My view is: not at all. Knowledge matters. Belief matters. Judgment matters. But experience in Washington is a minus for me.

Hopefully, now, this will put the experience debate to bed. Shame on Barbra Boxer for making the same argument against Palin that she dismisses against Obama!

Both tickets are a good mix of experience and freshness. If Democrats want to take on Palin, they should have enough wherewithal to criticize her political positions, just like Republicans should stop whining about manufactured personal issues with Obama and get to the meat of why they don't like him: the issues.

Clip Source: www.nytimes.com

Several of Mr. McCain’s outside advisers reacted with bewilderment to the selection of Ms. Palin, and one said that it would undercut one of Mr. McCain’s central criticisms of Senator Obama — that he is too inexperienced to be commander in chief.

Senator Barbara Boxer, a California Democrat, dismissed Ms. Palin’s appeal to female voters.

“The vice president is a heartbeat away from becoming President, so to choose someone with not one hour’s worth of experience on national issues is a dangerous choice,” she said in a statement.

“Governor Palin is a very bright leader who will bring a fresh perspective to a ticket that already has the experience and judgment necessary to lead our country from day one,” said Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Senate Republican leader.

Tags: palin, obama, mccain, experience, democrat, republican, idiots, democracy, talking points

<clipSource>http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/30/us/politics/29palin.html?pagewanted=2&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss</clipSource>

What a Hillary supporter saw at Invesco

clipped by: masbury
clipper's remarks: Someone ready to fight for what matters, not just inspire

Clip Source: sage

When Obama emphatically said "ENOUGH!" and began to demand that the
Republicans own their failures, I grew hopeful. When he talked about
watching his mother argue with insurance companies while she was in bed
dying of cancer, I felt his quiet, appropriate and protective rage. When he
looked straight into the camera and committed to fighting for equal pay for
equal work "because I want my daughters to have the exact same opportunities
as your sons," I believed him. And when he called John McCain out to have a
debate about who has "the temperament, and judgment, to serve as the next
Commander-in-Chief," I trusted him to be capable of holding his own in such
a debate. Through his demeanor, Barack Obama did what no other person,
including Bill or Hillary Clinton, could do for him: he proved he has what
it takes not just to inspire but to protect and defend all of our lives and

Her ridiculous "teach the controversy" stance is of course the back door ploy by religious fanatics to gain a toehold in public classrooms. I don't see them siding with Native American's to teach their particular creation myth.

Clip Source: scienceblogs.com

Intelligent Design and the Alaska Governor's Race

The volatile issue of teaching creation science in public schools popped up in the Alaska governor's race this week when Republican Sarah Palin said she thinks creationism should be taught alongside evolution in the state's public classrooms.

Palin was answering a question from the moderator near the conclusion of Wednesday night's televised debate on KAKM Channel 7 when she said, 'Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information. Healthy debate is so important, and it's so valuable in our schools.
"I'm not going to pretend I know how all this came to be," she said.

Tags: creationism, science, biology, religion, evolution

<clipSource>http://scienceblogs.com/afarensis/2006/10/27/intelligent_design_and_the_ala/</clipSource>

VP Debate

clipped by: pecksnif
clipper's remarks: I'm not sure the vice president debates have any impact whatever, but to the extent they do I can see a real trap here for Beau (where the hell did that come from?) After their initial discovery they were tightly held by a small circle of scholars. In the last 20 years access has improved significantly, and in 2001 they were published in their entirety. But debate over them seems only to grow.

Tags: scripture

<clipSource>http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/27/world/middleeast/27scrolls.html?_r=1&oref=slogin</clipSource>

Not All "Foreign Policy Experience" Is Created Equal

clipped by: izzy3r
clipper's remarks: Back in 2000, during a GOP debate, McCain was asked by Larry King, "What area of American international policy would you change immediately as president?"

