Solche Leute hinterlassen nunmal vornehmlich puren ihrer Taten im Internet. Wer glaubt das nicht?!
Das ist genauso klar, wie die Notwendigkeit, unsere Freiheit am Hindukusch zu verteidigen.

Clip Source: netzpolitik.org

<clipSource>http://netzpolitik.org/2008/report-muenchen-macht-politik-gegen-datenschutz/</clipSource>

Gene test could 'prevent' heart disease

clipped by: pokkets
clipper's remarks: I believe genetic testing should be an option, not a requirement. That may be a good principle for adults, but the call is for testing to be done on 'at risk' children under 10. I'd be surprised if they could find anyone in the world that wasn't subject to some genetic risk or another. Still, a DNA Database is as good as a chip, or an ID card, and much better than a finger print...but I'm a cynic..or perhaps an optimist with experience.

Clip Source: www.abc.net.au

Anna Salleh

News analysis Australian health authorities could prevent costly heart disease cases with a nationwide genetic screening program, suggest some experts.

To what extent will knowing our genetic predisposition to preventable diseases change our behaviour?

But others caution safeguards are needed, and such tests may not be the quick fix for heart disease.

Three Australian experts this week called for more support to screen families with familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH) - a defective gene that prevents liver cells from taking up cholesterol from the blood.

UK authorities may soon recommend at-risk children under the age of 10 years be screened for the FH gene.

"[The UK proposals] represent an approach we would like to see in Australia," says Dr David Sullivan, president of the Australian Atherosclerosis Society, who spoke at a forum organised by the Australian Science Media Centre

a genetic test could help identify FH early so people could take action to prevent heart disease

<clipSource>http://www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2008/08/29/2350114.htm?site=science&topic=latest</clipSource>

google

clipped by: futurikon

Clip Source: www.fastcompany.com

I am writing to say what an excellent product you have! I've
used it all of my married life, as my Mom always told me it was
the best. Now that I am almost forty and with kids, I find it
				even better!

In fact, about a month ago, I spilled some red wine on my new
white blouse. My inconsiderate and uncaring husband started to
belittle me about how clumsy I was, and generally started
becoming a pain in the neck. One thing led to another and
somehow I ended up with his blood on my new white blouse! I
grabbed my bottle of Tide with bleach alternative, to my
surprise and satisfaction, all of the stains came out!

In fact, the stains came out so well the detectives who came by
yesterday told me that the DNA tests on my blouse were negative
and then my attorney called and said that I was no longer
considered a suspect in the disappearance of my husband.

Well, gotta go, have to write to the Hefty bag people

Tags: tide, joke, funny, stains, hefty

<clipSource>http://www.avolites.org.uk/jokes/tide-letter.htm</clipSource>

"Mummified remains from 1948 identified"

clipped by: cakebelly
clipper's remarks: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080817/ap_on_re_us/mummified_remains

Clip Source: news.yahoo.com

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Nine years of sleuthing, advanced DNA science and cutting-edge forensic techniques have finally put a name to a mummified hand and arm found in an Alaska glacier.

"What takes care of neutralizing DNA, to allow chromosomes to condense?" Levi-Setti asked. "Most biology books do not tell you."

Other scientists had already identified positively charged atoms called cations as neutralizing factors. They found that dinoflagellate chromosomes explode upon the removal of calcium and magnesium cations.

Levi-Setti has produced the first images of the distribution of these cations in dinoflagellate chromosomes. These images verify that cations, mainly of calcium and magnesium, neutralize DNA's enormous negative charge, and further suggest a critical role in folding the protein as well.

The finding raises questions about the evolution of chromosomes, Rizzo said. "Did dinoflagellates once have histones and then lost them? Or did dinoflagellates never have histones and just 'figured out' a different way to fold lar

Clip Source: www.labspaces.net

Human cells somehow squeeze two meters of double-stranded DNA into the space of a typical chromosome, a package 10,000 times smaller than the volume of genetic material it contains.

"It is like compacting your entire wardrobe into a shoebox," said Riccardo Levi-Setti, Professor Emeritus in Physics at the University of Chicago.

Now research into single-celled, aquatic algae called dinoflagellates is showing that these and related organisms may have evolved more than one way to achieve this feat of genetic packing.

Even so, the evolution of chromosomes in dinoflagellates, humans and other mammals seem to share a common biochemical basis

Packing the whole length of DNA into tiny chromosomes is problematic because DNA carries a negative charge that, unless neutralized, prevents any attempt at folding and coiling due to electrostatic repulsion.

In humans and mammals, proteins called histones partially neutralize the DNA's negative
