Cover and simmer for about 7 minutes, until leeks are tender but still firm.

Stir in cooked lentils.

Slice partly-cooked potatoes fairly thinly and arrange half in the base of a large oven-proof dish.

Spread lentil mixture over the top. Cover with sliced tomatoes, then the remaining sliced potatoes. Sprinkle with vegan cheese and bake at 350°F for about 30 minutes.

Serves: 6 or 8

Preparation time: 30 minutes.

Clip Source: vegweb.com

My Lentils Sprung a Leek

1 1/2 cups brown lentils
2 cups veggie broth
1 large onion, chopped
2 tablespoons Earth Balance margarine
1/2 lb. sliced mushrooms
1 carrot, sliced
1/4 teaspoon basil
1/4 teaspoon thyme
1/2 teaspoon sage
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 lb. leeks, cleaned and thickly sliced
3 large potatoes
4 Roma tomatoes, sliced

    shredded cheddar-style vegan cheez

Tags: main dishes, recipes, lentils, leeks, tomatoes, potatoes, vegan, vegetarian

<clipSource>http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=12027.0</clipSource>

Rice and Cabbage Casserole

clipped by: bunnicula

Clip Source: vegweb.com

Clip Source: vegweb.com

Rice and Cabbage Casserole

1 1/2cup short grain rice
1 small head of cabbage finely chopped
3 cups of water
1 8oz can tomatoes
4 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium onion
2 teaspoon Hungarian paprika
1 teaspoon ground rock salt
1/2 teaspoon ground pepper

    1 bay leaf

Heat oil in a large pan. Add onion and sautee until translusent, but not brown. Add cleaned and rinsed rice and sautee for about five minutes. Add all remaining ingredients and stir well in the following order: pepper, 1 tsp. paprika, water, cabbage, tomatoes, bay leaf, salt. Cook on stove top for about 5 minutes and transfer into a small rectangle glass pan. Sprinkle generously with remaining paprika. Bake for half an hour at 350C or until done.
2 cups flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon rumford baking powder

3/4 cup shortening

1 egg yolk

ice water

Sift together the flour, salt and baking powder; then cream the shortening in a bowl as for cake, As soon as it is light and creamy, add the sifted flour, mixing it in with a knife, not touching with the hands. Beat the yolk of egg, and add a little ice water to it just enough to moisten the pastry - probably 2 tablespoons. Use no more than needed to make a firm dough. Roll at once on a floured board, Bake in hot oven 475/o about 10 to 12 minutes.

Clip Source: www.geocities.com

Makes about 1 1/4 cups

Ingredients:
1 12-ounce jar plum preserves
2 tablespoons vinegar
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon minced onion
1 teaspoon minced ginger
1 teaspoon minced red chile or crushed red pepper
1 clove garlic, minced

Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring
constantly, then simmer a few minutes to blend flavors.
Let cool, then chill. Tastes best if refrigerated, covered, overnight
to allow seasonings to mellow. Will keep refrigerated for several
days.

*Use the plum sauce within a few days, as it
doesn't keep as well as the store-bought brands.

Newspaper

3 cups sawdust (available at a lumberyard)

2 cups wet wallpaper paste (mix with water according to package directions)

Acrylic paints

Paintbrush

Large bowl and spoon

Tube

Wire frame or foil

Step 1: Cover your work surface with newspaper. Have an adult help you mix the sawdust and wet wallpaper paste together in a large bowl, and stir until the mixture becomes doughlike. Take the sawdust mixture out of the bowl, and knead it with your hands.

Step 2: Use this thick clay to make textural sculptures with an adult's help. You can form your sculpture over a tube, a wire frame, or a small ball of foil.

Step 3: This clay is also great for making small bowls and vases. Once you've finished shaping your clay creation, paint it with a coat of wet wallpaper paste to set it. Let it air dry for about four days. When dry, paint it with acrylic paints.

Tags: arts, crafts

<clipSource>http://home.howstuffworks.com/clay-crafts2.htm</clipSource>

Making Sawdust Clay

clipped by: brazilnut72
clipper's remarks: A simple recipe for sawdust clay.

Clip Source: familycrafts.about.com

Measure 2 cups of fine sawdust into a medium sized bowl.

Add 1 cup of dry wallpaper paste.

Blend together well.

Slowly add water and stir until your mixture is a clay consistantly.

Once you have your clay made you can make shapes, designs, creatures - whatever you want!

Let your creations dry at least 24 hours.

Once they are dry, you can sand and paint them.

If your clay is too sticky, add a bit more sawdust and paste.

Tags: art

<clipSource>http://familycrafts.about.com/cs/claytyperecipes/ht/SawdustClay.htm</clipSource>
