Alaskan Independence Party: The Last Refuge of a Scoundrel

Palin, it could be argued, following her own logic, thinks so little of America's perfection that she continues to "pal around" with a man--her husband, actually--who only recently terminated his seven-year membership in the Alaskan Independence Party.

AIP's creation was inspired by the rabidly violent anti-Americanism of its founding father Joe Vogler, "I'm an Alaskan, not an American," reads a favorite Vogler quote on AIP's current website, "I've got no use for America or her damned institutions." According to Vogler AIP's central purpose was to drive Alaska's secession from the United States. Alaska, says current Chairwoman Lynette Clark, "should be an independent nation."

Palin's husband Todd remained an AIP party member from 1995 to 2002.

While retaining her Republican registration, she attended the AIP's 1994 convention

she also attended AIP's 2000 Convention

she recorded a video greeting for this year's 2008 convention

The belugas of Cook Inlet, Alaska, are in such trouble that they should be listed under the Endangered Species Act. And the time to act is now, before the comment period ends on October 20!

Troubles come to Cook Inlet in many forms. Cook Inlet oil drill tailings spew into the sea unregulated. Unmanaged gas and coal industries pollute Cook Inlet. Single-hulled oil tankers are no longer escorted by the Coast Guard. And municipal sewage is untreated; rain and storm run-offs are unchecked.

The Cook Inlet beluga population has declined dramatically from 1,300 in the late 70s to only around 300 today. ESA listing will mandate creation of a comprehensive management plan for these beluga whales and for the health of Cook Inlet. Add your comments to the petition letter today!

The money these greedy CEO's make should be used toward teachers. Granted - there needs to be metrics and performance criteria put on the teachers, but they def. do not get paid what they should.

When I recently saw an ad for a $125,000-a-year teaching job at a New York City charter school, my first thought was that it must be some sort of phishing scam. Everyone knows teachers don’t make $125,000. My second thought was, “Why shouldn’t we?” After visiting the school’s Web site and reading a New York Times article about the school, I realized it was not only legit, but potentially revolutionary in terms of education reform. So this school year, in addition to my regular special education teaching job, I’ve decided to get involved in the creation of this new school.

Populists Back Ron Paul’s Plan To Kill the Fed

The trillion-dollar Wall Street bailout plan negotiated by the White House and Congress has reinvigorated the debate about Texas Republican Rep. Ron Paul’s Federal Reserve Board Abolition Act (HR 2755), which was introduced into Congress in June 2007.

In the halls of Congress, legislators have yet to bring Paul’s bill to the floor. It is currently languishing in the House Committee on Financial Services.

Paul’s measure, as it is now, would kill the Federal Reserve Act and would then phase out the Federal Reserve one year after the bill becomes law.

The Federal Reserve Act, passed by Congress in 1913, laid the foundation for the creation of a privately owned and controlled central bank and gave private bankers the power to control the nation’s money supply.

There can be no end to these manufactured financial crises until the government gets rid of the Fed and replaces it with honest, debt-free money.

A "co-ordination centre" that directs a bacteria's defence systems to fight off external threats and stresses has been detailed for the first time by

British and Australian researchers

In the latest edition of Science, the team shows how the centre alerts the bacteria to danger and prompts it to create proteins to negate the threat.

Co-author Associate Professor Peter Lewis, in the School of Environmental and Life Sciences at University of Newcastle says their study has overturned previous theories of how bacteria responded to stress.

Instead of a single receptor system, the team found a network of sensors connected to a signalling hub, which they named a "stressosome".

The stressosome initiates a "global response" to the threat, which results in the creation of an army of new proteins to counterattack the threat or stress

The study, part funded Australian Research Council, may help researchers better understand the mechanisms at work in some of the world's oldest microorganisms

Cassette tapes are near extinction, considering CDs, DVDs, Blue Ray and other innovative disk coming along. And the following skeleton is one wacky creation for this statement. The creation belongs to Brian Dettmer, I guy famous for altering common media such as old books, maps, record albums, and cassette tapes and transforming them into works of art. The following skeleton is currently on display at the International Museum of Surgical Science.

Government spies could scan every call, text and email

Ministers are considering a £12 billion plan to monitor the e-mail, telephone and internet browsing records of every person in Britain.

The huge eavesdropping programme would involve the creation of a mammoth central computer database to store hundreds of billions of individual pieces of communications traffic.

Supporters say it would become one of the security services' most comprehensive tools in the fight against terrorism but critics described it as "sinister".

MI5 currently has to apply to the Home Secretary for warrants to intercept specific email and website traffic but, under the new plan, internet and mobile phone networks could be monitored live by GCHQ, the Government listening post.

The Home Office said no decision had been taken but security officials claim live monitoring is necessary to pick up terrorist plots.
