Make Milk Foam in Your Microwave for Gourmet Froth at Home

Wish you could get a good froth on your coffee but don't want to shell out for a frother? Cooking weblog The Kitchn details how to make your own gourmet froth at home with your microwave and a mason jar.

The Kitchn walks us through the process of heating and shaking your filled mason jar, to create maximum foam.

Find a jar with a lid and fill it with as much milk as you normally like in your coffee (or other hot beverage!). The milk should fill the jar no more than half way to allow room for the foam.

Shake the jar with the lid on as hard as you can until the milk has become frothy and doubled in size. This takes us about 30 seconds.

Take the lid off and microwave for another 30 seconds. The foam will rise to the top of the milk and the heat from the microwave will help stabilize it.

Pour the milk into your coffee using a spoon to hold back the foam. Then scoop the foam on top!

Come back every day until November 15th and check out a Bundt cake. I'm not crazy enough to bake and post on the same day so I've been working on this for a week and the library is like a Bundt den. I just hope I can finish...you'll give me lots of encouragement, right?!

I hope I can inspire you to bake a Bundt for your friends, family and even frienemies. Because the Bundt totally rocks. The Nordic Ware Bundt pan is American made and has limitless possibilities. I like Big Bundts and I cannot tell a lie. I'm going to get myself this or that t-shirt when I'm done!

I love Cakewrecks. I’m totally addicted. This week, they’ve highlighted a totally hideous Kwanzaa cake by Sandra Lee made with pre-made angel food cake, store-bought icing, and, obviously, corn nuts. Well, Sandra calls them “acorns” but the recipe calls for corn nuts. It also calls for popcorn and pumpkin seeds. It would appear the hate mail about this cake was so numerous that Food Network pulled the recipe, but with a little digging you can still find it floating around. In case you have always dreamed of a corn nut-cake hybrid, the recipe is at the bottom of the post.

Leftover Salmon Salad Recipe with Yogurt and Dill

Is it possible to take a piece of leftover grilled salmon, add some yogurt, celery, dill from your garden and a few seasonings, and create a salad you'll absolutely drool over? I'm happy to report it is, and I quickly devoured this salmon salad I created a few days ago. Faced with a piece of leftover salmon and temperatures in the 90's in Salt Lake, I checked Food Blog Search for salmon salad ideas and came up with a delicious full-meal salad. As I've said before, this type of creative cooking is one of my favorite ways to cook.
