Princess Diana unlawfully killed

Princess Diana was unlawfully killed due to the "gross negligence" of driver Henri Paul and the paparazzi, an inquest jury has found.

The jury reached the same verdict for her companion Dodi Al Fayed.

The jury also specified that Mr Paul's drink-driving and a lack of seatbelts contributed to their deaths.

Mr Al Fayed's father Mohamed refused to accept the verdict. Former Met Police chief Lord Stevens said he hoped it would bring "closure".

The jury returned joint verdicts of unlawful killing through grossly negligent driving - or gross negligence manslaughter

The inquest into the 1997 Paris crash that killed the couple and Mr Paul lasted six months.

The total cost to British taxpayers of investigating Princess Diana's death is expected to top £10 million.

Princess Diana would have married Dodi Al Fayed, and was possibly planning to live with him first, according to her stepmother Raine, the former Countess Spencer.

Speaking at the Paris inquest into the couple's deaths this week, Raine - who is a close friend of Dodi's father Mohamed Al Fayed and a director of his London department store Harrods - said she was sure the couple's relationship was much "deeper" and "closer" than "a summer romance".

"She said she had not been so happy for years. She was really blissfull,"

describing one particular phone call which took place just two weeks before her death. "That was the moment when I really felt she and Dodi would get engaged and then married."

"they may have even... lived together," Diana's former stepmother poured cold water on reports that the Princess could have been pregnant at the time of her death. "She was brought up in an old fashioned way," she said. "I think it would have been out of the question for her."

clipper's remarks: I've never suspected it to be an accident. My personal belief is that the Royal Family didn't like PrincessDiana connecting herself to Dodi. The Queen disliked Al Fayed , he constantly harassed the Queen for a British Passport for Years....she disliked him and saw him as a threat to the Country due to his unsavoury connections!
I do believe they were murdered.

Al Fayed wins battle in Princess Di case

Al Fayed has long argued that Queen Elizabeth II's husband, Prince Philip, was responsible for ordering the pair murdered. Philip has not publicly commented on the accusation.

The inquests could begin only after the investigations into the August 1997 deaths of Diana and Fayed was complete. A two-year French investigation, a three-year Metropolitan Police inquiry in Britain and repeated legal action by al Fayed have delayed the inquest by nearly 10 years.
