I think it was CNN that reported last week how the Republicans were excited to showcase the oft-forgotten diversity of their party. Excuse me while I laugh uncontrollably.

Now of course, they don’t have to have a certain percentage of blacks, women, or people under the age of 60, but this is just one example of how the Republicans we’re trying to make themselves look hip to the rest of America.

The Republican National Convention was a play. Act One: Always Put Country First. Act Two: Only Republicans Put Country First. Act Three: Only Republicans Can Change the Unholy Mess the Republicans Created. Curtains close. I throw up.

They tried to assure us that John Maverick and Saracuda Palin were going to “shake up” Washington. As if they hadn’t been in control all along. As if they disagreed with the President 90% of the time. As if we’re idiots.

Places to shop and eat continue to expand

The latest trend in retail is not hot, new concepts. It’s cold, dark stores.

Shopping center owners and developers in Kansas City and across the country are grappling with rising vacancies as retail chains shutter underperforming stores and, in some cases, go out of business.

In recent months, big-name retailers such as Starbucks, Ann Taylor, Pier 1 Imports and Home Depot have announced plans to close hundreds of stores as battered consumers tighten purse strings.

WASHINGTON/NEW YORK (Reuters) - The U.S. government plans to put government sponsored mortgage finance companies Fannie Mae (FNM.N) and Freddie Mac (FRE.N) under federal control, the New York Times and Washington Post newspapers reported late Friday, in what could be the largest financial bailout in the nation's history. The two government sponsored enterprises (GSEs) own or guarantee almost half of the country's $12 trillion in outstanding home mortgage debt.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko carried on negotiations with Vice President of the United States Richard Cheney. A tête-à-tête meeting lasted more as it was scheduled. Enlarged negotiations of the Ukrainian-American sides also took place.

The sides positively estimated cooperation between Ukraine and the USA. Yulia Tymoshenko noted that during the visit of President of the United States to Kyiv in April this year George W. Bush could make sure that Ukraine is a democratic country.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine informed about positive results of democratic Government’s work which during 8 months had provided high economic growth rates.

The meeting also concerned discussion of regional security, retaining stability in Ukraine and in the region, diversification of energy carriers’ sources.

The US Vice President stated in his turn that his country supports European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine and emphasized the importance of retaining political stability in Ukraine.

As you and the audience, the viewers, and many Iraqis still remember, Mr. Biden, when he introduced the bill to the Congress last year to partition Iraq, now he came back on the ticket. So that was not a surprise for me, at least, because the surge has accomplished one of its objectives, that Iraq is ready to be partitioned, by expelling or displacing more than five million Iraqis within the country and outside of the country.

And most of those displaced people are Sunni, and they lived in the capital, the jewel of Mesopotamia, Baghdad, which is now a very depressed city, isolated by walls. Communities are segregated, and they have no way to move freely, unless they have their own badges from this community and another community. And the division is based on their background ethnically or religiously. It’s too bad for an Iraqi.

I wish yesterday Mr. McCain invited an average Iraqi family to attend and talk about the effect of the surge and the military operation

on Iraqi lives.

I am a Hilary supporter. No matter who wins this election I will go into the voting box thinking the best candidate and hope for saving this country has already lost. When Hilary first told America to vote for Barack Obama I was mad. In my heart, I don’t believe she thinks that his lack of inexperience and big words are right for this country either. False hope is the last thing anyone needs right now. However, I see that in her mind, and perhaps my own, any democrat is better than the chance of ending up with any other republican.
