The conservative blogosphere gave us a preview today of what tomorrow’s post-debate talking points and spin will sound like. The short version: It’s Gwen Ifill’s fault.

The problem, apparently, is a “pro-Obama” book she plans on releasing on Inauguration Day that led Matt Drudge and other bloggers to question her objectivity as the moderator of tomorrow’s VP debate.

I skeptically use quotations because the book is about how the black political structure of the civil rights movement is giving way to men and women who have benefited from the struggles over racial equality. That trend has been observed by many scholars in the last year and isn’t exactly a sign of political bias. The title, “The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama,” might raise some eyebrows. But honestly, how can you write a serious book about changes in the black political structure without making Obama the central focus?

Ultimately, this has nothing to do with the book.

Per Drudge, some brutal late night shots at McCain, who cancelled on Letterman tonight:

David Letterman tells audience that McCain called him today to tell him he had to rush back to DC to deal with the economy.

Then in the middle of the taping Dave got word that McCain was, in fact just down the street being interviewed by Katie Couric. Dave even cut over to the live video of the interview, and said, “Hey Senator, can I give you a ride home?”

“He can’t run the campaign because the economy is cratering? Fine, put
in your second string quarterback, Sara Palin. Where is she?”

“What are you going to do if you’re elected and things get tough? Suspend being president? We’ve got a guy like that now!” Read on…

Republicans Refuse to Cooperate with Democrats' Vacation Plans

While Speaker Nancy Pelosi is busy trying to "save the planet" Republicans in Congress took to the House floor today in Day Two of our protest against the Democrat Majority for refusing to hold a vote on drilling for more American oil.

The Democrat Majority in Congress is literally trying to keep Americans in the dark on lower gas prices. On Friday, after Speaker Pelosi gaveled the House to adjournment for a month-long vacation, Republicans announced we were prepared to stay and debate the energy bill to increase the supply of American oil and reduce our dependence on oil from unstable regimes in the Middle East. So what did Speaker Pelosi do to show leadership? She turned out the lights, shut off the microphones and tried to shut out reporters from covering the GOP debate. The headline on Drudge Report Friday afternoon blazed: "REVOLT ON THE HILL: LIGHTS OUT."

John Edwards can now probably kiss his Vice presidential prospects with Barack Obama good-bye now that he’s been caught leaving the Beverly Hilton, after a meeting with Rielle Hunter and their love child in LA early Tuesday morning.

Of course, that’s assuming that the Mainstream Media picks up on the story this time around.

The story of Edwards and his one-time campaign worker, Hunter, surfaced in October 2007, when the National Enquirer first broke the story.

n editorial written by Republican presidential hopeful McCain has been rejected by the NEW YORK TIMES -- less than a week after the paper published an essay written by Obama, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

The paper's decision to refuse McCain's direct rebuttal to Obama's 'My Plan for Iraq' has ignited explosive charges of media bias in top Republican circles.

'It would be terrific to have an article from Senator McCain that mirrors Senator Obama's piece,' NYT Op-Ed editor David Shipley explained in an email late Friday to McCain's staff. 'I'm not going to be able to accept this piece as currently written.'

NYT's Shipley advised McCain to try again: 'I'd be pleased, though, to look at another draft.'

A top McCain source claims the paper simply does not agree with the senator's Iraq policy, and wants him to change it, not "re-work the draft."

It would be terrific to have an article from Senator McCain that mirrors Senator Obama's piece

JOHN McCain has admitted he never uses email and has to be shown websites, as he is only just learning to get online.

If elected, Senator McCain, who turns 72 this year, would be the oldest candidate to enter the White House.

And in facing Barack Obama, 25 years his junior and making the internet a key campaign tool, he is risking claims that he is stuck in the past.

The former US Navy pilot, who spent more than five years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam, did himself no favours when asked by The New York Times which websites he looked at, saying his aides did it for him.

"Brooke and Mark show me Drudge," he said, referring to the Drudge Report, a website that broke the Monica Lewinsky-Bill Clinton story. "Obviously, everybody watches, for better or for worse, Drudge."

"I am learning to get online myself, and I will have that down fairly soon," he said.

Many of Iran's claims related to missile tests during "Great Prophet III" war games -- appear to be smoke and mirrors!

The missiles tested DID NOT not have 2,000-kilometer range, the NEW YORK TIMES is planning to report on Saturday.

Iran DID NOT launch a Shahab-3 missile, able to reach Israel.

It was an older missile that was out of production, newsroom sources tell DRUDGE.

And a video showing what appeared to be many missiles being fired -- is actually one missile, filmed from different angles!

NYT's Bill Broad is planning to quote military insiders.

Single-digit approval? Not exactly

Matt Drudge blew the ram’s horn early Tuesday morning: “Congressional Approval Rating Falls to Single Digits for First Time Ever.” Within minutes, the conservative group Freedom’s Watch was blasting the news out to reporters. And by afternoon, Rep. Adam Putnam of Florida — the No. 3 Republican in the House — had welded it into a cudgel with which to beat the Democrats.

The only catch: The news wasn’t exactly the news.

Rasmussen didn’t ask respondents whether they approved or disapproved of Congress; it asked respondents to rank Congress’ job performance as excellent, good, fair or poor.

Just 2 percent rated the performance as excellent, and 7 percent rated it as good.

Add those up, and you get 9 percent.

But 36 percent of Rasmussen’s respondents said they consider Congress’ job performance to be fair. Is that approval or disapproval?

Conspiracy of Silence

This really may be the story of the 21st century, thus far. Not the increasing likelihood that the presumptive presidential nominee of a major political party has engaged in a massive fraud that constitutes the defacto overthrow of our constitutional government, but the media nonchalance in light of it.

We have Jay McKinnon who admits uploading other fraudulent Hawaii birth certificates to Photobucket, with matching graphics DNA, at the same day, hour and minute as the Obama certificate, and nobody asks any questions ( Israeli Insider aside)? My God, even Putin has been forced to murder or jail media voices impertinent enough to question his goings-on in Russia's crumbling democracy, Matt Drudge, who will headline crap like Sex in Space 'Is Inevitable'... has avoided it.. I've found precious few bloggers who show interest either. One of the few exceptions is Atlas Shrugged, who went pro-active and found herself an expert. Snippets follow:

clipper's remarks: So here’s our new policy on A.P. stories: they don’t exist. We don’t see them, we don’t quote them, we don’t link to them. They’re banned until they abandon this new strategy, and I encourage others to do the same until they back down from these ridiculous attempts to stop the spread of information around the Internet.

Those that disregard the guidelines risk being sued by the A.P., despite the fact that such use may fall under the concept of fair use.

The stories over the weekend were bad enough - the Associated Press, with a long history of suing over quotations from their articles, went after Drudge Retort for having the audacity to link to their stories along with short quotations via reader submissions.

After heavy criticism over the last few days, the A.P. is in damage control mode, says the NYTimes, and retreating from their earlier position. But from what I read, they’re just pushing their case further.

They do not want people quoting their stories, despite the fact that such activity very clearly falls within the fair use exception to copyright law. They claim that the activity is an infringement.

A.P. vice president Jim Kennedy says they will issue guidelines telling bloggers what is acceptable and what isn’t, over and above what the law says is acceptable. They will “attempt to define clear standards as to how much of its articles and broadcasts bloggers and Web sites can excerpt without infringing on The A.P.’s copyright.”
