These photographs of albatross chicks were made just a few weeks ago on Midway Atoll, a tiny stretch of sand and coral near the middle of the North Pacific. The nesting babies are fed bellies-full of plastic by their parents, who soar out over the vast polluted ocean collecting what looks to them like food to bring back to their young. On this diet of human trash, every year tens of thousands of albatross chicks die on Midway from starvation, toxicity, and choking.

To document this phenomenon as faithfully as possible, not a single piece of plastic in any of these photographs was moved, placed, manipulated, arranged, or altered in any way. These images depict the actual stomach contents of baby birds in one of the world's most remote marine sanctuaries, more than 2000 miles from the nearest continent.

href="http://clipmarks.com/clipper/Fast+T+friend/">Fast T friend
clipper's remarks: Peers came up with the idea of weaving spider silk after learning about the French missionary Jacob Paul Camboué, who worked with spiders in Madagascar during the 1880s and 1890s. Camboué built a small, hand-driven machine to extract silk from up to 24 spiders at once, without harming them.

Clip Source: www.wired.com

To produce this unique golden cloth, 70 people spent four years collecting golden orb spiders from telephone poles in Madagascar, while another dozen workers carefully extracted about 80 feet of silk filament from each of the arachnids. The resulting 11-foot by 4-foot textile is the only large piece of cloth made from natural spider silk existing in the world today.

“Spider silk is very elastic, and it has a tensile strength that is incredibly strong compared to steel or Kevlar,” said textile expert Simon Peers, who co-led the project. “There’s scientific research going on all over the world right now trying to replicate the tensile properties of spider silk and apply it to all sorts of areas in medicine and industry, but no one up until now has succeeded in replicating 100 percent of the properties of natural spider silk.”

Tags: spiders, silk, golden, weaving, madagascar

<clipSource>http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2009/09/spider-silk/</clipSource>

Repaving Slave Street

clipped by: merrie
clipper's remarks: Demanding unquestioning submission, Obama has set about using liberal principles laid as a horsewhip to the back of freedom. Obama offers the false promise of free honey " beckoning Americans inside the gates of the plantation herding them into the field to work with the goal of collecting sweat to “redistribute” for the common good.

In an effort to retain power through, “leveling the social and economic playing field” Obama’s slave owner policy initiatives tether Americans to a ball and chain style of socialistic governance that is realized by enslaving those who would otherwise be free. The President’s utopian aspiration is on track to transform Americans into chattel trapped within a restrictive dependency, robbing us of God-given liberty, preventing the acquisition of property and thwarting individual pursuit of happiness.

Obama refuses to appreciate that the type of collectivist schema he campaigns for fosters a shadow of the slavery his wife’s ancestors struggled

Clip Source: jeannie-ology.com

Barack Obama recently said, “I am married to a black American who carries within her the blood of slaves and slave owners.” It was while on the campaign trail that Michelle Obama reconnected with relatives and became aware that on her father Fraser Robinson’s side her great-great-great grandparents toiled as slaves in mosquito infested rice fields in the low country of South Carolina

If not for the dichotomy of the overbearing plantation-owner attitude both she and Barack Obama demonstrate–Michelle Obama’s inspiring roots would otherwise be compelling.

Obama’s approach toward government indicates that he identifies with the slave owners not with the slaves who reside in Michelle’s family tree. Americans, as they’re known to do, have taken the ball and run with it. Below is a list of some of the most famous, classic symbols that represent the holiday known as Halloween.

Clip Source: www.dotellall.com

Bram Stoker's Dracula vs. Sparkling Tween Vampires : The Halloween Paradox

Witches:

extremely recognizable Halloween symbol is that of the witch, a practicioner of evil magic called ‘witchcraft.’ Witches come with several recognizable visual attributes, one being the ability to fly on a broomstick using their dark magic and wearing a pointy, black hat. While witches are portrayed as a ficticious symbol of evil, real witch hunts took place in Salem, Mass., in the late 1600’s. Women accused of practicing witchcraft were hunted and imprisoned, or even worse, killed. This is part of what led to the evil stigma surrounding the witch, which can be seen floating around neighborhoods in abundance on Halloween collecting candy, as it is a very popular and very easily-created costume.

Jack-O-Lantern:

Vampires:

Werewolves:

Tags: halloween, halloween costumes, witches, ghosts, vampires

<clipSource>http://www.dotellall.com/article/halloween-characters.html</clipSource>

APO Philatelic Society

clipped by: philippinetrivia
clipper's remarks: The first organizational meeting of the APO was held on June 11, 1950 with twelve members in attendance. Somehow, they lost their stash. A 2-gram packet was discovered missing this summer from a narcotics kit used in training. Two officers lost it in April, but they're unsure where. It could've been the police parking lot or an airport rental car, but the likely spot was a hotel.

Clip Source: scrapetv.com

Clip Source: news.yahoo.com

The veteran pair checked out the kit to train their police dogs, but the one who usually handles the drugs was called to a scene. By the time she returned, the dogs were energetic and destroying the room.

The officers said they were focusing more on straightening up the hotel room than collecting the drugs, so the bag probably got left.

individual with early Alzheimer's disease?
It's the activities involved in it, such as collecting old photos and
keepsakes. While patients often have
problems with short-term memory, they may be able to recall past
experiences. Scrapbooking for Alzheimer's
patients can lead to a conversation about people and events. For instance, one lady who lived to be 104
years old could be encouraged to talk about her experience with the Titanic. If these memories had been scrapbooked, how
interesting that would have been. For
the Alzheimer's patient, the point is the interaction between him or her and
those caring for them, whether family or professional or both.

effective in stimulating brains affected by this disease and other forms of
dementia.

Making scrapbooks draws them out of
themselves. Photos serve as prompts for
early memories and a chance to talk about the past."

Tags: scrapbooking for alzheimer's, scrapbooking, alzheimers, dementia

<clipSource>http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2299943/scrapbooking_for_alzheimers_patients.html?cat=5</clipSource>
