STEFFIE WOOLHANDLER: Right. Well, the private insurers are getting millions of mandatory new customers. The taxpayers are going to give subsidies. It’s not going to make healthcare affordable, but it’s going to cost the taxpayers a lot of money to give these subsidies.

Private health insurance is a defective product. We know from our studies of bankruptcy that the majority of Americans who face medical bankruptcy start their illness with private health insurance but are bankrupted anyway by gaps in coverage, like co-payments, deductibles and uncovered services.

Clip Source: www.democracynow.org

Study: Over 2,200 US Veterans Died in 2008 Due to Lack of Health Insurance

Dr. Steffie Woolhandler,

DR. STEFFIE WOOLHANDLER: Well, we think that the Congress needs to start from scratch on this bill. The reform process in Washington has been hijacked by the private health insurance industry. If you look at the Baucus framework, which was the basis of the Senate bill—it’s on the Senate Finance Committee website. Just right-click on that document, and it turns out the author of the document was Elizabeth Fowler, who’s a former vice president of Wellpoint, the nation’s largest private insurance company, covering 35 million people. So the private insurance industry has hijacked the process. What’s come out of the House, what’s likely to come out of the Senate, is a completely inadequate bill that takes about $500 billion in taxpayer money and hands it over to the private health insurance industry.

But as a new report documents, much of the major U.S. media coverage of the Berlin Wall, and the subsequent downfall of Soviet communism, failed to accurately report the brutal nature of communism and often tipped in favor of the oppressors.

Yet our report shows many in the liberal media had a blind spot to this evil ideology,” said Rich Noyes, lead author of the report, “Better Off Red? I believe much of the opposition means well, deep down inside, and they would just as soon see all citizens provided with reasonable health care. For policymakers, as well as those who feel the need to understand, it is important to learn enough so as to balance a sense of empathy and caring with a knowledge that self-sufficiency and motivation are robbed and diminished every time we just submit to the government and let them say, "Come to papa." Of course, it's the intuitive part that lets one know that those are even factors important to investigate, I do believe.
My insight of the day is nothing more than a given basic regarding the concept of insurance. There seems to be a widely held delusion that health care costs are of certain values but that suddenly the buying of insurance coverage someho

Clip Source: worldnewspeakorder.blogspot.com

As someone crawling out of years of ignoring what goes on around me (or, I guess you could say, ignorance) I pretty much am forced to try to learn each new topic from the ground up. At least when it comes to technical matters. Now on the intuitive level, I think I even gain from a lack of certain preconceived perceptions. Things like body language, human behavior, and a fairly accurate B.S. detector. This health care thing is a multi-headed beast, on multiple layers and levels. (Not to mention the multi-headed beasts which are the personalities involved.) It is entangled with, and must involve, your sense of values toward your fellow man, and it requires thought surrounding fundamental American ideas. I think it is likely that much of the most strident resistance is rooted in a valid sense that those in power are not just seeking a progress that progresses the American way, but one that is Post-American Progressive as a brand.

<clipSource>http://worldnewspeakorder.blogspot.com/2009/11/insurance-model-and-honor-system.html</clipSource>

Lack of health care killed 2,266 US veterans last year: study

clipped by: nosebleedlouie

Clip Source: www.google.com

Lack of health care killed 2,266 US veterans last year: study

WASHINGTON — The number of US veterans who died in 2008 because they lacked health insurance was 14 times higher than the US military death toll in Afghanistan that year, according to a new study.

The analysis produced by two Harvard medical researchers estimates that 2,266 US military veterans under the age of 65 died in 2008 because they lacked health coverage and had reduced access to medical care.

That figure is more than 14 times higher than the 155 US troop deaths in Afghanistan in 2008, the study says.

Released as the United States commemorates fallen soldiers on Veterans Day, the study warns that even health care provided by the Veterans Health Administration (VA) leaves many veterans without coverage.

<clipSource>http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5iXSJa5eFMuXF2Uxwptns_JOxRcMA</clipSource>

Happy Veterans' Day

clipped by: Jorjor
clipper's remarks: And don't let the door hit you on your way out.

Don't they deserve better?

Clip Source: www.truthout.org

More than 2,200 veterans under the age of 65 died last year due to lack of health insurance, according to a study out of Harvard Medical School released today. (Newser)
                         –
Some 2,266 US veterans under 65 died last year because they didn't have health insurance, a team from Harvard Medical School estimates. Although most vets get medical care through the VA, there are about a million and a half, under 65, who were not wounded and are "too poor to afford private coverage but not poor enough to qualify for Medicaid or means-tested VA care," one professor says.

Being uninsured ups your odds of dying by 40%, the researchers note. Hence the result: "Six preventable deaths a day," says a study co-author. "On this Veterans Day we should not only honor the nearly 500 soldiers who have died this year in Iraq and Afghanistan, but also the more than 2,200 veterans who were killed by our broken health insurance system," the associate professor says, according to ThinkProgress.
Nancy Pelosi’s health care bill: buy a $15,000 policy or go to jail

The health care bill just passed by the House has a surprise for younger Americans who may want to avoid the expense of extensive health coverage, either buy the Democrat version of insurance or go to jail for 5 years.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi

A letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) obtained by the office of Republican House member Dave Camp confirmed that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land you behind bars.

The letter says that citizens don’t have “acceptable health insurance coverage” and who choose not to pay the individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), can be slapped with civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 five years in jail.

Tags: healthcare, politics

<clipSource>http://www.examiner.com/x-19663-LA-Legal-Examiner~y2009m11d8-Nancy-Pelosis-health-care-bill-buy-a-15000-policy-or-go-to-jail</clipSource>

ObamaCare endorsements: What the bribe was

clipped by: billpar
clipper's remarks: The AARP got a financial windfall in return for its support of the healthcare bill. Over the past decade, the AARP has morphed from an advocacy group to an insurance company (through its subsidiary company). It is one of the main suppliers of Medi-gap insurance, a high-cost, privately purchased coverage that picks up where Medicare leaves off. But President Bush-43 passed the Medicare Advantage program, which offered a subsidized, lower-cost alternative to Medi-gap. Under Medicare Advantage, the elderly get all the extra coverage they need plus coordinated, well-managed care, usually by the same physician. So more than 10 million seniors went with Medicare Advantage, cutting into AARP Medi-gap revenues.

Presto! Obama solved their problem. He eliminates subsidies for Medicare Advantage. The elderly will have to pay more for coverage under Medigap, but the AARP — which supposedly represents them — will make more money

Clip Source: thehill.com

ObamaCare endorsements: What the bribe was

As the suicidal Democratic congressmen proceed to rubber-stamp
the Obama healthcare reform despite the drubbing their party took in the ’09
elections, the president trotted out the endorsements of the AMA and the AARP
to stimulate support. But these — and the other endorsements — his package has
received are all bought and paid for. Here are the deals:

· The American Medical Association (AMA) was facing a 21
percent cut in physicians’ reimbursements under the current law. Obama promised
to kill the cut if they backed his bill. The cuts are the fruit of a law
requiring annual 5-6 percent reductions in doctor reimbursements for treating
Medicare patients. Bravely, each year Congress has rolled the cuts over,
suspending them but not repealing them. So each year, the accumulated cuts
threaten doctors. By now, they have risen to 21 percent. With this blackmail
leverage, Obama compelled the AMA to support his bill … or else!

Tags: healthcare, politics

<clipSource>http://thehill.com/blogs/pundits-blog/healthcare/66717-obamacare-endorsements-what-the-bribe-was</clipSource>

5 For £55 Driving Lessons In Watford

clipped by: sueab
clipper's remarks: Great news!
