It's worth checking out the photos of how the taxidermist prepared this sculpture (the catalogue is free with the exhibition but I couldn't find the pictures online).

Today, over 200 years after the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade, an estimated 27 million people are still locked into slavery and servitude across the globe. This exhibition, organised by Hayward Touring in collaboration with the photographic agencies Autograph ABP and Magnum Photos, takes an in-depth look at the prevalance of slavery today through the lenses of eight internationally acclaimed documentary photographers: Abbas Ian Berry, Stuart Franklin, Jim Goldberg, Susan Meiselas, Paolo Pellegrin, Chris Steele-Perkins and Alex Webb.

Pet Fashion Week may be a bit of a misnomer for the two-day pet-lifestyle trade show that took place in New York City over the weekend, but don't tell that to the dogs who roamed the floors of the sprawling exhibition space dressed to maim, if not to kill, in rock 'n roll-themed hoodies, blinged-out collars, and hand-crocheted "pupooses."

Memorial to Anti-Slavery

campaign to create a permanent slavery memorial statue in Hyde Park.

Memorial 2007 wants to commemorate the millions of Africans enslaved during the Transatlantic slave trade.

A design of the statue is being exhibited at London's City Hall from Monday until 1 December.

The exhibition at City Hall will mark International Slavery Memorial Day on 23 August.

The park's Rose Garden has been chosen as the location for the statute, which will be created by the sculptor Les Johnson.

"Hyde Park is a fitting site for a permanent memorial to the millions who lost their lives and the courageous people who fought to end the brutal transatlantic slave trade."

clipper's remarks: Made it to see BODIES in Cincinnati, the amazing and slightly revolting touring exhibit of actual cadavers that have been "polymered" into static poses and decontructed, making for the most remarkable and occasionally disturbing displays of human anatomy that most people (including me) will have ever seen. The verdict? Amazing. BODIES is at Cincinnati's Union Terminal for just two more weeks. Don't miss it.

Huge blow-up poo causes chaos

A massive inflatable dog poo has caused chaos after it blew away from an outdoor art exhibition - leaving a trail of destruction.

The house-sized replica turd, which was a piece of work by American artist Paul McCarthy, broke free from its moorings outside a museum in Switzerland.

The wind carried the fake faeces 200 metres - pulling down power lines and smashing a window in its path.

The crap art, entitled Complex Shit, had been fitted with a safety system to deflate it if the weather turned bad, but that failed to work.

The blow-up poo has now been returned to the Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern, where it's scheduled to stay on display until 26 October.

McCarthy is well known for his inflatable artworks, two of which - Blockhead and Daddies Bighead - were displayed outside the Tate Modern in London in 2003.

Unknown Weegee, an exhibition of some 100 photos dating from from 1937 to 1964 and three videos shot by the notorious night-crawler.

Weegee, the New York photographer who set up his sleeping quarters, photo lab and office inside his two-seater car. The man who listened to his police and fire department shortwave radio while he was in bed.

'Weegee the Famous' who lurked around the darkest corners of Manhattan on the lookout for the next crime, the looming car crash, the upcoming scandal, the starlet sneaking out of the ball room. The guy with a massive camera and a big cigar who always manages to take his subjects off guard.

The "Altered Barbie" exhibition in San Francisco (of course!) features Barbie in all kinds of non-Mattel approved scenarios: Barbie as wood nymph! Barbie with an iguana! Barbie with (gasp!) nipples! Photographer Danny Sanchez, known as "the Barbie guy" in art school, poses the famous blond in the same frame as real-life beauties, whether Vogue fashion models, female impersonator RuPaul, or showgirls from the musical Chicago. An inflatable dog feces sculpture the size of a house from a modern art exhibition in a Swiss museum has blown away.

The sculpture title “Complex S--t” by American Artist Paul McCarthy was lifted by a sudden gust of wind this week from the Paul Klee center in Berne and carried 200 yards, but not before knocking down electricity lines and smashing a greenhouse window.

The automatic safety device that was supposed to deflate the sculpture in case of a storm malfunctioned. The blow-up sculpture came to rest on the grounds of an area children’s home.

Museum directors have not yet decided whether to reinstall it at the “East of Eden. A Garden Show” exhibit.

Now, that stinks!
