"I think more of them will vote for Obama than McCain," said Jennings. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, deployed troops are putting their money where their mouth is: they've given four times as much money to Obama as McCain.

"Any assumption that the military vote is overwhelmingly in favor of the Republican Party -- based on demographics alone -- is suspect, at the very least," said Donald S. Inbody, a retired Navy Captain who is on the political science faculty at Texas State University.

This could result in a 1.2 to 1 advantage for Obama in military communities, according to Inbody, especially if the campaign "isn't tone deaf" to the inroads that are possible.

Clip Source: www.huffingtonpost.com

Younger Military Families Closing Ranks Around Obama

John McCain assumes he has the military vote -- but does he?

The Military Times recently released its annual survey of subscribers, which shows McCain-Palin enjoying a commanding lead over Obama-Biden (68/23 percent). But this is not a random sample, by any stretch of the imagination. Military Times subscribers are significantly older than the active military population. Oh, and he went back to school at 45 to get a degree in architecture, so I guess he won't be Joe Six-Pack soon. His income will put him into that Better Class of People y'all think you're part of.

Joe is a writer or an actor or an artist who waits tables, pumps gas, shelves books, does landscaping, delivers pizza, scrubs toilets, and otherwise works his or her ass off all day or night to pay the mortgage so they can continue to write or act or make art.

Clip Source: copperwise.livejournal.com

Sarah Palin et al like to call us "Joe Six-Pack," and they think we like it too. One needs to remember that the margins of error are much higher for subsamples of the data than for the poll as a whole. That's why I generally don't spend a lot of time focusing on the demographics in individual polls. If a poll is breaking out six or eight different demographic groups, and the margins of error on these subsamples are 6 or 8 or 10 or 12 points, then odds are that something is going to be out of alignment merely due to chance alone.

Tags: palin, women

<clipSource>http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/09/mommy-quotient.html</clipSource>

St Paul the past; Denver the future of political demographics

clipped by: masbury
clipper's remarks: RNC relies on shrinking demographic groups - growing whiter and older. Dem support comes from fastest growing demographic groups.

Clip Source: tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com

As I surveyed the crowd, I had an overriding thought: 'This place is really white.'

At Invesco, I was surrounded by blacks, Hispanics, Asian-Americans and whites; young and old; male and female; gays and straights

in St. Paul. The crowd consisted of middle-aged white men and middle-aged white women

Apparently my eyes don't lie. At the DNC, 34 percent of the delegates were black or Hispanic. At the RNC, 93% of delegates are white, 5% Hispanic and only 1.5% African-American - in fact, it is the lowest black delegate representation at a Republican convention in 40 years.

Obama is capturing

his support comes from the part of the population that is fastest growing

McCain's support comes largely from white voters and in particular older Americans

not to say that John McCain will necessarily lose

But having stood on the floor of both convention halls this past week, it seems quite clear that Denver represents the future of American politics - and St. Paul is the past.

Tags: politics, race

<clipSource>http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/09/03/the_unbearable_whiteness_of_th/</clipSource>

Breaking: McCain beats Obama by 500,000

clipped by: ratilfar
clipper's remarks: Congratulations John on your ratings success. Obama received 38.4 million.

That means McCain's speech is now the most-watched in convention history -- 41% higher than President Bush's acceptance speech four years ago, and 1% higher than Obama's address last week.

Looking at the speech's audience demographics, McCain drew significantly more male viewers than Obama (16.2 million). McCain also drew more white viewers (32.2 million), while Obama was seen by more African Americans.

Also, with interest in his running mate Sarah Palin spiking viewership for the RNC on Wednesday, the convention was able to gain some significant momentum after losing its first night to Hurricane Gustav coverage. McCain received 5% more viewers than his running mate.

Tags: john mccain, gop, ratings, obama, tv, viewers

<clipSource>http://www.thrfeed.com/2008/09/mccain-rating-1.html</clipSource>

In Women: Orgasmic Ability Connected To Walk

clipped by: hitchhiker08
clipper's remarks: Now, don't be 'swayed' by this bit of news! A new study found that trained sexologists could infer a woman's history of vaginal orgasm by observing the way she walks. The study is published in the September 2008 issue of The Journal of Sexual Medicine, the official journal of the International Society for Sexual Medicine and the International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health.

The results showed that the appropriately trained sexologists were able to correctly infer vaginal orgasm through watching the way the women walked over 80 percent of the time. Further analysis revealed that the sum of stride length and vertebral rotation was greater for the vaginally orgasmic women. "This could reflect the free, unblocked energetic flow from the legs through the pelvis to the spine," the authors note.

The study provides some support for assumptions of a link between muscle blocks and sexual function, according to the authors.

Tags: research, women, sex, orgasm, sexology

<clipSource>http://www.physorg.com/news139761580.html</clipSource>
