A CodePink protester is knocked to the ground and later arrested when she did not move back fast enough after the Denver police made an arrest.

The police are breaking the law by not having any identification on their uniforms. Police have to be identifiable. Since the cops know it will be very difficult to identify them, they aren't afraid of being held accountable for their actions.

clipper's remarks: Did protest organizers misjudge the mood of the country? Or are modern-day protesters more content with protesting from the relative safety of their own computer using the internet instead of carrying signs?

Maybe too many of us can't afford to take time off from work. Or maybe we can't afford the gas to drive to or the airfair to get to Denver.

One thing is certain, Denver Police got to drag out their spiffy riot gear and get all excited about the prospect of busting some heads. I'll bet they feel pretty let down by the sad turnout.

Thanks for turning my city into a fortress with your overinflated turnout projections. I love to see cops with three-and-a-half foot nightsticks, riot helmets, and tear-gas launchers surrounding every building in sight. It’s fantastic.

Maybe it was too hot Sunday afternoon, or maybe they hadn’t gotten warmed up yet, but the tens of thousands of demonstrators that protest organizers promised would march through Denver turned out to be tens of hundreds.

Lt. Ron Saunier, a Denver Police Department spokesman, said the number of protesters that actually showed up was nowhere near what groups had told city officials to expect.

Recreate 68 had projected that 25,000 or even 50,000 people would participate in activities this week. Instead, a group estimated by police at 1,000 to 1,200 participated in an anti-war march Sunday morning, with a much smaller group parading up Colfax Avenue later in the day.

What a flippin' joke – Townsville school becomes cartwheel cops

FORGET smoking or bullying – at Belgian Gardens State School, doing a cartwheel on the playground can get you suspended.

The school has banned all forms of gymnastics during breaks, including handstands and somersaults – even the humble forward roll has been given the flick.

Education Queensland has declared 2008 the Year of Physical Activity – and their website suggests `handstands, somersaults and gym activities' as ideas for students to send in their tips for staying active.

"Decisions regarding local student safety issues are taken by individual school principals."

A spokesman for Education Queensland said the decision `to restrict students performing handstands, cartwheels and other gymnastic movements without supervision has been taken in the interests of student safety'.

1. It's good to see the Obama campaign conceding that Ayers is "a radical" who committed crimes, not just "a professor who lives in Barack's neighborhood."

2. Why is McCain talking about the sixties? He isn't. He's talking about Obama's relationship with Ayers over the past two decades or so, and Obama's comfort working closely with a man who built bombs to kill American soldiers and cops.

3. The crimes were committed when Obama was eight. Well, Eric Rudolph committed his crimes quite a few years back. Does he get cut some slack?

4. I am sure the McCain campaign thanks their rival for running an ad in Ohio that depicts Ayers, calls him a radical, mentions his crimes. This will make it a much bigger story.

The Politico reports that Obama is running an ad in Ohio that attempts to rebut recent criticism from McCain and outside groups about his relationship with William Ayers. Here's the section on the man who planted bombs in the U.S. Capitol, the Pentagon, and police stations, and said in 2001 that he felt he "didn't do enough."

Obama: I'm Barack Obama, and I approved this message.

Announcer: With all our problems, why is John McCain talking about the sixties? Trying to link Barack Obama to radical Bill Ayers. A one-legged hooker was killed in Brooklyn after a john hit her over the head, causing her to fall backwards out of her wheelchair and slam her skull against the wall, cops said yesterday.

Elizabeth Acevedo, 38, was found lying unconscious on the floor of a hallway on the 13th floor of a building in the Wyckoff Gardens houses in Boerum Hill on Thursday morning.

The handicapped hooker, who lived in the building, was taken to Long Island College Hospital, where she died yesterday morning after being removed from life support, police said.

Acevedo - who lost her leg in a train accident - had a rap sheet with 67 arrests for prostitution and drug charges.

She wore a prosthetic leg, but also used a wheelchair.

