It involved sleep deprivation, the withholding of medical treatment, stress positions, long-time standing, and beating. Sound familiar?

According to the Bush administration's definition of torture, McCain was therefore not tortured.

Cheney denies that McCain was tortured; as does Bush. So do John Yoo and David Addington and George Tenet.

No war crimes were committed against McCain. And the techniques used
are, according to the president, tools to extract accurate information.
And so the false confessions that McCain was forced to make were,
according to the logic of the Bush administration, as accurate as the
"intelligence" we have procured from "interrogating" terror suspects.
Feel safer?

Now the kicker: in the Military Commissions Act, McCain acquiesced
to the use of these techniques against terror suspects by the CIA. And
so the tortured became the enabler of torture.

Tags: torture, war crimes

<clipSource>http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/08/was-mccain-tort.html</clipSource>

Does Bush Believe McCain Was Tortured?

clipped by: BartendingBear
clipper's remarks: What a bunch of ass-fucks BushCo is, John McSame included.

Clip Source: andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com

In all the discussion of John McCain's recently recovered memory of a religious epiphany in Vietnam, one thing has been missing. De Quincy in his Confessions of an Opium Eater devotes a section to “The Apparition of the Brocken."

“A Brocken spectre, also called Brocken bow or mountain spectre, is the apparently enormously magnified shadow of an observer, cast upon the upper surfaces of clouds opposite the sun.

The ‘spectre’ appears when the sun shines from behind a climber who is looking down from a ridge or peak into mist. The light projects the climber’s shadow forward through the mist, often in an odd triangular shape due to perspective. The apparent magnification of size of the shadow is an optical illusion that occurs when the observer judges his shadow on relatively nearby clouds to be at the same distance as faraway land objects seen through gaps in the clouds, or when there are no reference points at all by which to judge its size. The shadow also falls on water droplets of varying distances from the eye, confusing depth perception.

Tags: phenomena, science

<clipSource>http://thenonist.com/index.php/thenonist/permalink/the_spectre_of_brocken/</clipSource>

Confessions Of A Coupon Clipper

clipped by: debbyski

Clip Source: www.latimes.com

I love grocery coupons.

I love saving money and getting a deal that someone else isn't getting. There's nothing like standing in line at the store and hearing the groans from other shoppers when you pull out a big wad of paper, followed by the gasps when the checker knocks $20 or $50 off your tab.

And few things are more annoying than a cashier who grimaces and challenges each coupon as if it were coming out of her or his salary.
