“I’m definitely encouraged,” Cason said after recording two interceptions during the workout. “I’m excited and happy about the way I’m playing. I’m having fun and learning a lot.”

Another part of him, the competitive side that helped make him the Jim Thorpe Award winner and a first-round draft pick, walked away a little disappointed.

“Antoine’s doing real well,” Turner said. “He has a knack for getting around the ball and he has excellent hands. We’ve got another guy in the secondary that can really go get the football.”

Cason is making a case to be the team’s primary nickel back, and moving inside has been his biggest challenge during his first NFL training camp.

Jewel marries rodeo star in Bahamas

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Pop singer Jewel eloped with her rodeo-star boyfriend in the Bahamas on Thursday, People magazine reported. The 34-year-old singer married Ty Murray, 38, during a private ceremony, the magazine said, quoting Jewel's publicist.

Jewel said on her Web site on Wednesday that she and Murray were heading to the Caribbean islands for six days with two friends.

The pair, who live on a ranch in Texas, had been together for more than a decade. Jewel, whose last name is Kilcher, achieved fame in the mid-1990s with such pop-folk tunes as "Who Will Save Your Soul" and "Foolish Games." She recently released a country album and served as a judge on the TV talent show "Nashville Star."

Murray is a legend on the rodeo circuit, winning the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association's All-Around world championship title a record seven times.

I like it when I'm right, especially about naked men. Especially about naked cowboys.

When I wrote in April that the lawsuit filed by Robert Burck "may be the end of the era of the "naked" cowboy and predicted he would be able to afford some "very nice duds," my fellow lawyers laughed at me.

One close friend -- let's call him Larry -- said as he snickered, "I read your article. You can't be serious. You really think that the Naked Cowboy is going to cash in? Well, I predict he is going to get thrown out of court. If he doesn't, maybe I will start walking around my office in my tighty whities."

Last week, U.S. District Court Judge Denny Chin didn't throw the cowboy from his steed. In fact, in a lengthy decision, Judge Chin ruled against the makers of M&Ms, rejecting Mars, Inc.'s attempt to dismiss the Cowboy's lawsuit. And it seems that Judge Chin has a sense of humor.

Here is a curb strap design I call the Cowboy curb strap. Many working cowboys use some variation of this as it is simple yet functional. It looks a lot like a grass knot curb strap, but the small piece of leather in the center allows it to be adjusted so the two tails are always the same length. These are available in both snaffle and bridle bit length, so please specify which you prefer.

Texas is just one of six states in which handguns can't be worn in plain view. The other 44 states, in the parlance of gun advocates, are known as "open-carry" states.

More than 3,500 people have signed an online petition asking Gov. Rick Perry and the Legislature to permit Texans to wear their handguns without concealing them.

"Cowboys and Indians, and the Alamo — and many just assumed that Texas was an open-carry state," wrote Gary Williams, who signed the petition. "Clearly, there are some changes that need to be made."

Don Imus says race comment was misunderstood

NEW YORK - Months after returning to the radio with a pledge to mend the wounds caused by his comments about a women's basketball team, Don Imus is once again defending on-air remarks regarding race. During an on-air conversation Monday about the arrests of suspended Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam Jones, Imus asked, "What color is he?"

Told by sports announcer Warner Wolf that Jones, who used to be nicknamed Pacman, is "African-American," Imus responded: "There you go. Now we know."

In the face of criticism that ensued, Imus said Monday that he had been misunderstood.

The on-air exchange came six months after Imus' return to work on a new show on WABC-AM following his firing from MSNBC and CBS Radio for making a sexist and racially charged comment about the Rutgers University women's basketball team. When he returned to work, Imus gave a lengthy on-air apology and pledged to use his new show to foster an open dialogue on race relations.

Brokeback Mountain set for opera

Brokeback Mountain, the story by Annie Proulx that became the basis for an Oscar-winning film, is to be made into an opera.

The New York City Opera has commissioned Charles Wuorinen to compose an opera based on the 1997 short story.

The opera is scheduled to premiere in spring 2013, the company said.

Brokeback Mountain is about two cowboys who start an affair when they meet on a mountain in 1963.

The GOP is now a dark, putrefied party of Bush, Cheney, Rove, Limbaugh and Coulter. And we're all the worse because of it.

The Radical Takeover

The most sweeping takeover of the new millennium didn't take place among the telecoms or the big oil companies, or in Silicon Valley. It took place in Washington, but we can see and hear and feel its effects nationwide on our televisions, radios, and computer screens. And America is much the worse because of it. I'm talking about the takeover of the Republican Party by its own lunatic fringe, and the Right's hijacking of America.

Yes, the Republican Party has always had its far-right cowboys, its Jesse Helmses and Spiro Agnews. Yet they were removed from the party's more sober core.

But these days, judging by the opinions and actions of the Republicans in office and the party's candidates for president, it has become impossible to tell where this core stops and the fanatical fringe begins. Just look at what the party is endorsing.
