The sun bounces up and down as it roams the Milky Way, and such wavering might have hurled showers of comets Earth's way that caused mass extinctions, including the one that killed the dinosaurs, a new study claims.

Such cosmic impacts might also have spread life to alien worlds, scientists speculate.

However, doubts have been raised about these suggestions.

To arrive at the comet showers idea, astronomers calculated the path of our solar system across the Milky Way as it circles the galactic core. As we pass through the densest part of the galactic disk, the gravitational pull of the surrounding gas and dust clouds dislodges comets in the Oort Cloud in the outer solar system, causing these icy goliaths to plunge toward the sun, the researchers said.

He said the world today is in danger of exceeding a CO2 "threshold" that could set off an environmental upheaval as great as the one 251 million years ago.

An estimated 95 percent of all marine species and up to 85 percent of land creatures perished, according to Peter Ward, a paleobiologist at the University of Washington in Seattle.

Scientists call it "The Great Dying." Life took millions of years to recover.

Scientific sleuths, however, now think they're making progress toward pinning down what caused the extinction of most plants and animals on Earth some 251 million years ago.

The perpetrator wasn't an asteroid or comet, like the impact that wiped out the dinosaurs 65 million years ago and inspired movies such as Deep Impact and Armageddon.

Instead, it was a cascade of events that began with a monstrous outpouring of hot, reeking lava in Siberia. Repeated floods of lava released massive amounts of carbon dioxide, which produced a runaway greenhouse effect, oxygen-starved oceans and a poisoned atmosphere.

In a recent response to a comment, I incorrectly stated that Barack Obama was not a member of any free mason faction. He is in fact a 32nd degree Prince Hall mason. Does this mean he resides in the pocket of the all powerful illuminati. I hope not

Barack Obama is the most promising presidential hopeful since Kennedy. He recieves most of his funding, not from the dinosaurs of the American market, but from millions of inspired individuals who sometimes send as little as five dollars.

And as for secret societys, according to the movie Zeitgeist (easily viewed on youtube in 13 parts) every major war since World War 1, as well as the great depression, have been orchestrated by a single secret society with a monetary agenda. Obama, on the other hand, has been against the war since the very beginning. Perhaps he din't get the memo.

An archaeological dig in central Germany has unearthed fossils which could be the oldest record of dinosaur life ever.

The dinosaur find, at a quarry near the town of Bernburg 90 miles south-west of Berlin, appears to date from 250 million years ago.

Scientists previously believed that dinosaurs evolved from smaller reptilians around 235 million years ago.

But the new find could radically redraw archaeologists' understanding of the dawn of the Triassic age, and the birth of the dinosaur era.

"This is a spectacular, unique achievement," said regional archaeology chief Harald Meller, announcing the discovery.

He said that the crucial remnants believed to be fossils of bone fragments - had been secured, but the German authorities called on amateur enthusiasts to stay away from the site, for fear of damaging potential further finds.

Other experts declared the dig of "sensational importance".

If confirmed, the find would add to a long list of landmark archaeological dinosaur

A tiny woman and two children were laid to rest on a bed of flowers 5,000 years ago in what is now the barren Sahara Desert.

Researchers discovered the slender arms of the youngsters still extended to the woman in a perpetual embrace.

The remarkable cemetery is providing clues to two civilisations who lived there, a thousand years apart, when the region was moist and green.

Despite Global Warming, racial tensions, war, famine and other real problem's we face, things are getting better for humanity as a whole and can continue to do so.

Dinosaurs were not seriously studied until just little over 100 years ago. Just 50 years ago, blacks and white were still segregated. Women still had very little in the way of rights in business, courts, and even their homes.

We have global communications on such a massive scale that anyone anywhere can practically talk to any one of 8 billion people.

The microchip, microbiology, space travel, flight, automobiles, home computers, satellites... all of these things (and more) have been available for a hundred years or less.

Should we be alarmed at the current massive die-offs being noted in the animal and plant kingdoms? After all, new species arise and old species die off all the time. Its just nature taking its course, right? Not necessarily.

The Earth is now entering the sixth mass extinction event in its four-billion-year history, but what’s different about this die-off is that this is the only such event precipitated by a biotic agent: humans.

The extinction numbers far outweigh the emergence of new species.

As mass extinction occurs, experts say that we end up dealing with serious consequences.
