November 12, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports former boxer Mike Tyson was arrested after an airport scuffle.

Tyson was arrested after a scuffle with a photographer at the Los Angeles International Airport according to police. The incident occurred when the photographer attempted to take a picture of Tyson on Wednesday in the United Airlines terminal according to Sgt. Jim Holcomb.

In one reported version of the incident the photographer was said to have struck Tyson to get a reaction, and in another, the photographer stated that Tyson punched him in the face and tried to remove the film from the camera. Obviously, Los Angeles criminal defense attorneys want this case.

The Army’s Criminal Investigation Division is responsible for recommending charges, prompting the military equivalent of a grand jury, known as an Article 32 hearing, where both prosecutors and defense can present evidence.

Those results would be reviewed by the base commander, who would decide whether to convene a court-martial. The 12-person jury would be composed of officers higher in rank than Hasan " lieutenant colonels and above.

Lead Writer Ashby Jones
The Wall Street Journal's Law Blog

Before becoming a journalist, he worked as a litigator at a large law firm and clerked for a federal judge.

Clip Source: blogs.wsj.com

The future indeed looks grim for Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the accused Fort Hood gunman, who last week opened fire in a processing center on the base, killing 13. Hasan was injured by gunfire, but remains alive and under heavy guard at Fort Sam Houston. That means, of course, Hasan will presumably be prosecuted for his actions.

But what will the legal proceedings look like for Hasan? The Houston Chronicle attempts to answer the question in a story out Monday.

A key question concerning Hasan’s fate hinges on whether civilian prosecutors conclude he was part of a terrorist plot that might justify moving his case into the federal criminal courts under U.S. anti-terrorism laws. If prosecutors, on the other hand, determine that Hasan acted alone, he could face the death penalty in a military court-martial.

Tags: lone killer or part of terrorist plot, mass murderer, media political correctness, military tribunal or criminal court?, nidal hasan

<clipSource>http://blogs.wsj.com/law/2009/11/09/whats-likely-to-happen-to-maj-nidal-malik-hasan/</clipSource>

Remember military dogs on Veterans Day

clipped by: jkrabbit

Clip Source: www.examiner.com

Today, November 11, Veterans Day is a national holiday honoring veterans and the sacrifices they make in defense of the United States of America. WWI armistice was signed November 11, hence the date. He went to Afghanistan after 9/11, had Thanksgiving with the Taliban, and wrote a long piece for National Geographic about what a great time he had and how we’re all just human beings doing our thing on this big blue marble, so let’s not judge. Then he went to Iraq and singlehandedly created the Haditha Massacre hoax. Then he went to Jerusalem and spent a few years slandering Israel. Now he’s trafficking in pop psychology on behalf of a likely domestic jihadist. Agents from the bureau's Washington field office interviewed relatives, neighbors and friends who knew Hasan during his years in the Washington area. Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also are on hand to help with weapons analysis.

Investigators also focused on Guns Galore, a firearms store just down the highway from the mosque. Store owner David Cheadle said federal agents interviewed him about the sale of a FN Herstal Five-Seven pistol that was used in the shootings. I know that Israeli and some US so-called “active protection” systems use radar to detect the object coming towards it, but with Dave’s system, the detection is projectile agnostic since it detects the light of detonation (or launch?) and deploys at the speed of light (with fiber optics).

Tags: militaey, airbag

<clipSource>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBvcYckNOTA&feature=player_embedded</clipSource>
