arrive in Africa, the Olinka have not yet personally experienced
the hardships and ravages of racism. Unlike American blacks, who
saw during the nineteenth century that their race was a stigma to
them, the Olinka see no reason to view their race as such a burden.
Therefore, the idealistic preaching of the African-American ministers
falls on deaf ears, and their notions that the native Africans would
automatically identify with them on the basis of race prove naïve.
Walker's point is that one's identity is much more complex and wide-reaching
than one's race. Though race may play a part in identity, considerations
of gender, class, culture, and nationality are just as important,
sometimes more so.

<clipSource>http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/purple/answers/studyanswer_3.html</clipSource>

Researchers regrow crucial inner ear cells

clipped by: pokkets
clipper's remarks: One of the most common causes of hearing loss, is constant exposure to loud noise, which can literally snap the hairs off the base. The more exposure, the more hairs snap off, and of course now we are beginning to see the effects of the 'ipod syndrome' where the volume is maxed out. Like standing next to speakers that are turned up to 11. (You might need to know about the band Spinal Tap)
There is no doubt that prevention is better than cure, but some people wont listen. Until they reach the point where they can't listen.

Clip Source: www.abc.net.au

US researchers have used gene therapy to regrow the tiny hairs in the inner ear of mice, which they say might lead to new ways of restoring hearing loss in humans.

Dr John Brigande and colleagues at Oregon Health and Science University report their findings in today's issue of Nature.

Sensory hair cells inside the cochlea, the auditory portion of the inner ear, convert sound waves into electrical impulses that are delivered to the brain.

The loss of these minute hairs, or the nerves that control them, is the most common cause of hearing impairment and so-called nerve deafness.

In most cases, damaged hair cells do not regrow in mature humans.

"Our work shows that it is possible to produce functional auditory hair cells in the mammalian cochlea.

it remains to be determined whether gene transfer into a deaf mouse will lead to the production of healthy cells that enable hearing

we have made an important step toward defining an approach that may lead to therapeutic intervention for hearing loss."

<clipSource>http://www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2008/08/28/2348815.htm?site=science&topic=latest</clipSource>

Cellular for the deaf

clipped by: balthazarus
clipper's remarks: Cell phones are an extension of our body, thus it is not a surprise...

Clip Source: uwnews.org

Signing by cell: Can you see me now?

A group at the UW has developed software that for the

The early disciples have recorded in the bible of people who where healed and raised from the dead. Therefore it is or at least was a ministry preformed by both Jesus and his early disciples.

The main focus of Jesus' ministry as well as the early disciples was the 'preaching of the kingdom of God' and not the ministry of healing. Healing came as a result of seeking Jesus or the kingdom of God.

Like this article states Jesus did warn of many false prophets who would arise preforming miracles in attempts to mislead and deceive.

It was interesting to read in this article that of all the people who were reportedly healed at this 'revival' Mr Bentley only produced a list of 15 people who could verify such healing. And yet thousands have attended the revival.

Personally I believe God can heal anyone if He chooses to but the bible says 'Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousne

Clip Source: www.onenewsnow.com

<STORYLEAD>LAKELAND, Fla. - Todd Bentley believes God acts through him to cure cancer, heal the deaf and raise the dead.</STORYLEAD>

So do hundreds of thousands of people who have visited his raucous revival meeting, now in its third month and broadcast nightly from a huge tent in the middle of Florida.

The 32-year-old Canadian, tattooed to the fingers and neck, puts a palm to the forehead of the sick, desperate and faithful. Bentley yells "Bam!" they collapse and he proclaims them cured. Attendees dance in the aisles, shout to Heaven, laugh, shake violently and cry.

"Some of the language used during the Lakeland Revival has created an almost sideshow atmosphere,

Christian critics say he rarely opens a Bible or sermonizes about Jesus Christ. They worry he is too little about conversion, too heavy on his own hype and too focused on self-proclaimed miracles.

"Miraculous manifestations are never the test of a true revival

Jesus warned that 'many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.'"

Tags: revival, todd bentley, lakeland, florida, charismatic, pentecostals, healing, miracles

<clipSource>http://www.onenewsnow.com/Business/Default.aspx?id=175300</clipSource>