McCain's reply? "I'd institute a policy that I call 'rogue state rollback.' I would arm, train, equip, both from without and from within, forces that would eventually overthrow the governments and install free and democratically-elected governments.... As long as Saddam Hussein is in power, I am convinced that he will pose a threat to our security."

In other words, he was a believer in democracy at the end of a loaded gun even before Bush was.

Clip Source: www.huffingtonpost.com

McCain vs Biden: Not All "Foreign Policy Experience" Is Created Equal

The past seven-plus years have shown us that "foreign policy experience," in and of itself, isn't all it's cracked up to be. For Exhibit A of this look no further than George Bush's most "experienced" foreign policy advisor: Dick Cheney. How's that working out? And Don Rumsfeld had spent lots of time on foreign policy practice field too.

What's great about the Biden pick isn't just that he has "foreign policy expertise," it's what kind of expertise he has, how he uses it, and how useful his expertise is for the unique challenges we currently face around the world. His approach favors diplomacy and engagement - backed up by a toughness that allowed him to confront Milosevic face-to-face.

Contrast that with the approach of John McCain, who also has "foreign policy experience": looking at his track record, McCain's experience has apparently taught him that pretty much every problem in the world has a military solution.

<clipSource>http://www.huffingtonpost.com/arianna-huffington/mccain-vs-biden-not-all-f_b_121194.html</clipSource>

test

clipped by: liapei

Clip Source: www.economist.com

They know what “fiduciary responsibility” is. For Members of Congress, fiduciary responsibility means reading each word of every bill before they vote.

But Congress has not met this duty for a long time. They have misrepresented them.

To this end we have created the “Read the Bills Act (RTBA).” RTBA requires that . . .

Tags: does, common, sense, have, a, chance, ?

<clipSource>http://www.downsizedc.org/etp/campaigns/27/iframe</clipSource>

Measles Are Back- Worldwide

clipped by: klippety
clipper's remarks: The debate will be inflamed again. But fears of autism have led some parents to forego this treatment and at least 63 of the sickened children were unvaccinated.

<clipSource>http://www.sciam.com/blog/60-second-science/post.cfm?id=measles-is-back-and-its-because-you-2008-08-22&sc=WR_20080826</clipSource>

Free Will ?

clipped by: klippety
clipper's remarks: Age old debate regarding free will, moral implications, evolution and far more.

Clip Source: www.sciam.com

Free Will versus the Programmed Brain

If our actions are determined by prior events, then do we have a choice about anything—or any responsibility for what we do?

Many scientists and philosophers are convinced that free will doesn’t exist at all. According to these skeptics, everything that happens is determined by what happened before—our actions are inevitable consequences of the events leading up to the action—and this fact makes it impossible for anyone to do anything that is truly free. This kind of anti-free will stance stretches back to 18th century philosophy, but the idea has recently been getting much more exposure through popular science books and magazine articles. Should we worry? If people come to believe that they don’t have free will, what will the consequences be for moral responsibility?

In a clever new study, psychologists Kathleen Vohs at the University of Minnesota and Jonathan Schooler at the University of California at Santa Barbara tested this question

<clipSource>http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=free-will-vs-programmed-brain&sc=WR_20080826</clipSource>

Tourist Debates Congressman on House Floor

clipped by: Andrew Gillies
clipper's remarks: How about this for having your voice heard in Washington? Once there, McGrorty
quickly grew frustrated at the drilling-centric Republican rhetoric and started asking McCotter why the Republicans don’t push hybrids instead as a transition to an economy less dependent on fossil fuels.

<clipSource>http://www.rollcall.com/issues/54_21/news/27570-1.html</clipSource>

"joe is right"

clipped by: mattimus
clipper's remarks: democratic candidates on biden

Clip Source: www.youtube.com

Joe is Right

Tags: joe biden, election, obama, 2008, mccain, debate, democrats, democrat, drmocratic

<clipSource>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbOa989IRYw&feature=related</clipSource>
