Manage Your Photos with Kflickr

Installing KFlickr is simple. You may already have it on your hard drive as part of your distro install (a quick look-see should tell you that) but if you don’t, not to worry. Debian-based distros can just run sudo apt-get install kflickr, while those relying on Yum and RPMs can use the repository of their choice to grab the necessary package and install it.

Well I think ClamAV would do this job.

You could install it via Add/Remove.

I dunno how exactly. Never used it. But I have know it can detect Windows viruses.

Linux only: Wine 1.0, the first stable release of the Windows API recreation tool, is available for most major Linux distributions. Wine has been focused solely on bug fixes for some time now, but as of their 1.0 release, there are hundreds of Windows apps, games, and utilities that run as "Platinum" (or flawless) in the Wine environment, many more considered "Gold" (only a few non-show-stopping problems), and myriad others in various states of improvement. Check to see how your must-keep-Windows-installed app runs at the Wine application database, then grab a package for your distro. Wine is a free download for Linux systems only.

Generalmente /etc/inputrc esiste già in molte distro, in alcuni casi è già configurato per la massima comodità, ma per la maggior parte c’è un bel po’ da migliorare. Ecco le righe che io ritengo indispensabili, potete fare copia/incolla nel vostro inputrc:

Debian is able to realize a favorites apps installation after sidux installation with

apt-get update && apt-get install $(favorites.txt)

It is so simple that anyone can personalize his favorites.txt and have his favorite distro quickly.
It is the reason that I appreciate a kde-lite CD.

It must have only the essential application to get connected to the net.

Personally I use a bluetooth dialup connection and I had problem when I reinstalled sidux with nyx cd.
I didn't be able to pair my phone. Maybe bluez doesn't have a pair utility. I used my usb cable to perform the first connection, install kdebluetooth and then I was able to pair my phone for a bluetooth connection.

favorites.txt can be a text file created by you based on your personal preferences.

This is the code to produce a similar file that include all packages you just installed.

dpkg -l|awk '/^ii/{ print $2 }'|grep -v -e ^lib -e -dev -e $(uname -r) >installed.txt

The point is that for a majority of people on the wrong side of the migrate to linux barrier, "all the drivers you need" are not already in the kernel. And what's more they will never be. The idea that the kernel and then the distro at large for regular software should be the single source of software that you install is just wrong. It is the very opposite of freedom. Sure it's a passable solution up to a point, but only up to a point.

A little over a week ago, reviews of Asus's Eee PC 701 started to trickle out onto the Internet. Some of the larger publications, like CNet and LAPTOP Magazine got their hands on the unit first, but as it has become more widely available sites like HotHardware and PC Perspective have now put out their own reviews of the Eee PC.

Thanks to its combination of Intel hardware and a non-bloated Linux install, reviewers found that Asus's little laptop performs just as well as much larger and more expensive Windows notebooks. And the company spent enough time tweaking the unit's default Linux distro that Windows users will supposedly feel right at home.

Puppy Linux 3.0 Now Available

PC only: Minuscule Linux distro Puppy Linux got a major upgrade this week to version 3.0, adding Slackware compatibility (which lets users install Slackware packages on Puppy). At a slim 97.6MB, Puppy's meant to be run from a bootable CD or USB drive and offers a full-on portable desktop operating system environment with the Mozilla Application Suite, AbiWord, Sodipodi, Gnumeric, and Gxine/xine built in, and the whole shebang runs from RAM. Puppy's a free download for PC's that can boot from USB stick or CD.
