Acting a day after Russia's Parliament unanimously supported the request of South Ossetia and Abkhazia to secede, President Dmitri A. Medvedev announced that he had signed decrees recognizing the two territories' independence, and some residents in both regions celebrated. He blamed the Georgian president, Mikheil Saakashvili, for causing the bloodshed and forcing Moscow's hand. A South Ossetian fired his weapon from a bullet-riddled car in Tskhinvali as celebrants drove through the streets with flags.

U.S. ship arrives in Georgian port of Batumi

TBILISI, Georgia (AP) — A U.S. military ship on Wednesday docked at the Georgian port of Batumi to bring humanitarian aid following a devastating war with Russia earlier this month.

The move comes after amid escalating tensions between Russia and Georgia's Western allies. The United States and European nations have assailed Russia's recognition of two Georgian territories as separate nations following the fighting.

"The decision of where to send aid was made at the highest level of the Pentagon and the only decision was to send it to Batumi," a U.S. Embassy spokesman said on condition of not being further identified.

Although Western nations have called the Russian military presence in Poti a clear violation of an European Union-brokered cease-fire, a top Russian general countered Tuesday that using warships to deliver aid was "devilish."

In politics, supporters traditionally get two "asks" from candidates: one for money, and one for a vote. That's it. That means most of the campaign work is done by a few paid staffers. Not a very participatory democracy.

The Obama campaign has brilliantly taken advantage of this by actually asking people for help. They're letting a large number of people do a small amount of work each.

So if you go to an Obama rally (or just sign up on his Web site), you might be asked to call three voters in a swing state. Or if they know you are a member of Digg (the popular site that lets users vote on articles of interest), Obama's people may ask you to Digg an article that is favorable to Obama or critical of his opponent. Or they might ask you to put a bumper sticker on your MySpace page.

In 2012, all major candidates will be leveraging their supporters more effectively. But for now, Obama's campaign has the technology advantage.

Snap is kind of like Digg on a map. People can tag certain places and then other users can vote that particular attraction up or down.

So if you’re in a new city, you can pull up your current location and find things around you that other people think are interesting.

If there’s a particular user that’s uploaded a bunch of cool stuff, you can subscribe to his or her stuff. Arrows on the map change color the more popular they get. Very cool.

A concerned citizen calling herself Jessica B has written a post on the comments section of the website Yahoo, saying "I live in georegia but i dont see rusia no where not even sound but they says theres tanks should i be worrie”.

“i herd on the news that rusia has invaded but i dont see them no where wats going on," she continued.

Her mind was presumably put at ease by a fellow contributor, who reassured her with the words "You are in the state of Georgia. The nation of Georgia is on the other side of the world".

It is unclear whether the original post stems from a genuine geographical error or whether it is a hoax, but it has become a viral internet phenomenon, with over 4000 people recommending it on the Digg.com website.

Kudla died Monday of an apparent heart attack at his northeast Minneapolis home. “Puke and Snot” have entertained hundreds of thousands of spectators at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival for 34 years with their feisty, vaudeville style street theater. He and Mark Sieve came up with the “Puke and Snot” shtick in the ’70s

I don't recall if I ever listed my favorite services in one post. The reason that I'm doing it now is because I feel something has changed from last year. The main change is my use of recommendation services such as: Digg, Stumbleupon and Reddit - services that I was so addicted to and somehow now are no longer my main interest.

It's not that I'm not using those services completely, but definitely not as much as I did before. Why? The answer is very simple: if I want to send a link (any link) I'll send it through Twitter or FriendFeed and most likely will get honest comments from people I actually familiar with. If I want to get updated with fresh content, all I need to do is to read my main stream on Twitter or Friendfeed. Another service that I hardly use anymore is Bloglines: I feel that I don't need to track content because the content is actually tracking me.

So what do I use on a daily-basis? Here's my list of favorites with some explanations, suggestions, and recommendations:
