Scientists have determined the mass of the largest things that could possibly exist in our universe. New results have placed an upper limit on the current size of black holes - and at fifty billion suns it's pretty damn big. That's a hundred thousand tredagrams, and you'll never get the chance to use that word in relation to anything else.

Black holes are regions of space where matter is so dense that regular physics just breaks down. You might think physical laws are immutable - you can't get out of gravitational attraction the same way you can get out of a speeding ticket - but beyond a certain level laws which determine how matter is regulated are simply overloaded and material is crushed down into something that's less an object and more a region of altered space.

While there's theoretically no upper limit on how big a black hole can be, there are hard limits on how big they could have become by now.

St Regis university sold fake degrees to nearly 10,000 people

Fraudsters based in Spokane, Washington state, sold over $6m (the equivalent to £4m at that time) of bogus qualifications to nearly 10,000 people around the world, including medical degrees and qualifications in nuclear engineering.

The founders of St Regis University were recently sentenced to three years in prison for the fraud.

BBC Radio 5 Live's Donal MacIntyre programme tracked down two of the British people who have a PhD from the fake university.

U.S. House of Representatives

Alaska is truly our nation's last frontier. It is also the last place in the U.S. where a few hunters still use aircraft to chase and kill wolves. They shoot these animals from the air or chase them to exhaustion before landing and shooting them point blank.

As recently as July, state wildlife agency personnel in Alaska staked out a known wolf denning site -- a practice that is illegal under Alaska law -- and, using helicopters, gunned down 14 adult wolves from the air. When they landed, they found the 14 helpless pups in the nearby dens -- just weeks old -- and methodically shot each one in the head. 28 wolves gunned down in all.

Congress passed a law thirty five years ago to put an end to aerial hunting. But Alaska is exploiting a loophole in federal law to resume the practice, not only for wolves, but bears as well. Hundreds of scientists have condemned what Alaska is doing, even as other states threaten to follow Alaska's lead.

1.6 Million Pets Put Down Due to Vet Bill Costs

Britons are facing up to a growing strain on their personal finances: caring for their pets.

According to figures from Sainsbury's Finance, vet bills are becoming increasingly unaffordable for many - with price inflation estimated at around 12 percent a year. This can be set against the current general inflation rate of 4.4 percent across all goods and services, which is itself at a 16-year high.

These price pressures have led pet owners to make some hard choices. The Sainsbury's research shows that 1.6 million cats and dogs were put down between 2003 and 2008 because their owners could not afford either veterinary fees or other medical costs of looking after their pet.

Comcast Appeals F.C.C. Sanction

Comcast made no secret of its interest in challenging the Federal Communications Commission’s order in August sanctioning the cable company for how it impeded the Internet connections of some customers as they were trying to share files over the Internet.

The central issue is whether the sanction was appropriate, given that the commission had not previously published a rule about the issue in question: Whether Internet providers can choose to block one Web site or program while allowing traffic to others. Comcast, in an attempt to crack down on its heaviest users, slowed down connections from the BitTorrent program, used to share movies and other files.

Kevin Martin, the commission’s chairman, has argued that making rules in advance is not a good method to regulate fast-moving markets like Internet service. Under his stewardship, the commission has published broad principles and has taken action only when it found that objectionable practices have occurred.

Tree lover brings out the chopper

A NEIGHBOURHOOD battle reached new heights yesterday when a Hawthorn resident paid $8000 to have a tree flown into his back yard by helicopter.

And Graeme Alderman plans to send the bill to the bloke over the back fence.

He says his neighbour cut down his old tree.

Mr Alderman said that the neighbour took the liberty of pruning the original 10.5m lilly pilly he planted 25 years ago down to a leafless 2.5m stump.

"He couldn't possibly have thought it was his. It was about 1.8m-2m into my block.

Not wanting to wait 25 years to regain his privacy, Mr Alderman called in Speciality Trees to deliver an established tree.

"It was pretty special. We hadn't organised a helicopter tree drop before," said project co-ordinator Ben Scoble, of Speciality Trees.

The 4.5m weeping lilly pilly cost $3000 to buy, $4000 to fly and $1000 to plant.

It will fill a gaping hole left by an allegedly overzealous new man on the block.

Guidelines

Here are a few hints to help you develop a walking program:

1. Warm up before you begin, paying special attention to stretching the backs of the legs and thighs. Also, be sure to cool down slowly.
2. Don't push yourself. If you get tired, slow down. Try the "talk test." If you are too breathless to carry on a conversation, you're going too fast!
3. Walk regularly. If you don't exercise at least three times a week, you won't experience as many of the benefits of regular physical activity as you could, or make as much progress.
4. Watch out for dogs and cars. Wear light-colored clothes or a reflecting band during darkness so that drivers can see you. Face oncoming traffic and do not assume that drivers will notice you on the roadway.

Customer: "You see it on the TV all the time."

Tech Support: "No, that's not possible."

Customer: "Well, I just want to know if I load this disk into my computer, won't other people be able to get into my computer and access everything I have in there?"

The second day I worked doing phone tech support, I was called by an elderly woman who was sobbing and panicked. After spending twenty minutes getting her calmed down, I finally found out what her problem was. She had been on the Internet and recieved the ever-popular message "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down." Immediately afterward, she had heard police sirens down the road and thought, "They're coming to lock me up!"

Customer: "I think I've broken my computer! There's a message across the screen that says: 'It is now safe to turn off your PC.' WHAT SHOULD I DO?!?!"
