Hoarding can manifest itself in the excessive collection of household trash, newspapers, magazines, clothing, and even animals. In some instances, not only have reams of useless items been accumulated, but also an entire household may be brimming with items from floor to ceiling. All available living space, including every surface, countertops, chairs, sofas, bathtubs, sinks, coffee tables, desks, and beds, may become jam-packed with broken televisions, radios, boxes, containers, bottles, magazines, newspapers, bills, photos, expired coupons, food, and old clothes, leaving barely enough room to maneuver throughout the home.

The mental health community attributes hoarding behavior to a variety of both physical and psychological factors.

It may be considered a mechanism for coping; a symptom of depression, anxiety, or substance abuse; a result of cognitive impairment; an obsessive–compulsive disorder; or a number of other possible conditions.

Who wears the pants at Sky Harbor airport?

Not 30 Somali women who fought for the right to wear skirts on the job, and won.

The Muslim women balked at a planned policy change by their employer, GCA Services, (that's GCA's logo pictured above), that would have forced them to wear pants and a tucked-in shirt as they did their janitorial duties.

They'd been previously allowed to wear skirts; pants are too immodest for them.

Lisa Gopolan, a spokesperson for CAIR's Arizona office, says she wears blue jeans occasionally and that the decision to wear pants or not is a personal decision. The Somali women are expressing their culture as well as their religion in wanting to wear skirts, and she didn't think other Muslim women who work at the airport would necessarily demand different attire.

CLOTHING: tanned caribou hide in winter; moose hide in summer. Both men and women wore buffalo robes all year around. The robes were historical art, in the sense the warriors often painted images of their exploits on them; some were beaded and quilled. Quillwork was a beautiful art form developed by the Cree to decorate their clothing. Later beadwork replaced the quills. Men wore breechcloth tied on with a belt. Leggings were held on by a tie that looped over the belt. Women were animal hide dresses, usually made of only two pieces of hide laced together. Women's leggings went only to the knee and tied there. Winter moccasins were often made from moose with the hair on the inside to act as insulation. The moccasins were also a little larger so that grasses could be stuffed inside to act as a further heat retention source. Gilbert called the guard's actions "shocking."

"As an African-American and a lesbian, I haven't been through one day without facing some sort of discrimination," Gilbert said.

Her mother called police after Gilbert was kicked out, but another security guard escorted her to the front of the Social Security line before officers arrived, the Daily News reported.

According to a police report, a witness described Gilbert as "peaceful and quiet" before the guard told her to leave.

Woman forced from fed building for lesbian shirt

A woman wearing a T-shirt promoting lesbianism said she was forced the leave a federal building Monday by a security guard who didn't approve of her attire.

Lapriss Gilbert said she was picking up a Social Security card for her son when the guard was offended by her "lesbian.com" shirt and threatened her with arrest.

She was eventually allowed inside after her mother called police, according to a Los Angeles Daily News story.

The guard, whose name was not immediately available, works for Paragon Security, which contracts with the Department of Homeland Security.

Lori Haley, a spokeswoman within the Homeland Security Department, said the guard's actions were inappropriate and unacceptable.

Gilbert said the guard cited a document, the Rules and Regulations Governing Conduct on Federal Property, as proof he had jurisdiction over her clothing. The document does not address what type of clothing is allowed in federal buildings.
