Cowboys knocking back shots in a western saloon bar?

Scottish highlanders taking a wee nip while gazing across a beautiful loch?

Grandpa’s medicinal nightcap to send him off to sleep with a warm glow?

Or a hobo swigging from a cunningly camouflaged bottle nestled within a brown paper bag?

Beer is a casual, social drink. Knocked back in bars and homes alike, to wash down a burger or to help lubricate cheering on our favorite team.

Whiskey on the other hand is seen as a hard drink. It is a drinker’s drink. The sole preserve of men. It’s serious. It is the opposite end of the spectrum to fruit-based neon-coloured liquids sporting little paper umbrellas.

Tags: beer, whisky, whiskey, alcohol, drinking, boozwe

<clipSource>http://www.foodvu.com/content/graduating-beer-whisky-10-facts-you-need-know</clipSource>

Cannabis less harmful than drinking, smoking: report

clipped by: Silkweaver
clipper's remarks: The British government is pressing for cannabis to be re-classified in law as a Class B drug compared with its current, less serious, Class C classification.

Clip Source: www.camizone.com

Clip Source: www.physorg.com

Cannabis is less harmful than alcohol or tobacco, according to a report by a British research charity Thursday, which called for a "serious rethink" of drug policy.

The Beckley Foundation, a charity which numbers senior British and other academics among its advisors, said banning cannabis has no impact on supply and turns users into criminals.

In a number of carefully controlled trials, scientists have demonstrated that if we drink 1 liter of water each day, at the end of the year we would have absorbed more than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria found in faeces. In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of Poop.

However, we do not run that risk when drinking wine (or rum, whiskey, beer or other liquor) because alcohol has to go through a purification process of boiling, filtering and/or fermenting.

Remember:

Water = Poop

Wine = Health

Therefore, it's better to drink wine and talk stupid, than to drink water and be full of shit.

However, they soon gained popularity so that an incredible number of people, not only gamers, consume them. It seems that United States citizens alone spent approximately 5.4 billion U.S. dollars on energy drinks in 2006, a figure growing about 47 percent per year, a report said.

Tags: energy drinks, red bull, death, overdose, health

<clipSource>http://www.efluxmedia.com/news_Energy_Drinks_Youd_Better_Avoid_Them_Study_Says_25322.html</clipSource>

Physiological Effects of Alcohol Consumption

clipped by: edwardmasen9
clipper's remarks: Many people for many reasons drink alcohol from time to time, and when you don't drink that much, all is well. width=290>Alcohol (when used commonly refers to ethanol) is consumed widely
around the world for numerous reasons. Its properties have been both praised and
demonized. In humans it generally acts as a depressant with, conversely, mild
stimulating effects of some parts of the brain. At low levels of consumption
alcohol has minimal effects on a person; at higher levels it leads to
disorientation, coma, and death. Most alcohol that is consumed is removed from
the body via the liver, which breaks alcohol down before removal. However,
alcohol can readily cross any cell membrane. Ethanol is widely used as a solvent
and disinfectant. It is used as a solvent because it breaks down many proteins
and other molecules, such as lipids, which form the main structure of cell
walls. It is used as a disinfectant for the same reasons — it breaks down

Roderick M. Ruffin, 53, had a blood alcohol content over 0.15 on Saturday while he was driving to Tempe to set up the van, police and company officials said. The legal limit is 0.08, and Ruffin's blood alcohol level is considered an extreme DUI.

The motorist, who claimed to be a retired police officer, told dispatchers he saw the van hit the curb twice and almost collide with the vehicle in front of it, police said.

“On the back of it, it says photo enforcement vehicle on the back and the guy is deuced,” the caller said.

Ruffin was driving the van to Tempe at the time, where he would have put it into operation, said Redflex spokeswoman Shoba Vaitheeswaran.

“We stand by our mission to help improve safety on the roads and we have a zero-tolerance policy for drinking and driving,” Vaitheeswaran said.

<clipSource>http://www.azcentral.com/community/scottsdale/articles/2008/09/09/20080909abrk-duiphotoradar0909.html</clipSource>

No Need For Speed

clipped by: debbyski
clipper's remarks: I don't know how many times I've just about been wiped out on the road by idiots.

Clip Source: www.nytimes.com

SPEEDING is the cause of 30 percent of all traffic deaths in the United States — about 13,000 people a year. By comparison, alcohol is blamed 39 percent of the time, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. But unlike drinking, which requires the police, breathalyzers and coercion to improve drivers’ behavior, there’s a simple way to prevent speeding: quit building cars that can exceed the speed limit.

Most cars can travel over 100 miles an hour — an illegal speed in every state.
Alleged pictures of Bristol Palin, who is five months pregnant and 17 years-old, have surfaced showing her drinking alcohol while she is underage. Bristol is the daughter of Sarah Palin, who is John McCain’s vice presidential running mate. The father of Bristol Palin’s baby has been identified as Levi Johnston (18), who has also been called Levi Wallner by other media reports. Levi and Bristol have been dating for about a year in their hometown Wasilla, Alaska.
