Jungle fowl were domesticated in India by 3200 B.C.E. Record from China and Egypt show that fowl were domesticated and laying eggs for human consumption around 1400 B.C.E., and there is archaeoligical evidence for egg consumption dating back to the Neolithic age. The Romans found egg-laying hens in England, Gaul, and among the Germans. The first domesticated fowl reached North America with the second voyage of Columbus in 1493."
---Encyclopedia of Food and Culture, Solomon H. When and why did humans begin consuming eggs?
Humans have been consuming eggs since the dawn of human time. The history is complicated and
diverse; the culinary applications are innumerable. When, where, and why have people been
eating eggs?

"It is likely that female game birds were, at some time in the early history of man, perceived as a
source both of meat and of eggs. Men discovered that by removing from the nest eggs that they
did not wish to have hatch (or that they simply wished to eat), they could induce the female jungle
fowl to lay additional eggs and, indeed, to continue to lay eggs throught an extended laying
season."

Eggs, a produce that has been modified with the types of food given to the hen, has gone from the incredible edible, to the cholesterol killer, back to a protein rich food. Ham, with its processed meat and preservatives may last from one Easter to the next in your refrigerator, or even on your counter-top. Will going back to our origins, removing all these artificial man-made chemicals from our environment bring us into a greener environment? Sam seems to think so. The Green perception must be understood in order to grasp the permanent effect it will have in our lives.

Tags: green trends

<clipSource>http://myitthings.com/InLeasWorld/Post/General/It_Environment/In_A_Green_World/91692008174027209.htm</clipSource>

St. Sophia's cathedral Kiev - made of Easter eggs

clipped by: hitchhiker08

Clip Source: groups.google.com

Since its conception as a holy celebration in the second century, Easter has had its
non-religious side. In fact, Easter was originally a pagan festival.

The ancient Saxons celebrated the return of spring with an uproarious festival
commemorating their goddess of offspring and of springtime, Eastre. When the
second-century Christian missionaries encountered the tribes of the north with their pagan
celebrations, they attempted to convert them to Christianity. They did so, however, in a
clandestine manner.

From the earliest times, the egg was a symbol of rebirth in most cultures. Eggs were
often wrapped in gold leaf or, if you were a peasant, colored brightly by boiling them with
the leaves or petals of certain flowers.

The Germans brought the symbol of the Easter rabbit to America.

Easter itself was not widely
