Alinea uses Pure Cote mixed with fresh pineapple juice to make "pineapple sheets". The mixture is dried on acetate sheets at room temperature until pliable. The sheets are then separated from the acetate, cut into individual portions and shaped as desired. Finally, the pieces are dried to a crisp texture using a food dehydrator.

Virgo is perhaps the last sign without its own planetary ruler.
The mythology of the sign can give us clues as to where this ruler
might be. My favorite is the Persephone myth which sees her as being abducted
into Pluto's underworld where she is forced to be his wife for six months
months of the year. This upsets her mother who causes the Earth to be
cold and unyielding for the time that she is away from her.

Persephone is also known as Prosperine and Kore or Core which can mean
the center of the Earth or where our word "corn" comes from. Persephone is
an agricultural godess, as is her mother Demeter or Ceres, but she also has
the distinction of being the queen of the underworld. She is always pictured
as holding an ear of grain in her hand.

Virgo in her many guises as...

Bernanke and his global colleagues fight the worst financial
crisis since the 1930s, one danger is looming larger by the day:
deflation.

With asset markets tumbling, commodity prices plunging the
most in 50 years and banks keeping a tighter grip on credit, the
ingredients for a sustained period of falling prices are
coalescing.

The deflation scenario might go like this: Banks worldwide,
stung by $588 billion in writedowns related to toxic assets --
especially mortgage-related securities -- will further reduce the
flow of credit, strangling growth. That will push house prices
lower, forcing additional losses and making banks even more
reluctant to lend. As the credit crisis worsens, businesses will
find it almost impossible to raise prices.

Oil, copper and corn drove commodities
toward their biggest weekly decline since at least 1956 on Oct. 3,
with the Reuters/Jefferies CRB Index of 19 raw materials tumbling
10.4 percent. There were no steps and the main access to the monasteries was by means of a net that was hitched over a hook and hoisted up by rope and a hand cranked windlass to winch towers overhanging the chasm. Monks descended in the nets or on retractable wooden ladders up to 40m long to the fertile valleys below to grow grapes, corn and potatoes.

<clipSource>http://www.soothbrush.com/monasteries-meteora-greece-photos/</clipSource>

Poop Power!

clipped by: Antara

Clip Source: www.popularmechanics.com

Poop Power: U.S. Farms Save Big Turning Manure to Kilowatts

For farmers already operating on slim margins, the trick to staying afloat could be right under their feet.

ROCKWOOD, Penn. — If I'd driven up Kingwood Road here two years ago, there's a very good chance that I would have smelled Hillcrest Saylor Dairy Farm long before I reached its gravel driveway. But as I open my car door on Monday not 100 yards from the would-be offenders—approximately 600 Holsteins—the only odor that drifted my way was that of the freshly compacted corn silage that feeds the cows.
