The one I find most intriguing is The spider/goats:
A private biotechnology company in Canada has managed to breed goats whose milk contains spider silk, the same things the eight-legged insects use to make webs and considered one of the strongest fibers occurring in nature. The silk is compatible with the human body and can be used to repair tissues and create replacement ligaments. No word on whether the goats are able to climb buildings or rescue damsels-in-distress.

About the smart mice: Scientists managed to implant a few of the little rodents with human brain cells amounting to about one percent of their total grey matter. The same group has plans to produce mice with one hundred percent human brain cells, which they have permission to do unless the mice start exhibiting human traits. What, like banding together to escape?

Nick Nolte found himself under fire on Tuesday and this time the actor wasn’t on the film set. The blaze broke out yesterday morning in Nick Nolte’s Malibu, California, home and forced the “Under Fire” star to break through a window so as to escape the flames.

The 67-year-old actor suffered smoke inhalation and minor scrapes while he was trying to jump out the window, but his condition was not serious and there was no need for him to be hospitalized, said Los Angeles County fire Inspector Sam Padilla, as reported by the Associated Press. He added that the actor’s private doctor would treat him for the injuries.

The fire was reported at approximately 11:34 a.m. and seems to have been generated by an electrical problem. According to authorities, the living room burst into flames first and Nick Nolte, who was in an upstairs bedroom, broke a window to get out after realizing that his house was burning.

No matter how hard you try to push their boundaries, black holes always seem to preserve their modesty. Indiscreet astrophysicists have simulated the most violent collisions of black holes yet, and found that the resulting black hole still has an event horizon — the surface through which even light cannot escape and that hide black holes’ interiors.

An international team of researchers created a computer simulation of what they call the most violent collision imaginable: Two black holes of equal masses smashing into each other head-on, moving at close to the speed of light.

Previous studies have suggested that when black holes collide they merge into one larger black hole, radiating huge amounts of energy in the form of gravitational waves — ripples in the very shape of space — that travel at the speed of light. This study’s results were no exception.

The air cars electric pumps can typically be recharged using a standard electrical outlet. Keep in mind, the use of this pump and outlet do not make them hybrid vehicles, just like conventional gasoline vehicle is not hybrid simply because it requires a battery.

She is among a small but vocal — and growing — number of people who aren't waiting for automakers to deliver plug-in hybrids. These early adopters are shelling out big money to have already thrifty cars like the Toyota Prius and Ford Escape Hybrid converted into full-on plug-in hybrids capable of triple-digit fuel economy. "I love watching the mileage go up," says Gannett, a world champion extreme skier and dedicated eco-evangelist. "The highest I have gotten is 232 mpg. I average around 80-100 mpg."

ScienceDaily (Oct. 5, 2008) — Many breast cancer cells facing potentially lethal antiestrogen therapy recycle to survive, researchers say.

About 70 percent of breast cancer cells have receptors for the hormone estrogen, which acts as a nutrient and stimulates their growth. Patients typically get an antiestrogen such as tamoxifen for five years to try to starve them to death, says Dr. Patricia V. Schoenlein, cancer researcher in the Medical College of Georgia Schools of Medicine and Graduate Studies.

"About 50 to 60 percent of these women really benefit from hormonal therapy," says Dr. Schoenlein. Why others don't has been asked for at least two decades.

One reason may be breast cancer cells switch into a survival mode that normal cells also use when faced with starvation, according to research published in the September issue of Molecular Cancer Therapeutics.

It's called macroautophagy – autophagy means "self eating"

– and within a week, breast cancer cells can reorganize component parts,