Investigators believe she had been servicing a client in the hallway who then hit her on the head with a heavy object. Police were still looking for a suspect

Two “modern day Ninjas” calling themselves Shinobi Warriors on a quest to rid the area of drug users and drug dealers have been put out of business by police.

Officer before dawn yesterday approached a car parked in the left lane of Route 46 east and found two Clifton men dressed in black claiming to be Ninjas.

The men were wearing tactical vests and armed with knives in sheaths at their waists along with Ninja throwing knives, Chinese throwing stars, four-pointed tacks, swords, bows and arrows and nunchucks, said Detective Capt. Robert Rowan.

Jesse Trojaniak, 19, and Tadieusz Tertkiewicz, 20, told police they were “modern day Ninjas” also called Shinobi Warriors on their way to deliver warning letters to known drug dealers and drug users to stop their “impure” activities.

The letters warned drug users and drug dealers that the “Shinobi will stop your cruel and sadistic intentions with justified yet, merciful force.”

City Ordinance Makes Pot ‘Lowest Law Enforcement Priority’

Police say pot smokers who light up during the Democratic National Convention can expected to get busted under state laws, even though a voter-approved city ordinance makes small amounts of marijuana the “lowest law enforcement priority.”

“We’ve always enforced the state statute,” police spokesman Sonny Jackson said. “That was the law before the initiative and it’s nothing new. I don’t know why we’d relax any law.”

Mason Tvert, leader of the group that sponsored the ordinance that discourages marijuana busts, said city officials are ignoring the will of the voters

“We’re concerned during the Democratic National Convention that they are going to use the law to cite people or detain them,” Tvert said

Tvert tried to pass an identical measure at the state level and 2006 but was rebuffed by statewide voters.

Armed 85-year-old woman makes intruder call cops

An 85-year-old woman boldly went for her gun and busted a would-be burglar inside her home, then forced him to call police while she kept him in her sights, police said. "I just walked right on past him to the bedroom and got my gun," Leda Smith said.

Smith heard someone break into her home Sunday afternoon and grabbed the .22-caliber revolver she had been keeping by her bed since a neighbor's home was burglarized a few weeks ago.

"I said 'What are you doing in my house?' He just kept saying he didn't do it," Smith said.

After the 17-year-old boy called 911, Smith kept holding the gun on him until state police arrived at her home in Springhill Township, about 45 miles south of Pittsburgh.

The boy will be charged with attempted burglary and related offenses in juvenile court, Trooper Christian Lieberum said. He was not identified because of his age.

NEW YORK (Aug. 19) - A man caught on video choking and robbing an 85-year-old woman in a building elevator is believed to be responsible for other assaults on elderly victims in the city, police said Tuesday.

New York City police are looking for a mugger who targets the elderly. The latest victim, 85-year-old Lillian France, was attacked Aug. 14 in an elevator in a Brooklyn building. The robbery was caught on security video. The man choked France until she was unconscious, then made off with $900 and her cane.

Authorities said the attack was one of a dozen since the end of June in Brooklyn. All but one of the victims were female and ranged in age from their mid-50s to their 80s, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Tuesday.

The thief made off with her cane and $900 that France had just withdrawn from the bank, police said. She was visiting a relative and might have been followed from the bank, police said.

France was hospitalized Tuesday with high blood pressure.

Mom Used Kid As Designated Driver

Cops: Texan had daughter, 12, chauffeur her on evening bar trip

AUGUST 15--Meet Jennifer Rosenberg. The Texas woman used her 12-year-old daughter as a designated driver so that she could be chauffeured to a Longview bar to celebrate her 35th birthday. Rosenberg was arrested Wednesday night after her child was pulled over by cops for a traffic violation (the girl told officers she had just dropped her mother off at a bar about two miles from their home). Longview Police Department officers responded to Leon's Bar and Grill, where they arrested Rosenberg on a child endangerment charge, according to a probable cause affidavit. She was booked into the Gregg County jail, where the below mug shot was taken. It is unclear whether Rosenberg planned on having her daughter ferry her back home after the evening's merrymaking.
