Rehabbing Superman's Cleveland House

Work is getting underway at the Superman House.

The Kimberley Avenue home on Cleveland's east side is where Jerry Seigel grew up. Seigel and Joe Shuster created Superman while students at Glenville High School.

Residents Jefferson and Hattie Gray sought $50,000 to repair the roof and repaint the exterior but raised about twice that amount, with help from the Siegel and Shuster Society and novelist Brad Meltzer.

The renovation work is being coordinated by the Glenville Development Corporation.

Rob Woodbridge, Bleick & Kessler Construction Co. reports the home will get an extensive exterior make over, that will take about 6 weeks to complete.

Woodbridge explains he has rehabbed a lot of historic homes on Cleveland's east side, but none as famous as this one. He read Superman comic books as a child, and now his kids are doing the same.

Woodbridge says he is constantly being asked by people passing by if this is the famed Superman House.

Tina Fey reprised her role as Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin during a Saturday Night Live spoof of Thursday's debate.

Rapper and actress Queen Latifah played the role of moderator Gwen Ifill of PBS while cast member Jason Sudeikis spoofed Palin's Democratic opponent Sen. Joe Biden.

This is Fey's third skit parroting Palin's gaffes. SNL opened this season with a spoof of Palin and Sen. Hillary Clinton giving a press conference denouncing sexism in the media.

Several weeks later, Fey mocked Palin's highly ridiculed interview with CBS' Katie Couric.

In the latest episode of Fey's comic crusade against Gov. Palin, Fey spoofed the governor's stance on same-sex marriage, climate change as the "end of days," and being a "maverick."

"But don't think I don't tolerate gay people, because I do, I tolerate them with all my heart," Fey said. "And I know quite a few, too, not personally, but I know of them."

Here's the good news: Stephen Colbert is running for president in the Marvel Universe. And, according to Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada, the unhinged television superstar is gaining serious momentum.

Here's the bad news: He's not doing the same in the real world. Mark Waid, The Amazing Spider-Man writer who assimilated the faux newscaster/White House wannabe into issue No. 573 of the comic book, thinks we could use a Colbert presidency more than we could use a Palin vice presidency.

"Despite what a frightening number of red-staters seem to think," Waid said, "as impressive as it is, being able to field-dress a moose is not a superpower."

Truthiness, on the other hand, might be. Wired.com caught up with the two comics rascals, long before they had their morning coffee, to talk Colbert, Spidey, the 2008 election and why Quesada won't work blue. The Colbert issue of Amazing Spider-Man hits streets Oct. 15.

Is there some change in the way visitors are counted with Awstats? I’ve had a sudden, sharp drop in my “number of visits” stat for my Wordpress blog, after a very stable average for a long time.
