I love my family and sadly I haven't heard anything from McCain/Palin that would improved the average American's life in the future! There are difficult days ahead and I want McCain/Palin to speak about their plans to improve the national/international issues that affect all American Families not just more hooplah about Gov. Palin's.

I'm already sick of hearing about her family, what about MINE! And please MEDIA, don't take it easy on Palin because she's a hockey mom. As a self-proclaimed pitbull with lipstick, she should know that if you rumble with the Big Dogs you should EXPECT to get bit.

Directional selection favors those individuals who have extreme variations in traits within a population. A useful example can be found in the breeding of the greyhound dog. Early breeders were interested in dog with the greatest speed. They carefully selected from a group of hounds those who ran the fastest. From their offspring, the greyhound breeders again selected those dogs who ran the fastest. By continuing this selection for those dogs who ran faster than most of the hound dog population, they gradually produced a dog who could run up to 64km/h (40mph).

Stabilizing selection favors the norm, the common, average traits in a population. Look at the Siberian Husky, a dog bred for working in the snow. The Siberian Husky is a medium dog, males weighing 16-27kg (35-60lbs). These dogs have strong pectoral and leg muscles, allowing it to move through dense snow. The Siberian Husky is well designed for working in the snow. If the Siberian Husky had heavier muscles, it would sink deeper into the snow, so they would move slower or would sink and get stuck in the snow. Yet if the Siberian Husky had lighter muscles, it would not be strong enough to pull sleds and equipment, so the dog would have little value as a working dog. So stabilizing selection has chosen a norm for the the size of the Siberian Husky.

Dogs suffering from lymphoma will be able to receive the same type of medical treatment as their human counterparts, as North Carolina State University becomes the first university in the nation to offer canine bone marrow transplants in a clinical setting.

Dr. Steven Suter, assistant professor of oncology in NC State's College of Veterinary Medicine, received three leukophoresis machines donated by the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Leukophoresis machines are designed to harvest healthy stem cells from cancer patients. The machines are used in conjunction with drug therapy to harvest stem cells that have left the patient's bone marrow and entered the bloodstream. The harvested cancer-free cells are then reintroduced into the patient after total body radiation is used to kill residual cancer cells left in the body. This treatment is called peripheral blood stem cell transplantation.

Guidelines

Here are a few hints to help you develop a walking program:

1. Warm up before you begin, paying special attention to stretching the backs of the legs and thighs. Also, be sure to cool down slowly.
2. Don't push yourself. If you get tired, slow down. Try the "talk test." If you are too breathless to carry on a conversation, you're going too fast!
3. Walk regularly. If you don't exercise at least three times a week, you won't experience as many of the benefits of regular physical activity as you could, or make as much progress.
4. Watch out for dogs and cars. Wear light-colored clothes or a reflecting band during darkness so that drivers can see you. Face oncoming traffic and do not assume that drivers will notice you on the roadway.

Fed-up neighborhood passes one-dog rule

LIMA (Reuters) - Dog lovers beware. A neighborhood in Peru's capital, Lima, has passed a law prohibiting families living in apartments from having more than one dog. People living in houses are allowed two dogs, while those found with more will be subject to hefty fines.
