Not only has John McCain been part of the Republican attack crew trying to dismantle Amtrak, John McCain has been the leader of this effort

While pouring on the public funds for highway construction, Trainwreck McCain insisted that Amtrak be privatized by having its assets torn apart and sold piecemeal.

With Amtrak ridership soaring, and interest in more interstate rail high, Trainwreck McCain is seriously out of step with the demands of the public.

SUE WENTZ and her husband, Eugene, saved for five years, living in a modest home in a low-income neighborhood of Houston, before they broke ground in January on a 4,300-square-foot house on 12 acres in Magnolia, Tex., a woodsy suburb about 40 miles northwest of the city. So it was with dismay that they arrived at the job site one morning in July to find that all the copper wiring and air-conditioning tubing had been ripped out of the rough frame of the house.

Israel has nearly doubled settlement construction activity in the occupied West Bank since 2007, a report by the rights group Peace Now says.

The report on settlement expansion coincided with the 18th visit by Condoleezza Rice, the US secretary of state, to the Middle East, on Tuesday.

Rice urged Israel to stop expanding settlements, deemed illegal under international law, arguing that they were not helpful to the peace process.

"The settlement activity is not conducive to creating an environment for negotiations," Rice said at a news conference with Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, in the West Bank city of Ramallah.

Earlier in Jerusalem, after talks with Tzipi Livni, the Israeli foreign minister, Rice referred to settlements, saying "anything that undermines confidence between the parties ought to be avoided".

A US-backed "road map" for peace calls on Israel to halt all settlement activity in the West Bank and for Palestinians to rein in armed groups.

Meanwhile, the Israeli group Peace Now has issued a new report on Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank. The group said construction had begun on more than 1,000 buildings in the West Bank since January, nearly double the number of building starts in the same period in 2007. More than half of the current construction was taking place in areas beyond the settlement blocs Israel has said it intends to keep in any peace agreement with the Palestinians.

The Kurdistan Regional Government has allocated 1,500 acres of land near Iran’s border for the construction of a large US-financed airport.

The airport is to be built in a town called Halabja situated about 11 kilometers from the Iranian border in the northern Iraqi province of Sulaimaniyah, our Press TV correspondent reported from Irbil on Monday.

This is while most political analysts and economists believe that the location is unsuitable, because a small town like Halabja does not need such a large airport, particularly one so close to the border.

“The airport is very large and Halabja is a small town. It doesn’t need to build a big airport like this in an area that is near the border,” Abdulkhaliq told Press TV.

RFID Provides Utility Company With Real-Time Visibility

A Canadian utility company tracks reels arriving and departing from its distribution center and storage yards, thereby reducing theft and out-of-stocks.

The utility company wanted the ability to track the reels, both in its distribution center and in open storage yards where reels are stacked—typically three high, in 300 by 400 meter (980 by 1,300 foot) outdoor spaces, before they are taken to the construction site. In the long term, the company intends to track the reels all the way to the construction site, using GPS technology on trucks (a feature already built into the MOBILEFusion platform). The current deployment, however, is focused simply on warehouse and yard management using RFID.

Although she wasn't attracted to the guy, Gerson flirted right back in the hopes that he would be her jungle tour guide. It worked. The busboy wormed his way out of work, and the two headed into the rain forest.

"It was amazing," Gerson says of her adventure in 2000. "We built our homes out of palm leaves, I saw animals I'd never seen before, he taught me the medicinal properties of all the plants, we picked fruit off the trees, we swam with and ate piranhas. And, of course, we had sex ... for almost two weeks."

China, a better place to live than the United States of America? Well, maybe if you don't mind pollution controls that don't exist. Maybe if you don't care that people are employed at slave-labor wages -- and maybe, if you don't care that construction standards in the countryside are so slipshod and shallow that they allow of collapse of thousands of buildings, including schools, so that when an earthquake hits it killing tens of thousands of people -- if that stuff just doesn't bother you, then I guess maybe China does look pretty good to you.

Isle of Man unearths a prehistoric tragedy

ARCHAEOLOGISTS may have unearthed evidence of a prehistoric tragedy at Isle of Man Airport.

They are working on a theory that fire could have razed a Bronze Age village to the ground in a cataclysmic conflagration in the area known as Ronaldsway.

ANCIENT BLAZE? The site of one of the Bronze Age houses which archaeologists believe may have burnt down in a catastrophic blaze some 3,000 years ago

Prehistoric remains including three human skeletons, discovered during earthworks for the airport runway extension project, made headlines around the world.

The excavations have been completed some two weeks ahead of schedule and the site, equivalent to about 20 football pitches, cleared ready for construction work to resume.

It was initially thought that pottery fragments, found under the route of a proposed taxiway extension in the north east of the airfield, dated back some 4,000 years to the late neolithic era.

The floating ecopolis

LONDON, England (CNN) -- The concept may be radical, but it might just have to be if the worst predictions of climate change are realized.

The Lilypad, a floating ecopolis for climatic refugees, is the creation of Belgian architect Vincent Callebaut.

"It is" he says, "a true amphibian, half aquatic and half terrestrial city, able to accommodate 50,000 inhabitants and inviting biodiversity".

Callebaut imagines his structure at 250 times the scale of a lilypad, with a skin made of polyester fibres coated in titanium dioxide which would react with ultraviolet light and absorb atmospheric pollution.

The Lilypad comprises of three marinas and three mountain regions with streets and structures strewn with foliage. "The goal is to create a harmonious coexistence of humans and nature," said Callebaut.

With a central fresh water lagoon acting as ballast, the whole construction would be carbon neutral utilizing solar, thermal, wind, hydraulic, tidal and osmotic energies.
